Religious traditions and beliefs sets form the core of knowledge and attitudes of a religion towards sometimes controversial topics; two of the often overlooked subjects in today's society are death and destiny. Each person’s interpretations of their own religion’s set beliefs can largely impact their own live and the way they see these topics. Reform Judaism, Orthodox Judaism and Catholicism have varied beliefs when it comes to their traditional teachings of death and destiny.
Catholicism is one of the many braches of Christianity. The foundational text for the Catholicism is the Bible, which Catholics believe is the inspired, error-free, and revealed word of God. However the Encyclical, Catechism and Magisterium are also teachings that guide Catholics look to for answers regarding death and destiny. One of the core beliefs of the catholic religion is that baptism, the rite of becoming a Catholic, is necessary for salvation. They also believe in the existence of the Holy Trinity. This is one God in three persons. Catholics embrace the belief that God, the one Supreme Being, is made up of three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Basic Beliefs of Catholicism, 2016). They also use Gods Ten Commandments as a moral compass or ethical standard to live by. The main

Catholics believe that at death the soul is separated from the body and is judged immediately, and enters either heaven (immediately or through purgatory) or hell (Summaries of catholic teaching, 2014). They also believe that every soul will unite with its resurrected body just prior to the Last Judgment ("Judgment Day") when Christ returns. Jewish sources are full of references to the fate that awaits us after we die. "But you, go on to the end; you shall rest, and arise to your destiny at the end of the days." (Daniel
First, the religious concept views death as the commencement of a new life (Campione, 2004). Next, the
Catholicism is a monotheistic religion believing that God is the Creator of all that is. We must love and serve God in our daily life, through prayer and good works, in order to achieve salvation. The element of central myths plays a large role within the Catholic faith, as the Bible is the core of Catholic
Life and Death within Catholicism and Hinduism - AS 90823 - McKenzie Henare Why are we here? Why have we been set upon this Earth? Where do we go after we die? I think we’ve all had thought, theories and ideas about where we’d like to go and what the afterlife is like. But religion can give us these answers but depending on which religion a person follows these answers can differ.
Many different religions around the world see the importance in life after death but these beliefs do vary a lot and each religion will believe completely different things. Two core religions in this essay that will be looked into are Islamic and Catholic. What do they believe will happen when someone dies? Is there another life after they die? Heaven? Hell? Or Paradise? Through this you will the importance in the belief of life after death, and the practices, rituals, and prayers that provide evidence and physical proof of how they show this belief. Then to go onto to discuss the wider implications holding onto these beliefs can have.
224). These symbolic solutions may also create a sense of mortality for the individual by contributing to a culture that will continue after their death, i.e., they are immortal (Popham, Kennison & Bradley, 2011, 752). Research shows that putting faith in religion makes individuals less vulnerable to mortality salience and death-thoughts (Wojtkowiak, Rutjens, 2011). Therefore, the solution of immortality creates a resolution for death-thoughts but in turn is a coping mechanism to avoid thoughts of our mortality as well.
The universe we live on today is considered, in most religions, as the creation of a God or Gods. However, according to Buddhism, it does not raise questions about the existence of God. This differs with the philosophy of Abrahamic religions, which includes Christianity. Christianity always refers to God’s existence even with the mystery of its afterlife. Christianity’s biblical teachings are taught by God’s messengers like Jesus, which reassures the details of its mystery of afterlife. Therefore, the Christian perspective of mystery of afterlife personally resonates the best. Not only because of its reference of God’s existence, but also how they respect human dignity after death. Christian’s respect to human dignity is very similar to how my religion (Islam) treats the dead body, in terms that both religions burying the dead. Overall, Christian perspective of the afterlife and the respect towards human dignity, best resonates with me, since it is very close to my
As for Judaism, there is no forever between good souls and evil souls which in other religion such as Christianity and Islam. Judaism believe that the devil can be in heaven. As for Judaism they believe that death is not the end of human life. However, they are more focus on life now then think about the afterlife. They can believe whatever they want to believe but the souls of the good people who have die will go to similar heaven or to some they will be that reincarnated, or some will wait until the coming of the “messiah” , where they will be able to relive. Unlike other Judaism Jews they believe that the evil souls will be torture by demons of their own thoughts, or that evil souls will die and not to live ever again.
At the time of death, one’s spirit will separate from their body and either ascend to heaven or be bound to Hell according to their deeds performed on Earth. That’s because it is believed that humans have the ability (free will) to choose between good and evil. Muslims and Christians believe that angels exist as well as Satan and his evil spirits who follow him: the enemies of humanity. Also, it is said by Muslims, that on the day Jesus returns, the Last Day, the dead will be resurrected and both the dead and alive will be judged. They will either be rewarded by going to heaven, or punished by going to hell. Likewise, Christians believe that on the last day, referred to as judgment day, God will bring forth his judgement upon all those: dead or alive. He will reward or punish them by sending them to either heaven or Hell.
Coming from an Eastern Orthodox Church, I had very little knowledge of Catholicism. I decided to take Basics of Catholic Faith course in order to have an understanding of the Catholic Church and their teachings. In today’s world, there are many religions that teach different aspects of God. Catholic teachings offer a lot of moral and spiritual guidance that other Churches narrows down. Catholic Church says “Jesus is good news, and Catholic faith means graciously accepting that good news and sharing it with others.” This base idea of Catholicism is what people might get, that they can’t get from anywhere else.
Religions are said to hold answers for all of the important questions posed to the human race. One question that appears, not only in today’s time, but as far back as the dawn of man, is the curious question of ‘what happens after death?’ Some religions state that the soul can ascend to a heavenly body and eternal paradise, or descend to a fiery pit and eternal damnation. Some say
The chief teachings of the Catholic church are: God's objective existence; God's interest in individual human beings, who can enter into relations with God (through prayer); the Trinity; the divinity of Christ; the immortality of the soul of each human being, each one being accountable at death for his or her actions in life, with the award of heaven or hell; the resurrection of the dead; the historicity of the Gospels; and the divine commission of the church. In addition the Roman Catholic Church stresses that since the members, living and dead, share in each other's merits, the Virgin Mary and other saints and the dead in purgatory are never forgotten (Craig, What Chrsitians Believe 32).
The concept of life after death has been around practically as long as life itself. Our beliefs about life after death can have a profound effect on our attitudes toward life. Most individual's beliefs about life after death are directly related to their cultural or religious affiliations. According to Montagu, "Of all the many forms which natural religion has assumed none probably has exerted so deep and far reaching an influence on human life as the belief in immortality" (1955, p.15).
Most religions do not believe life after death. Most of them believe in incarnation. But as a Christian, I believe they is heaven and hell. If you are living right with God, your soul goes back to heaven but if not, you go hell. As the bible says in Revelation 20:10 “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet [are], and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever” (King James Bible, 2016, p.6).
Eschatology is defined as a branch of theology that outlines the final events of the world and of mankind. It is also the study of the ultimate purpose of the world and God’s intentions. In Christianity, eschatology is often viewed as a forbidden subject in the study of theology. On the other hand, some regard eschatology as the most influential part of their religious life because they it determines the way in which they live their lives. These people live by a set of rules and ethics set by the Bible because they want to have the favorable experience after death that was outlined in the Christian Eschatology.
Catholics are a Christian sect and believe in one God. Like other Christians, they believe that Jesus is God's Son which goes hand-in-hand with the belief in the Holy Trinity. God the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit
