The stench of moose carcass permeated the fragile, morning air. The wolf leader, now awake from a revitalizing night’s sleep, trundled along the mossy rocks scattered along the creek. Piercing the dawn with a howl, the pack of 10 brothers languishly opened their eyes, drunk from a feast the night before. After catching up to their leader, the growing reek became a target for all of them; their ravenous appetite urging for an insatiate breakfast. Slowly following the trace, they uncovered the moose remainings, only to find a grizzly bear tearing off pieces of what could’ve been a filling breakfast. Infuriated, the pack sprinted towards the bear and howled, slashing their dagger-like paws across the bear. Outnumbered by the tenacious dogs, the grizzly’s eyes met the flapping tail of the salmon and promptly stumbled away. Paws tired from the …show more content…
Lounging on the benches facing the playground, I quietly zipped out a book to read, as I didn’t procure an appetite; the droopy smile and forlorn cheeks disfigured from the lack of adherence towards HBA. As my eyes traversed around the quaint elementary school campus, I crossed gazes with another boy: the boy who surrounded himself with friends and acquaintances playing football or conquering the monstrous, or so it seems, jungle gym in a manner of minutes. With a smirk smeared across his face, he shielded his mouth while whispering towards his group, laughing and listening at the same time. Unable to ignore such chagrin, I attempted to dive into the novel once again only to find the abnormal bell signal the end to lunch. After
The Koyukon Indians must know how to find the bear’s den. The den entrances are hidden beneath 18 inches of powdery snow and are given away to subtle clues that the koyukon are familiar with. One of the clues are patches where no grass protrudes because the bear as clawed it away for insulation and “faint cavities in the ground hinting of the footprint depressions in the moss below ”. After capturing the bear they must kill it in accordance to Koyukon customs and tradition. These rules and customs are set in place for the purpose of not disrupting the bear’s spirit and to show respect for the animal and the environment.
In the article Saving America’s Wolves, by Kristin Lewis, the author uses second person point of view and this choice has an affect on the reader. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a wolf? Today, wolves around the country face many dangers today. Throughout history and folklore, wolves have been depicted as being dangerous predators that come after humans, but that is far from the truth. In fact, humans today are more of a danger to them as they are to us!
California's last solitary wolf was reportedly killed in 1924 in Lassen County. Once a widely distributed species throughout the Pacific Northwest, the settlement of European Americans brought the eradication of the Gray wolf from California.
During the 1940’s, wolves were exterminated from Colorado and few have come back since. As a result the ecosystem that we have in Colorado is somewhat skewed due to the absence of them. Many people think that wolves are a nuisance and would get in the way of the agricultural style that colorado has. However, wolves are considered a keystone species which means their “presence would reinvigorate the natural order” (clifford). For this reason wolves should be reintroduced into montezuma county. The reintroduction would greatly benefit and restore the balance of our ecosystem.
In his movie Dances With Wolves actor Kevin Costner tries to do away with any preconceived notions that the viewer might have had about the Native American Indians being a savage and inhuman race. He does this by first unraveling the mysteriousness of the Indians then he brings the viewer to a point of connectedness with the Indians and their culture. We then come to a sincere appreciation for them as human beings and individuals and find ourselves siding with them in matters of allegiance. This movie accomplishes this goal with several tactics and strategies. As the story unfolds we follow the life of John Dunbar (Kevin Costner) and take on his emotions and therefore come to the same realizations that he does.
On Thursday October 19, 2017, at approximately 9:45 am, I visited the Wind Wolves Preserve to conduct my observations. The sun was shinning and the weather was beautiful hitting the high 70’s while I was out. It’s important to note that the Wind Wolves Preserve has many of the terrestrial ecosystems. This is one of the many interesting things that I discovered about this special place. I find it interesting that the preserve transitions from one terrestrial ecosystem lower in elevation and as you go higher in elevation you can enter into different types of terrestrial ecosystems. For example, the pamphlet informed me “The rolling grasslands rise from the valley floor and transition into the classic California oak and valley oak savanna with

Are Dire wolves mythical creatures? Dire Wolves existed many years ago and they were real, not just in the game of thrones. They were bigger than our everyday wolves. You can say they that they were different from our modern day wolves in many aspects, such as that they had a stronger bite and were more muscular. They no longer exist anymore due to extinction, a lot of there fossils were found in Canada and California. This is the main reason that we became to know of their existence. You may be wondering why they went extinct or why you have never heard of them.
Farmers don’t want wolves in their property because they are having fear about protection of their livestock. Their stance is understandable but their revenge on against gray wolves is too harsh. According to PBS, During a fifteen year period, because of natural cause like bad weather, killed 20000 to 100000 of livestock and only less than 5000 of livestocks killed because of wolves. But more than 1000 of wolves were killed for their revenge. This harsh attitude towards wolves is leading to killing all of the gray wolves like starting anti-wolf campaign. However, wolves are useful for the eco system. Even the gray wolves have important role to balancing the eco system, many people (in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho) do not want wolves and don’t see their importance. Most of time, the Federal government usually feels the duty to decide what is right with total widespread opposition. But the state government try to listen the people’s wishes. For this reason, Federal government and State government has difficulty to work together. But in my opinion, When different levels of government have different audiences and different priorities, it has a strong point of them to collaborate. The conflict between the different levels of government will make to come up with a better and best solution. In this case, without the Federal government , many species would already be extinct.
I look back at my oatmeal, and then I start putting the brown deliciousness on top. When Fredrick joins the table, we dig in, we all eat in silence until we're all finished. Once I'm finished, I begin to to speak. "Hey Zach, last night during our talk. You mentioned something to me about Nora's wolf gift, but what is a wolf gift?" I ask.
Which text portrays the wolf in a good way? In my opinion the text, The Real Story of Little Red portrays the wolf in a more positive way than the story Little Red Riding Hood. In the text The Real story of Little Red Riding Hood it discusses about how the wolf is gentle and lonely. “He had gentle eyes and looked very lonely.”
If the entire species is taken off the endangered species list, the Gray Wolf will still be targeted by human predators. The controversy of Gray Wolves being dangerous to the human community is an opinion that needs to be recognised.
Why are there many different versions of a story? Well, there are various versions of the “Little Red Riding Hood”, and each version portrays the antagonist in an entirely different way. Charles Perrault wrote “Little Red Riding Hood” and in his story, the antagonist was a Wolf. Mary Hemingway retold the story in her version of “The Old Woman and The Tiger” but instead of a Wolf, Mrs.Hemingway had a Tiger as the antagonist. The Tiger and Wolf had different personalities. Although they are the antagonists of their stories, however, by the end of the story the Wolf does not change his personality but the Tiger learns more about humans.
