Although similar upon first glance, Florida and Hawaii are also very different. How would you choose where to live? Trask says that the areas of Hawaii which were “sacred” to the Hawaiian’s have now been turned into top of the line hotels. The beaches that were once full of fishermen and their nets are used for recreational activities like surfing getting a tan and jet skiing. Hawaii’s stereotype is having beautiful white sand beaches, palm trees, and clear blue skies. In Waikiki, these meet the standards. During the weekend night life, there are many entertainments along the strip which catches attentions left to right. What also catches the attention is homeless sitting with a sign asking for money. Tourists want to see these stereotypes and go home to tell their friends and families what Hawaii is about. If they encounter crazy, drunk homeless people on the streets, their perspective on our stereotype changes a lot.

What do you think when you hear a word Aloha? When I had no knowledge of Hawaii, or Hawaiian values, I thought it only means hello and welcome. I’ve learned so much about Hawaii and its values including Aloha and now I know it doesn't only mean that. Aloha can mean “love. Aloha can mean “farewell”. After I got into Kapiolani Community College, I had chance to get to know Hawaiian values and each time I’m amazed how each word have deep and thoughtful meanings. And Aloha is the basis of most of the other Hawaiian spirits. Therefore, without knowing Aloha, it’s close to impossible to understand Hawaiian cultural values and that’s why I wanted to introduce little about Aloha before I jump into the introduction of my three favorite values. In the book, Aloha is mentioned as “outpouring and receiving of the spirit” (Say, 17). Though my understanding of the word Aloha and other Hawaiian values grew from the last few semesters in KCC, I still learned a lot from reading this book and that definition of Aloha is one of the teaching from this book. This book often related the Hawaiian values to the supervisor / managing positions in the hospitality industry and how he defined managers in hospitality industry in Hawaii made me interested to read this book; he defined as “Ambassadors of the Aloha spirit” (Say, 7). The Hawaiian’s greet their visitors with leis, which are wreaths of flowers held together(Banko 88-110).Hawaii’s mild climate and magnificent scenery is why it is one of the most visited places in the World. Maui has been very well known for its tourism. Many honeymooners pick Maui, Hawaii as their place of choice. When in Hawaii, visitors can take a trip to see where the Hawaiians grow pineapples and coffee beans to make coffee. Living on the Hawaiian island of Oahu offers its own beauty like no other island in the chain. No Hawaiian island is the same; each one has something different to offer, equally they all have beaches and hikes. Laniakea beach and Pupukea Beach Park represent two of the best beaches on the North shore for snorkeling, scuba diving and merely playing in the water. Two good hiking trails that are both located on the southeastern side of the island, Makapu’u Point and Maunawili Falls Trail. The island of Oahu is a beautiful and interesting place thanks to its diverse beaches and spectacular hiking trails.
