Motivation, passion, mental skills, commitment, and sacrifice are all components that help an athlete become great. What motivation do you have to be great? Finding out what motivates you keeps you going. Derek Jeter, in my eyes, was one of the greatest baseball players to play the sport. The man is the definition of a leader and also led by example. Derek Jeter would soon replace Don Mattingly as the captain of the New York Yankees and after the Don Mattingly’s last game in the 1995 World Series Jeter would remember how it felt for Mattingly. “When you remember those feelings, you don’t want to have them again, Jeter stated as he referred to Don Mattingly’s final game. With Jeter down to his final two weeks of his baseball career, Jeter states …show more content…
For example, if an athlete suffered an injury a Sport Psychologist may use goal setting and imagery to help with the rehabilitation of the injury. Setting short term and long term goals for an injured athletes is beneficial for the athlete because it shows they are making progress by accomplishing these short term goals. By accomplishing goals it keeps the athlete motivated and increases there self-confidence. With imagery, being able to envision yourself making progress and being able to do exercises both help with the recovery of the injury. This is where mind-of-muscle helps with the process of the rehabilitation of the injury. Maintaining a positive mindset, positive outlooks, and positive emotions all are crucial to the recovery. SPC may help an athlete create and enter different zones to cope with pressured situations. For example, take a World Series as a situation; if you are up to bat with bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning, two outs, and your trailing by 1 point you want to be able to enter a zone that’s allows you to be in a relaxed state of mind. There is a lot pressure on you to perform but if you have been associated with a SPC then you would know what kind of techniques you can use to reduce the pressure. A SPC can also guide an athlete through their career. Athletes do not always see the bigger picture as they only see what is in front of them. As a SPC they will be able to show or talk about the future of their career and be able to walk them through it. For some athletes the future shows that they will no longer be able to play competitive sports due to injury, decreasing performance, etc. SPC will be there to help cope with the reality of this and for some athletes it is a hard transition. As an athlete I feel that it is important to know or know of a SPC as it will be beneficial
Black History Month is a very important one. My favorite person that we can celebrate this month is Hank Aaron. Hank is an incredible baseball player. He set glorious examples for all African Americans who wished to have an accomplished career in baseball. Hank Aaron is one of the best performers I know of.
Imagine being in the 1960s watching your 2 most favorite baseball teams play against each other in the world series. The score is 9-9, the game is tied, the bases are loaded and your favorite player is up to bat. You're sitting in the crowd on the edge of your seat wondering what is he gonna do. Will he hit a home run and win the world series, or will he strike out and disappoint His whole team? Baseball can be very complicated sometimes, but when you know more about a baseball team, famous player, and the equipment ,baseball won’t be complicated anymore .The New York Yankees were well-known in baseball during the 1960s, because of their popularity, the type of equipment they used, and their baseball players.
The Boston Red Sox was founded in 1901. The team was originally named the Boston Americans but later changed to the Boston Red Sox after Boston’s first professional baseball team the Boston Red Stockings, now known as the Atlanta Braves. The Red Sox first played Huntington Avenue Grounds but later moved to Fenway Park in 1912. Fenway Park remains the home of the Sox to this day.
Do you prefer a bases loaded double that clears the bases and involves an exciting play at home plate? Or a boring three-run homerun where the base runners trot around the bases, while the defense stands around with dazed looks on their faces? Do you prefer stolen bases, squeeze plays, and trying to move the base runners to make something happen; as opposed to a team waiting for someone to hit a homerun? If you answered “yes” then consider yourself a fan of “small ball.” The characteristic of a Designated Hitter is the major difference between Major League Baseball’s two leagues: The American League and the National League.
During the summer of 2012, Marcus Jeter, an African-American male, was arrested by New Jersey police officers, Orlando Trinidad and Sean Courter, due to the reason of “eluding police, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on an officers” (Goldstein). Some of the interaction was recorded on the dashboard camera, but not much of it could help prove Jeter’s innocence. Jeter consistently argued that the officers had used excessive violence during his arrest even though he was compliant and did not act out of turn. After listening to Jeter’s testimonial, the Bloomfield Police Department conducted an internal investigation, but reported no wrongdoing in the officer’s actions. Jeter’s case then proceeded and he contemplated accepting the plea deal
If you’re a fan of the Chicago White Sox’s or the St. Louis Cardinals you might want to put this paper down cause this is just going to probably piss you off. Today, I am going to enjoy every bit of explaining why The Chicago Cubs will win the World Series again for the 2017-2018 season for a historic repeat. Myself, and possibly the rest of the cubs fan base is still at utter shock just saying that our Cubbies (Chicago Cubs) the team that went 108 years without winning a world series finally snapped the infamous “Billy Goat Curse” and brought the great city of Chicago a world championship to the north side.
“Robinson faced death threats, vulgar insults, and hate-filled fans”(Jackie Robinson para 3). It’s because he was the first African-American baseball player in major league baseball and nobody liked him because of that. Jackie Robinson was a brave, hardworking men that accomplished a lot in his life for baseball and African-American community. Jackie Robinson had a positive influence on African Americans because he was the first African-American baseball player in major league baseball, he was a founder of ways to help African-American and he was a civil rights advocate for African-Americans.
Several years ago, I was talking to my late grandpa who had gone to see Hall of Famer, Ken Griffey Jr. give a speech to some young children. After his speech, a dad stood up and asked “Mr. Griffey, you and I have something in common. I have been playing baseball all my life just like you. We are about the same age and we even come from the same hometown. The only difference between us is that you are a celebrated All- Star ballplayer, and I-- despite decades of hard work-- have never been able to play past college ball. This breaks my heart. I have dedicated my whole life to baseball, but to no avail. My spirit has been completely diminished by all the rejection and disappointment. I was wondering if you have any advice for me, but please do not just dismiss my question and tell me to persevere. I have heard that too many times and
Pete Rose should be allowed eligibility to be inducted to the Hall of Fame. Pete Rose was one of the greatest players to ever step onto a baseball diamond. “During his career as a player. Jackie Robinson once said “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives”. True heroes, living among ordinary people, have paved the roads of today's world. One person who has exactly done this and not received nearly enough credit is Jackie Robinson. When people think of Jackie Robinson they think of the man who stole second base continuously, when in reality he did more, Jackie Robinson opened the gate for African American’s to play major league baseball. Born in 1919 Jackie was brought up in a society that was characterized by racial segregation and inequality, He fought through the era and made himself known all around the world for being the first African American to play major league baseball. Have you ever seen or noticed Mike Trout or Bryce Harper play.Well I have and it's incredible to watch them play. These two players were prospects since the age of 15. This is something Jon Paul Morosi said about the two, “Harper and Trout are fun to watch. They’re exciting players. The writers, the fans — everyone appreciates that. Those guys are going to be around for 15, 16 years. And it’s not just writers and fans. There are guys around the league watching them. I can see why they get the attention.” (Trout vs. Harper: Who ya got? 1) They were All Americans and the best players on there teams. So far in these players’ careers they have made a mark in the league and there greatness is still to come. They have also won many achievements and they have only been in the league for a couple seasons. Mike Trout is better than Bryce Harper because of his achievements, his career stats, and his mental games and attitude.
Hammerin’ Hank was one of the best baseball players that have played in the league. Not only do many of his records still stand, he was also a leader off the field. As a kid growing up in a small town with very little money working hard was the only thing he knew how to do. Hank Aaron is trying to help people reach their full potential through his actions, including how he helped black athletes play baseball, starting a charity for kids that would don’t grow up well, and breaking the glass ceiling for blacks in the corporate world.

He is famous for the youngest baseball player to ever join the MLB.
Derek Jeter is known as an influential player in the world of sports and on a generation of people growing up during that time. He played for the NY Yankees for 20 historic seasons known as the prime for their organization. His position for them was shortstop and never played anywhere else for the Yankees. The Yankees were only professional team he played for and one five championships for them. This was very rare for a player to spend 20 years with a team that drafted them because during that Era most players were only a part for 4 years at most. Derek is known by the Yankees as the captain of the Bronx’s and of their organization. The biggest wins of his career were during the 1990s and 2000s. They won most games during that time on his dependable hitting, clutch base running and terrific plays at shortstop. Deter turned out to be the Yankees all-time leader in the category for hits with 3,465. He also
