In middle adulthood there are many changes that occur physically, psychologically, and socially as explained in the above passages. Yet, some say that this is the best time of their life, they experience enhanced self-confidence, great sex lives, career success, and enhanced brain functions. Middle age adults are better equipped to make better life choices and decisions and not worry so much about the negative parts of life. Their problem solving skills are greater which allows them to reason more creatively. They are able to enjoy sex freely without the worries of getting pregnant and they feel more confident with their partners. In general they are happier about life and look forward to enjoying the rest of their lives.

Emerging adults have reached a step up from childhood but are not yet ready to fully take on adult responsibilities. This part of life is open to many new experiences which can be very good for the morality of this upcoming generation of adults. People find themselves changing majors in college or taking different classes to explore their interests and find out where they best belong in their future career field.

The journey through late adulthood can be experienced in different ways. One particular movie entitled “The Bucket List” exhibits an astounding portrayal of late adulthood. In fact, there are many accounts that the movie entails about late-adulthood. This includes the illustration of Erickson’s late adulthood stage – “Ego Integrity vs. Despair,” wisdom, marriage, friendship, parent-child relationship, and death and dying in late adulthood.

Emerging Adults hood is the concept that between the ages18 years old to mid to late 20’s individuals go through what is essentially partially adolescence turning into an adult (Arnett, n.d). Emerging adulthood is the period of time when young adults are in a transition from adolescence to young adulthood. This time emphasizes change and exploration of possible life directions in love, work, and worldviews. It is the time when young adults form romantic and long-term relationships such as marriage, and when they get established in a career field. It is also the age of identity explorations, instability, possibilities, feeling in-between and self-focused.

It has been suggested by previous research that the majority of 18 to 25 year olds are no longer part of the adolescent group. Though, they do not consider themselves to be adults either. Scientists have long discovered that adolescence is critical in the transition to adulthood (Hagan & Wheaton, 1993). This period between adolescence and adulthood has been referred to as emerging adulthood (Arnett, 2000). The transition from adolescence to adulthood often involved; graduating, finding a fixed job, establishing an independent household, getting married and becoming a parent (Arnett, 1997, 2001; Nelson & McNamara Barry, 2005). Adolescence is the developmental period of transition from childhood to early adulthood, entered at approximately 10 to 12 years of age and ending at 18 years of age (Hollingsworth, 2016). This time frame is marked with rapid physical changes such as dramatic gains in height and weight, changes in body contour, and development of sexual characteristics.

Emerging adulthood is a phase of the life span between adolescence and full-fledged adulthood which encompasses late adolescence and early adulthood. Jeffrey Arnett a Psychologist suggested a new period of life called Emerging adulthood. A time of the end of adolescence to young responsible adults. As Arnett describes emerging adulthood with the age of identity exploration, age of instability, age of self-focus, age of feeling in between, and age of possibilities. Age of identity exploration is when emerging adults decide who they are, where they want to pursue an education, and what they enjoy doing. You need to learn about your interests and be creative with your life. Learning enables us to survive have full life overcome fear help us cope with change. To help us reach our full potential means we need to express our creativity our drive to bring something new into being. Age of instability once you decide if you want to attend college or move in with family or friends. Age of self-focus when you no longer depend on your parents deciding what talents you have that will help you choose a career. Talent is an ability or an aptitude that has value it is often thought as a gift in the sense that a person seems to be born with. Age of feeling in between are starting to take responsibility for but do not feel like a complete independent adult yet. Age of possibilities the feeling of being young and having free will to decide what you want to do with your life. Free will is to do what you ought to do. So many entitled kids think a good paying job will just be handed to them and they don’t have to work for it. Many if you are lucky you are born into a family where you don’t have to worry about money or getting a job but for most we need to work for what we want. In this generation many need the motivation to work. Work will enable us to provide for our families and will occupy a large part of our life. Work allows us to contribute to the building of the world and it provides us with a sense of dignity in life. This time is a critical development that reflects how you are shaped by your family, experiences, and morals. This transition works to establish your identity. According to Jeffrey Arnott, his idea of emerging adulthood comes from the transiton from adoloscence and aduthood. According to my own point of view, an adult is a mature male or female who can be separated amongst good and bad. This is inner voice. An adult ought to have the capacity to reason uniquely in contrast to a minor by making the best decision at the ideal time at the correct way and place. This to me characterizes an adult.. For one to move from youth into adulthood, a considerable measure happens relying upon nature of childhood. This leads to the ideas that Arnett had regarding the emerging adulthood, “whose parents can foot the bill while their trying to figure out what is that they want to do with their lives” (Arnett, 2009).

Currently, I have several supports that are helping me transition to adulthood. These supports come from Saint Ambrose, my friends, and family. Personally, most of these support systems have had a positive impact on my development; however, other’s support systems may not have had a positive impact on their development.

1. Emerging adulthood is the the development period that starts from the age of 18 and ends at 29. This is a period of exploration that young people explore who they are, where they want to work, and how they want to live their life. Instability occurs after high school, when people are often moving around, and have different relationships with individuals. Self-focus people decide and make decisions before they have to consult with a partner. Feeling between where people have to make decisions for themselves, but also feel that they are not able to be considered as an adult just yet. Possibilities focus mostly on optimism.

For most people, the transition from childhood to adulthood technically occurs whenever you turn eighteen years old. For myself, I believe that my transition to adulthood occurred within my family and community on the day I got my car. I have learned many lessons from having my own car, about many things, including life, money, and trust. Having your very own car teaches you lots of things, and these lessons will stay with you for the rest of your life.

In addition, Thomas Bergler describes the transition of millennials from the calm seas of childhood into adolescence and into tumultuous waters of adulthood has “receded into the distant…Developmental psychologists have identified a new life stage they call emerging adulthood.” Furthermore, Christian Smith contributes to the idea of emerging adulthood as, “…not making commitments, not putting down roots, not setting a definite course for the long term. It is about experimenting, exploring, experiencing, preparing, anticipating, having fun, and hopefully not screwing things up too badly in the meantime.”

Emerging adulthood is a stage where one can find our self-identity, make decisions about continuing school, make important decisions for your health, and finally, for some, being financially
