"There are those who say fate is something beyond our authorization. That destiny is not our own, but I know better. Our fate lives within us, you only have to be brave enough to see it." - Merida. Fate and destiny are known to be things that happen to us without us being able to choose or being able to stop it. These things are something that is foreordained for us before we are even born. I believe that we are allowed to choose your own fate and what happens to us. Some people believe that our destiny is chosen for us and that we can't change it; this is not true and we can choose our own fate and or destiny. Destiny is something that we choose for ourselves. In the book "Into the Wild" he chose his own fate; it may not have ended in the way he had wanted it to, but he did what he wanted to do. The world's biggest myth is that at some point we lose the option to control our fate. This is not true, because we are always in control and can choose anything that we want. Some people may be in a hostile relationship that they want to get out of. This was not something that was chosen for them, but the way they handle the situation is what decides their fate. If they …show more content…
There is a saying that says "You don't find love it finds you. It's got a little bit to do with destiny, fate, and what's written in the stars." In the story Sports Gene it is talking about a young man named Thomas who was a basketball player and got into the art of high jumping because of a dare. Ishikawa noted both Thomas's long legs related to his height and also that he was gifted with a giant's Achilles tendon. However Holm's Achilles was a more normal-sized, incredibly stiff spring, Thomas's, at ten and a quarter inches, was uncharacteristically long for an athlete his height. The longer (and stiffer) the Achilles tendon, the more expandable energy it can store when compressed. All the better to rocket the owner into the
Destiny the hidden power believed to control what will happen in the future. In some lives people allow fate to control their outcome in life. Seeking our wyrd can make us change it, if it's not the result we intended. In various cases fate dictates our lives.
In conclusion, fate does control ones’ life. In Homers book of the Odyssey it shows clearly that fate draws limits around free will, because Odysseus went through so many battles the
Fate has sundry meanings. One of the meanings of fate: power that predetermines events. Destiny’s definition suggests that events will occur and do not change. Whatever unravels in life cannot change by mankind. The statement has undivulged meanings; fate has the opportunity to change if the person wants events to end differently. However, wrong decisions will only seal fate. In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, The fate becomes confirmed through Lady Macbeth wanting more power, Macbeth’s inner conflict, and the three witches tricking Macbeth and leading him to his demise.
However, I do not believe in fate. I believe it goes against scripture. I believe God gave us free will. For example, when Adam and Eve were in the garden and they had the choice to eat from every tree except one but they chose to eat from the forbidden tree anyway. God has the power to make us follow him and do right but that is not what He wants. He wants us to choose Him because we want to in our hearts. Our actions will determine our ending. I believe that everyone’s fate will be either heaven or hell. Our conduct here on earth is what dictates us getting into heaven. God is the only one to judge and decide that for us. I do not think that wyrd is a ubiquitous principle that people live by today. I think we can see from our actions that we reap what we sew. I believe that the majority of people would agree that you can manipulate your fate exactly or close to how you want
I don’t think destiny has nothing to do with anyone’s life because people live their own lives and do what they want to do. I picked Invictus and Into the wild the authors names are William Henley and Jon Krakauer.
One of the greatest debates in human history is fate vs free will and does fate even exist. It is a question that has been asked for centuries across many different cultures (Dennin 2016). Fate still has a impact on people today. The modern day argument isn't about being a force for good or evil like in Beowulf's culture, it is whether or not fate even exists. Everyone claims to know the answer but no one truly does. In the anglo saxon culture fate was the common belief. Not as many people now believe in fate as they did in Beowulf’s times but “52 percent of Americans say that they do believe in fate while only 29 percent do not believe in fate” (Moore, 2015). This means that fate is not as big of a deal nowadays then it was back then. Fates meaning and importance has changed but it still affects people's views and beliefs today.
Fate determines each person’s will that believe it is meant to happen. In the book, In the
Fate is the belief that something is destined to happen by a more godly figure and free will is the belief that it is not suppose to happen but
Although several aspects of life are predetermined, there are moments people have control over their fate. For example, no one has control over death, and even though many refuse their undeniable fate, it cannot be avoided. However, there are choices we make that mold our future, thus, changing our fate. On various occasions, there will be a fork in one’s path, and that person will have to choose which journey to take. In life, there are small, ineffective decisions you have to resolve, but there are also larger, life altering choices. Of course, others may feel the same way about fate, or entirely different. In fact, since the beginning of time, authors of literature have discussed their ideas on such matters, a few examples being Dr. Seuss, Charles Dickens, and Edgar Allen Poe. These authors, famous for their thought provoking literary work, provide differing opinions on the fate and destiny of a human being through the use of allegory.
The novel Into the Wild is a nonfiction novel published by Jon Krakauer who investigated the life and death of a free spirited individual named Christopher McCandless. McCandless was a recent Emory University graduate who sought to suck the marrow out of life through an independent experience in nature and purposely sought to this experience in the rawest form of supplies. He was found dead in August of 1992 in an abandoned bus in the Alaskan wilderness. For the sake of his journey, he purposely didn't bring an adequate amount of food or supplies. Consequently, those who read of his actions wonder what evoked him to live the way he
Yet after his encounter with the witches, his mind was going back and forth trying to figure out how he should act upon the prophecy of becoming king! It was by then that the idea of fate had been planted into his head, and with such good title to come with it, why wouldn’t he want to believe his ‘fate’? Something that I found very interesting about the witches was that looking closely at line 24-25 when one of the witches says, "Though his bark cannot be lost, yet it shall be tempest-tossed." From what I seemed to understand, these lines seemed to really show the limitations to the witches’ powers, because they were basically saying that they could only make life rough for the clueless captain, but they could not kill him. I think that this is really important to all the people who thought that the witches had ‘written out’ Macbeth’s fate because in the same way as the previous stated scene they can tempt Macbeth with predictions about his future, but they cannot make him choose evil. Meaning that in this scene, one of the conflicts is obviously fate vs. free will! All the witches really did was find a way of stirring up evil, by tempting Macbeth into choosing to opt for evil instead of good. “If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me, without my stir.” (Act 1. Scene iii. Line 10). Here, Macbeth seems content to leave his future to "chance." If "chance" will have
Fate seems to defy humanity at every turn. A man may have his life planned out to the last second, but then some random force intervenes and he dies the second after he has completed his life plan. Some believe in fate, believing that our lives are predetermined from the moment we are born. Other people believe that everything is random, the result of some god rolling the dice in a universal poker game. Still other people believe that each and every person is in total control of his or her destiny, every step of the way. Who is to say which viewpoint is false? Every culture has a unique perception of the role of fate in our lives, and no group has the "right answer," simply a
Some people may not believe that destiny is something that truthfully exists in the world. These people doubt that there is anything that is actually meant to be, or supposed to happen, thinking that there is always a way around troubling predicaments, knowing that it is not necessary to turn out just one certain way. They trust that whatever occurs in their lives comes as a result of the decisions that they make with their own free will. Others believe that whatever happens during the course of their lives is inevitable and every event is laid out before them like a road map to life, in other words, fate. William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet has fate as an exceptionally crucial element which makes fate as important as any
Fate and free will are two topics that are often questionable because they go hand in hand. Fate is a belief that a certain event is said to happen, then that person's choice and free will lead them to what has been predicted as inevitable. Knowing whether something is fate’s fault or the fault of the person who’s going to enact the said action, is one question that has never been fully answered. In Sophocles' Oedipus Rex and Shakespeare's Macbeth, fate is determined by their own choices and free will, the character Macbeth knows of what lies ahead of him, making him alter the present to create his idealistic future, however instead he lives a life of ruins. As for Oedipus his entire actions are based on one prophecy he desperately
When you think about destiny you think about decisions you make in your daily life. This can be found in mr. destiny, the road not taken and a personal experience.
