High Tide Sharks “Beep, beep!” is what we heard, followed by a long vibration. Then out of the blue, we saw a very bright light appear, followed by the loud sound, “The National Weather Association has issued a high tide waves in your area until 9:00 P.M. Eastern Time.” My cousin, Olivia, and I looked at each other knowing what we both were thinking. “Absolutely not!” Ben said, knowing what we both were thinking. “This could be dangerous, and I’m not going to be the one to go and save you when you both drown in that unkind ocean! Let’s just have a calm and relaxing vacation where no one will die!” he said, trying to persuade us not to go. “Oh come on Ben! Nothing will happen! Florida waves probably don’t even get that high in high tide wave events,” I replied. “Yes! That sounds fun. We should go,” my dad said, making the final decision. Ben didn’t look too happy and made an impolite face toward Olivia and me. “Ugh! Sis always gets her way! But, fine, I guess I’ll go. At least mom and I get to play in the sand!” Ben said. “Yay!” Olivia pitched in. “We’ll have so much fun, but I sort of want to finish my dinner first.” “This will be fun! I’ll get so many cute pictures for Facebook!” my mom replied, and we all laughed while we finished our dinner. All of this sounds so fun! Nothing could go wrong...right? Turtle Beach, an unpopular beach spot, but it’ll do. Not many people go there because it is a small beach, with hardly any room to walk if there's more than 100
The threatening wave is about to splash down and take over the boats
This was no “mayday” call since there was no immediate threat to life or limb. However, urgent distress must have been more than evident in my voice. Sea-Tow Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg answered my call within seconds. “Stand by. We’ll have a tow-boat with you in about 40 minutes” came the ever-so-calm voice over the radio. I felt a deep sense of relief that help was on the way, then near panic when I thought about everything that could go wrong in 40 minutes. By this time Guinevere was listing heavily to starboard. Either the water was getting shallower, or we were being pushed further onto the sandbank by the incoming tide. My attempts to back out against the current only served to stir the sandy bottom, obscuring what little visibility we had. Gavin quietly organized the crew to secure everything on deck and in the cabin below, which looked as if someone had picked it up and shaken it like a cocktail
“No, I think we should go home. We need to get home before our parents flip out! Now where in the amusement park are we again?" Asked Greg with a hint of fear in his voice.
"Hey dad. Yeah we're leaving now. Okay see you soon. Love you too, bye." She hung up. "Okay, they're leaving now, we should get
“Well of course, we are going out to eat,” I couldn’t bare to tell Grayson we won’t get to eat for that long so I wanted him to have a nice meal.
She looked up at one of the biggest waves and just sighed at the look of it. "Yeah, Dad, we practiced all right... At lower tides.". She picked up her board (Which seemed heavier from all the anxiety) and lunged into the stampeding ocean. She spat out some salty water that had entered her mouth and began to paddle deeper into the vast sea. Her eyes launched side-to-side as she'd learned to use great caution while doing this. She searched for a couple of minutes before seeing the perfect wave. She turned her board around and began to push her surfboard rapidly forward. The wave picked her board up and before she knew it, she was above it. Amber carefully got up and stood on the board as the tide slowly decreased in height. Her confidence was boosted, As though she felt like she was on top of the world! Amber felt the warm breeze of air brush through her face as she smiled with delight. However, this feeling will not last long. Soon after this happened, Amber placed her foot on the wrong spot and slipped into the iciness bellow her. Amber began to panic and she now bloodshot eyes was trying to look for a way back up.
“Alright, go ahead, but make sure to take your sister and don’t be late” she sighed as if I had worn her down but I could sense she was relieved.
“The storm is terrible!” my mom retorted. “If we go up there we could die. I am not risking that!”
“ No you are coming with us because it’s going to be fun and you will actually have people to play with other than making new friends. “
"We were notified about this," my mom started. "I was very nervous because it was out of state, but we found out we could go with you. As long as that was on the table, I was find with it. We can keep an eye on you." That's why they said yes.
“That’s not nice,” Sister said, looking up at Brother, “What if he doesn’t want to go?”
“I still don’t think this is a good idea, Caroline.” My father says in a grouchy disapproving tone. My mother rolls her eyes at him and smooths out her skirt before responding in her high pitched voice.
Annabelle, almost out of breath, said, “I think it’s going to take a pretty long time to get to the other side. I barely have any strength to swim all the way over there.”
“I wouldn’t get my hopes up,” Loren laughed, “Dad was trying to get us up to Ireland this summer.”
Meanwhile, an announcement exclaimed,” Please everyone get to a high point immediately. A tsunami is near the coast. I repeat, get to high shelter immediately.”
