Describe Political Ideology

Liberalism is a major ideology in the world. Liberalism is changing at a constant rate as it is adapting to new views as the world is changing. Furthermore, the goal of the Liberalism is to ensure that “Liberal ideology is a commitment to the individual and the desire to construct a society… [Where] people can satisfy their interest and achieve fulfilment… Liberals [also] believe that human beings are, first and foremost, individuals” (Heywood 24). Liberals want to create a society in which people can achieve their goals, and where there are free to do what they please. That all individuals have the right to shape their future, and that each individual should have equal rights in both legal and political matters. There are two major types of

Liberalism started with the ideas of the Enlightenment. Two of these ideas were freedom of speech and freedom of the individual, and kept growing from there. Liberalism is the belief in a small central government and no monarchy. The liberalists defended the ideas of the definitive rights of an individual’s liberty, equality and property. According to Hahn, ideology is society’s belief structure. Ideology can be used in arguments and an example Hahn provided would be apples because of it’s complexity in regards to the variety and so on. One form of ideology is political ideology. Ideologies are referred as a set of ideas and values that provides a base for organised political action. They justify and influence the different theories of society and human nature. Ideologies have a big impact on policy making. Democratic and Republican parties differ on their ideologies and values, therefore, impacting policy formulation.

A population’s views on political issues may change as different circumstances occur each day. The environment around us has a powerful influence on the decisions that we produce and the views that we as American citizens choose to hold. After a semester in political science class my views and my political ideology have altered. Today I will explain how political science class has influenced my political ideology.

Political ideologies in the United States vary considerably, people often classify themselves as either adhering to positions along the political spectrum as liberals, progressive, moderate or conservative. In the world of politics we generally decide that the Democratic Party represents the liberal ideas, while the Republican Party commonly represents the conservatives. From the understanding of this course we define the term American conservative as a political philosophy that emphasizes prosperity, security and tradition above other values. Whereas liberals are also a political party that emphasizes individualism, equality and civil rights above other values. In simpler terms stress economic rights, whereas liberals emphasizes civil rights.

Liberalism is a collection of political, social and economic philosophies that is centered around the rights of personal liberties, civil rights, economic freedom, controlled and democratic government and the rule of law. A controlled and democratic government is instrumental to liberalism. A controlled government is one restricted by the law. The most common example of this can be found in the United States Constitution. The Constitution has outlined the roles and restrictions of each branch of government while also setting a system of checks and balances.

     Upon entering my first semester at Southern Nazarene University I could not have told you my political ideology. I knew what my opinions, observations, expectations, and ideals were, but did not know the proper ideology that would define them. Through several courses that I have taken, I have become more informed as to the role that I would like to see the government take throughout society as a whole and in the economy. On the bright side, ideology is a good thing because it is necessary for a government to run smoothly. The four things ideology provides are all healthy components of living in a civilization. A sense of identity brings people together and make it easier for them to align themselves with the mass, while a sense of history lets people know where they come from and where they are going. Having a moral structure creates a scale for people to measure what is right and wrong, while demanding action ensures that when things are not going properly, people will have the tools necessarily in order catalyse change. Ideology is politically beneficial, although it does sometimes translate into feeding the public lies. However, this lies are not aimed toward keeping people in the dark. They are used to gently ease the public into understand truths, rather than presenting the truth to them all at once. Ideology is beneficial to the government while simultaneously keeping the citizen’s best interest in mind. Ideology is not something that should be feared, but rather something that should be accepted and appreciated because it hold civilizations

The political ideology that best represents my views is liberalism. Liberalism is an ideology that emphasizes, “cultural diversity, government programs for the needy, public intervention in the economy, and individuals’ rights to a lifestyle based on their own social and moral positions” (Morone & Kersh, 2014, p. 37). First, liberal democracies are more open with the people. The philosophical traditions of a liberal democratic republic are democracies, liberalism, and republicanism. Democracies try to be equal with all, it stresses public rights, it reaches for what the majority wants, and it is very protective against authoritarianism. Political Philosophy is a wide branch of philosophy that focuses statements and arguments involving political opinion. It is all about state, politics itself, liberty, justice and the idea of authority. It tackles the meaning of government itself, why it is needed, what makes a government legitimate, the freedom of its underman, duties of both government and citizens and other political stuff.
