For this paper, the fictional character I have chosen to analyze is Dexter Morgan, from the TV series and books known simply as Dexter. Dexter Morgan can be described as a Psychopathic serial killer who works in the forensics department as a blood spatter forensic analyst for the Miami-Metro police department as a cover up occupation in the day time to conceal his true personal identity. He has a foster sister named Debra Morgan, whom he is/was very close with and who also works as a detective for the same occupational department. The reason why she is his foster sister is because he was an adopted child. When he was very young, his adopter who worked as an officer for Miami-Metro named Harry Morgan found him in a crate filled with blood up to the ankles where his mother, who worked as a police informant, and three others, were murdered via chainsaw by cartel drug dealers after being exposed. He was found after sitting for two days in the crate at the age of 2 years old. Dexter however, unlike many other killers of his magnitude and caliber, doesn’t just find a way to kill when his urges and “voices” become overwhelming. A special code was developed for him to, in a very controversial way, direct these malicious urges and temptations in a most beneficial way to society, which in this case would be to kill other killers and individuals “deserving” of death. For example, rather than murdering an innocent civilian, this said code would not allow this, and would redirect him to
Jeffrey Dahmer was a notorious serial killer in the late 70’s throughout the early 90’s. What made him stand out from most serial killer’s was what he did to the bodies of his victims. During this research paper, I will cover his childhood life, what led to his lifestyle of killing and cannibalism and also the crimes that were committed during his murderous acts. I will also compare what theories relate to Jeffrey Dohmer and what could possibly be the reason why he did what he did.
My research paper is on Anthony Sowell, a serial killer, identified in press reports as the Cleveland Strangler. My research will examine and explain Anthony Sowell’s life and history prior to his crimes, the crimes and personality theories that apply to his deviant behavior.
If you have ever been interested in the world of why serial killers kill, chances are you have done some research or even watched the insanely popular television show Dexter. “Dexter Morgan is a Forensics Expert, a loyal brother, boyfriend, and friend. That 's what he seems to be, but that 's not what he really is. Dexter Morgan is a Serial Killer that hunts the bad. (TV.com)” Dexter is a serial killer yet he works for the Miami Police Department in blood spatter forensics, because of his experience he is extremely good at his job. Dexter was adopted at a very young age, his adoptive father soon realized that Dexter was different, his father taught him
As one studies other viewing and readings such as Silence of the Lambs, Dexter, Perfume, Natural Born Killers, True Blood, Dead until Dark, and The Walking Dead it can be found that both nature and nurture take a part in creating a serial killer. Dexter Morgan is a serial killer that developed a want to kill as a child. Growing up with a foster family he had all the love, nurture, and support of a normal child, but he had a missing part of him with the mystery of his dead mother. Harry, his foster father had recognized Dexter’s need to kill early in life and was able to teach him how to kill properly. Harry was smart in understanding there was no way to contain or stop Dexter’s desire to kill, but he
A quote from well-known Scottish killer, Dennis Nilson, states exactly what his motives were for viscously killing his innocent victims. “I did it all for me,” he says, “purely selfish. I worshipped the art and act of death, over and over. It is as simple as that. Afterwards, it was all sexual confusion, symbolism, honouring the ‘fallen’. I was honouring myself. I hated the decay
Serial killers have fascinated the imaginations of people for a long time. One of the most notorious serial killers is Jeffrey Dahmer whose gruesome murders shocked the nation. Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer also known as Milwaukee monster was a notorious American serial killer and sexual offender in the 1980s and early 1990s. Between 1978 and 1991 Dahmer had murdered 17 men. His victims were usually raped, tortured, dismembered, and cannibalism was also involved. Jeffrey was a troubled child psychologically and his social skills had a lot to be desired. All the way through his childhood he was ignored and had queer fantasies of cadavers. In his adulthood this psychosocial status quo didn 't change and was in fact aggravated.
Dexter is a televesion program that debued in 2006. It follows a middle aged man named Dexter Morgan who works for the fictional Miami Metro Police Department as a blood splater anilyst. To his friends and co-workers he seems like a normal man albeit a little socially awkward. This is far from the truth however as Dexter is actually a serial killer. Thourghout the series we are given insits into Dexters past to explain how and why he became a serial killer. The main reason is reviled to be the fact that when he was three years old he witnessed the brutal murder of his mother in front of him. This lead to him being adopted by the police officer who found him. Its was not long after he was adopted that his adoptive father started noticing signs that Dexter had antisocial personality disorder such as killing animals. Instead of taking Dexter to get the help that he needed he decided to take matters into his own hands. He trained Dexter how to kill people and get away with it; however, he tought him to only kill murderers who he thought had escaped punishment.
Dexter, is a blood splatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police, who doubles as a secret serial killer. Although Dexter is a serial killer, he lives by the code made up by his father, Harry Morgan, when he noticed Dexter's serial killer tendencies when Dexter was growing up. The code states that he only kills murderers and other violent criminals who have evaded the law. After his father's passing he has killed multiple people, all while adhering to his code. This is one of some of Dexter's ongoing projects in his life, as well as the main project. Although the code he adheres to is important and could make the project slightly more morally okay, it doesn’t really matter in Wolf’s argument. We also do not have the ability to gauge what is morally good or bad, because we all have different outlooks and opinions. Moving forward, this project leads Dexter to have a meaningful life. He is actively engaged with this project, in the fact that he is continuing to kill bad people. Even when he was young, he was actively engaged with this project of killing. He is also getting positive value from this, in terms of him getting something out of killing someone as well as not getting caught and thus being able to keep killing. Dexter is also doing all of this successfully, again, he is not just killing bad people but hiding his secret life
Have you ever have felt like two completely different people? Dexter Morgan has been all of these throughout his entire life since he was little. His mother was killed in front of him when he was at a very young age. A cop named Harry Morgan had founded Dexter when he was in a pool of blood beside his mother. He taught Dexter all of these ways to not get caught. To keep his hands clean without being under someone’s radar. Dexter’s character arch is symbolic of the human struggle to move from the primitive monster to the noble and compassionate messiah.
In the article "Sympathy for the Devil: The Nice-Guy Serial Killer Next Door,” Bellafante states that “Dexter is unique to other killers because he shows that he has real feelings by being a primary caregiver for his sister, Rita, and her two children she had with a previous marriage” (Bellafante). In the episode “Dexter”, Dexter repeatedly tells the audience that he cannot feel, suavely painting himself as a monstrous shell of a person. However, he repeatedly breaks this illusion by displaying affection towards his sister and his girlfriend, Rita. Although he claims that his personal relationships are created to maintain a facade of normalcy, his love for his foster father, is shown in his strict adherence to the principles he had been taught
A serial killer could be dining, sitting, or even living next to you at this very moment. Most killers offer little to no obvious clues that will lead anyone to detect their often secretive, undercover actions. I ask myself, “How can we be so naive to these types of people?” Serial killers amongst us are often well educated, portray an All-American image, yet have a psychotic side to them.
While the police department Dexter works at is trying to find the killer, he is receiving all of the uncovered information on their leads. Him being the killer, he is able to cover his tracks and point them into a different direction and not get caught. This is until conflict starts to engage and take its place when his sister, Debra, finds out he was the killer all along not knowing about it. She unexpectedly catches him murdering a man at a crime scene they were investigating recently. Now, Dexter is terrified that his own sister will expose him to the public which creates tension in the show.
he kills. This is what sets him apart from other serial killers. He is both good and evil. Is Dexter
The series, Dexter, is written to entertain. The audience is meant to see the life a killer and the struggles that the killer must go through in order to stay out of prison and to live a normal life. The creator of the show includes a different killer in every season that poses a problem to Dexter. Each of the killers are taken out by Dexter and over the course of the entire series, more is revealed about Dexter until he is nearly caught
At the beginning of his life Dexter has shown early behavioural problems. His father confronts Dexter at an early age, about a atrocity Dexter had committed. Dexter had slain a dog due to the dog barking and it having to annoying his mother. Afterward in his life, Dexter’s father discovers a pack of knifes and other weapons (one of whom has blood on it) which belong to Dexter. Dexter points out that he has used these weapons to kill animals and not humans in order to suppress his urge to slaughter. It is formally revealed that his bloodlust has been with him before he was even adopted and presumably Dexter was born with the bloodlust. Psychopaths, unlike a sociopath, are born psychopathy and not transformed into it thus Dexter may have been
