I was 11 years old and I was on the Verde Valley Allstars and we were in the District playoffs hosting the tournament in Cottonwood, AZ. Our baseball field was located next to Dead Horse State Park and this is where we practiced and played our home games. If we win this District championship then we would go to the state playoffs in Yuma, AZ to play the best teams in each district around the state in a huge tournament. We are playing Prescott Valley as usual in the district championship. Verde Valley would always play Prescott Valley in the district championship game every year because our two teams were the best in the district every year.
A typical Friday night for Arizona baseball, we were under the lights in a night game. The aroma of

One out away from us receiving the banner that states District Champions. The player next up to bat gets a double down the first baseline. It should’ve been a single, but he speed made him stretch it into a double. Josh throws 4 straight balls to the next batter and causes my coach to give a mound visit. Coach Kelly jogs onto the field signaling to us to meet him and Josh at the mound. He tells us “We need to settle down, and play ball like we have been. Make sure to have fun while you beat these guys.” That was a stern pep talk and gave us the determination to end this game. Josh is now facing a new batter with runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Josh is in an all out war with this batter, throwing all of his junk balls and his fastball, but the batter would just foul them off saying he won’t go down without a fight. The count is now 3-2. Josh throws a fastball on the outside corner which the umpire calls it a ball and signals the batter to go to 1st base. The Verde Valley side was very upset with that call screaming right at the ump, “that was a strike, end the game.” The umpire throws out one of our parents because he was yelling at him obnoxiously. Coach Kelly had to walk out of the dugout to tell our parents to calm down and let us play ball. To remind you the bases are loaded in the top of the 7th with 2 outs. Walking from the on deck circle is the best hitter on their team, which is the cleanup hitter in the 4th spot in the lineup. I was staring at this kid
Imagine standing on a softball field expected to perform at the age of 5. Even though the butterflies in my stomach were starting a war, nothing was going to stop me from stepping on that field to play my first tee ball game as a Little Tiger. Fans cheered, but what I noticed most was a little boy in the outfield picking his nose. Standing in the box, I was terrified; the field looked huge. I had never seen anything like this before, but I knew that the little boy was the person I needed to hit the ball to, so I hit the ball as hard as I could. The ball went soaring through the air like a bird on fire. Dropping from the air, it rolled to the fence. At that time, I knew I had fallen in love with the game of softball. I was smiling from ear to ear, I couldn’t believe I had hit the ball that far! Both sides screamed, yelled, and shouted with excitement. Was all this commotion for me? I rounded first, but I couldn’t go to second because my teammate, Kylie Leach, didn’t run. I didn’t know what she was doing. Sadly, the batter after me hit a ground ball to the pitcher, and the other team threw him out at first.
“Take your base,” yelled the umpire as Kevin was hit with a pitch on his back. Kevin trotted at a snail's pace down to first base, his face was filled with agony as he grabbed his rib cage. As the game proceeded the pain from the pitch increased but Kevin thought it would eventually go away so he played through it. The game went on and it was close all the way till the end but the Stars pulled out the victory. They are now the 2016 South Carolina 2A High School baseball Champions. The team went crazy, the fans rushed onto the field to celebrate the victory with them. The team and the fans were bumping and brushing up against one another while they were screaming and hollering. Kevin was in the middle of the crowd with all his friends and
Every one was stretching and doing hitting practice. Unfortunantly I was not gonna pitch this game. The game finally started and in the first inning the pitcher was giving up so many runs. Eventually he got three outs and the score was 4-0. When we went up to bat we scored no runs unfourtanatly and the coach was kind of mad at us. When we went back on the field our pitcher gave up one more run and the coach decided to take the pitcher out and switch him out with the first base men. Also i was playing 3rd base throught the game. The new pitcher threw really hard and was striking everyone out, and because of that the inning went by really fast. When we went up to to hit this time we started scoring runs on the other team and when the pitcher finally got us out we had already done all the damage and the score was all tied up. The other team was scoring no more runs because of the dominate pitcher we had on the mound. However, for some reason we couldnt score no more runs against the other team, even when we had runners on base we couldnt do nothing, they
Have you ever wanted to be in Williamsport playing baseball? Well, I have I’ve been practicing since I could hold a baseball. Now all my training paid off. I finally made it. So did my friend Johnny. Johnny and I made it to Williamsport on different teams. It’s the Elimination game. Who ever loses goes home. It was a close game. Until the 9th inning the bases were loaded. Jimmy was on 1st, Timmy on second and Joey on 3rd. I’m up - 3-2 count. Johnny is pitching. He throws me a fastball right down the middle.Crack I crush it. Going… going… gone! A walk off grand slam. We win! After the game we go shake hands with the other team. I come to Johnny. I put out my hand and he doesn’t even make eye contact. He just walks away. The
Clouds mugged the sun of light as the day progressed. Dusk filled the air on the baseball diamond where I would leave my legacy. Forth, was the championship game to be played, and the pressure of the starting pitcher, was not fazing me. In the zone, we said the Little League pledge. Jolts of excitement filled my muscles as I recited the piece that I know all too well. Warming up, I was controlled, and was ready to bring it. The game began with a bang. Strikeout after strikeout I fired, giving my all every single pitch. ‘BOOM’ went the glove after every pitch, whizzed right by the petrified batter. However, this was not much different for our team. Just two hits filled the board, I and my teammate Ian Keth. Scoring off of this was efficient,
It was about 4:00, on game day against Courtland, when I told the team we should probably start our pregame warmups. This consisted of everything that a normal high school baseball team does before a game. We started off by taking a jog to the flagpole on the centerfield fence, which is also where we stretched . We followed that up with getting a light toss in just good enough to get our arms ready for a game. Courtland was then announced and right after that was my team, the Eastern View Cyclones. The national anthem was then played and directly after it ended the umpire called out, “Play
That morning I woke up on the second week of summer, ready for my championship baseball game against Portsmouth. Our U11 all star team sat in second place in the tournament going into the championship against the number one seed Portsmouth Eagles. The whole day leading to the game, all I could think about was the game, not even the amazing apple pie my mom made because my sister begged for it.
Brock hits a single right up the gut that gets our team on our feet instantly. Brett grounds out to the third basemen but advances Brock to second base. Now it's my turn as I await the sign from the third base coach who gives me a sign but has no meaning. Which means I get to do my thing and hopefully get on base or better yet hit Brock in to put up some runs before I go out and pitch. He throws the first two in the dirt not giving me a good look on either but puts me in a good position because he needs to throw a strike. Sure enough he wails another right in the inside corner where I drove it vigorously through the infield and skipped it to the centerfielder. Brock rounds third and heads for home and the relay the ball to the catcher not in time as Brock slides through the chalk foul line sending a cloud of dirt in the air. Even from first base I had to squint as the cloud shifted over but it didn't bother me one bit because the umpire hollered “Safe” which meant we were up
After school got done Emily went to the locker room and started getting ready for the game. Mikayla barged in the room and was telling her she better listen to Sami or their was going to be a problem. Emily was sick of this and threw a punch at Mikayla face. They started fighting, punching, and kicking each other until Kiki, Emily’s other friend, came in and broke it up. Mikayla then said, “We’ll bring this to the field.” Then the game started. Emily was terrified about what was going to happen next. As the game starts, Emily has the ball. She’s bringing it down the field almost to the goalie. She kicks and makes it! Score, Harrisburg 1, O’Gorman 0. Mikayla gives Emily a dirty look as she starts with the ball making her way down the field. She also gets close to the goal and kicks the ball right at Emily’s face! Emily gets hit and her lip started bleeding, many people are saying it’s on purpose. Emily got mad and pushed Mikayla down. They both then got ejected from the game. At the end of the game, that got tied, 1-1, the coaches were talking. They both decided it would be best if they picked up trash at the baseball stadium together so the two best players could start bounding but get punished for what they
In the bottom of the inning, with the chance to win, I would make the first plate appearance of the inning with hopes to start it off with a hit. Before our at-bats, Coach Sullivan talked to the team saying, “This is the moment you have all worked for. This is where all that extra work will finally pay off. This is a moment you will remember for the rest of your lives. Now GO GET ‘EM!” So I ran in the dugout, grabbed my helmet and bat, and began getting ready for my at-bat. As I was preparing Coach Sullivan came over and gathered up the next few batters, including myself, and said, “Right now! This is your time! Go do your best and good things will happen!” I was as prepared as ever when I finally stepped up to the plate to start the inning. As the pitch came towards me I swung the bat and felt a POP. I looked up to see the ball soar into the outfield and land as a base hit. The next batter was Ben Beis who, on the first pitch, watched a ball in the dirt which got past the catcher allowing me to advance to second base. Ben then did a sacrifice bunt moving me from second base to third
The first pitch came in. ¨Ball outside,’’ the umpire said as I stepped out of the box to take a breather. The second pitch came in as a Strike as I tried to get a hack at it but it broke across the plate. I stepped out of the box to regain my composure. Bases loaded 1 out. The third pitch came in and was a fastball that was traveling across the plate at 72 miles per hour, but I got my bat on it at the right time and the ball was in the outfield in a matter of seconds. The ball rolled passed the outfielder as I ran the bases as fast as I could. The outfielder struggled to get the ball in and threw to the cutoff man. By the time he got it in I was already at third for a straight up triple to score three runs to tie it up . “ Timeout,” I called as I took off my helmet and got ready to pitch.Jose took my place to pinch run for me as I needed to start warming up to pitch.
All the emotions started sinking in as we started to cry with joy. After all the crying, we went to say “good game” for sportsmanship and returned to the mound to complete a bet. We bet Coach Cadena that if we went undefeated for the whole season, the team got to dogpile on him. And we did. All of us returned to the dugout with all of our families and the baseball team congratulating us. Seeing my fathers’ face with a huge smile made me feel so great he got to see me play with four single hits and no outs. I made a contribution to the game that I was awarded second region team. During the end of the awards ceremony, when we hold the championship plaque, all of us had the biggest smiles on our faces and returned home with
Our season was coming to a close, and we were all excited for our final game of the season; that is, until we found out that the coaches and parents of the opposing
I thought they thoroughly perceived me only in light of the fact that our bats were ablaze. We worked our way up to score three keeps running in that inning and we led the pack. Unfortunately, they got an opportunity to bat. I was still in the diversion and I had tossed around one hundred and thirty pitches which is a considerable measure for a pitcher. Traditionally mentors take out their pitchers when they hit the one hundred pitch stamp. I was now ready to ambulate out of the hole and onto the field when Coach halted me.
As I am sitting in the stands looking around at the parents near me, it is apparent that various ones are more serious and competitive then others. Some parents just wear the colors of their child’s team, and others have shirts that actually say the team name. Although they all are quite different, they have one thing in common. They are willing to suffer the heat filled air to support their children in their activities. Walking onto the field, the umpire comes announces with his deep, gruff voice that it is time to start the game, triggering all of the parents to rush onto the bleachers. Listening to the sounds of bodies hitting the bleachers, they boys rush out of
