Devil's Night Informative Speech

Good evening members of the Cairns Literary Association. Thank you for inviting me to speak as a guest at this dinner. In this presentation, I will share my perspective on the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Throughout this presentation, I will outline some of the dominant readings and discuss the messages Mary Shelley intended to include in her novel. I will also provide evidence to show that the novel includes themes and messages that were not intended to be included.

Of course, I’m sure you have heard of “Ring around the Rosie”, but did you know it may be inspired by the cause of more than 20 million Europeans? This pandemic was called Yersinia Petsis, but more commonly called “Black Death” because of the dark patches and swellings on the skin of its host. This disaster came from trade with other countries, but once transmitted to America it spread by rodents and fleas. The Black Death may have been spread by seemingly harmless creatures, but it caused death in about three days.

Day of the Dead is some thing I have been learning about in Spanish class. Now I am going to tell you some facts about Day of the Dead. The Day of the Dead is celebrated by Mexicans and some Hispanic cultures around the world. It’s a celebration remembering their dead loved ones. This year the Day of the Dead will be November 1 and 2.

The following is a summary on the short essay The Dark Night of the Soul by Richard E Miller. This short essay is an essay that has been written with a main point always in mind, that reading and writing has very powerful influences people and their imagination but, the act of reading and writing is not being utilized as much in the modern world. When I was a child my friends and I had Halloween parties where we would share candy and play board games like Monopoly and Sorry. Eventually, after I had eaten all of my favorite candy, I would be exhausted and head home. Now as an adult, I attend parties where the only games that people are playing involve ping-pong balls and red solo cups. To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel by Harper Lee where a young girl named Jean Louise Finch, or Scout, talks about her life in Maycomb, Alabama. The story is set during the hardest part of the 1930s; the Great Depression. In the story, many holidays are talked about, including Halloween. The mention of Halloween in the novel helps develop the characterization of Boo Radley and Bob Ewell.

In 2005, fantasy writer, Ridley Pearson, released the first fantastical novel in the series Kingdom Keepers which proves this idea. With fantasy and technology combining to create the most captivating of realms, Disney After Dark is a magical novel to read, with several themes, including imagination changing into reality and magic. Today I am going to be speaking about voodoo and why it is seen as a negative topic and I’m sure that each and everyone of you here today has their own perception (view/belief) of voodoo inside their head. Most people including myself are convinced that it includes evil spirits, black magic, or causing harm to others.

The heat of summer has finally softened and the crisp, cooling temperatures of fall are finding their way across the landscape. Finding outdoor activities that kids keep moving and exercising with during the cooler months of the year is always a challenge. With the proliferation of computer games and social media, kids will naturally gravitate towards staying indoors. However, the season for Halloween is upon us and this presents the perfect opportunity for parents to provide an array of outdoor activities that no child can resist. Using some of these fun games for a Halloween party not only gets kids outdoor, it can also help develop their fine motor, social and artistic skills.

What is the illuminati, and who really controls it, but the real question is who’s in the illuminati. The illuminati is said to be something evil, something that created artists like Beyonce, Jay-z and Britney Spears, and more famous people. The reason they became famous was because of the illuminati they have the money and the fame, they also have control over the world. Not only is the illuminati taking over the artist but is also throwing out symbols in kids movies and hand signs. Good morning Dr. Spring, to answer your question I would like to start off by analyzing the verbiage on the Universal studios poster “10,000 Indians roar into battle,” from this already media of the time in my opinion tell me how fierce they are and animalistic as if referring to a hungry lion. Then the second statement “death-defying race of an ammunition wagon through a horde of red devils,” first off the sentence alone is racist using the term ‘red devils’. Then there is the use of horde as if they were a swarm of mosquitoes invading. Lastly the last sentence the “fiendish torture den of ruthless Geronimo,” this poster seems to speak to me as if this where a horror film. Completely inaccurate image of Apache in the west. Borrowing from Irish and English traditions, Americans began to dress up in costumes and go house to house asking for food or money. Over time this tradition turned in to today modern “trick or treating”. In the late 1800s, America turned Halloween into a holiday more about community and neighborly get-togethers than about ghosts, and witchcraft. As the centuries changed Halloween parties for both children and adults became the most common way to celebrate the day. Parties focused on games, foods of the season and festive costumes. Parents were encouraged by newspapers and community leaders to take anything “frightening” or “grotesque” out of Halloween celebrations. Because of these efforts, Halloween lost most of its superstitious and religious overtones by the beginning of the twentieth century (Kammen).
