Conflict means different opinion to different people. In some reason, conflict can cause fighting, war or trade embargos. But for other people it might be a different in opinion, perspective or personality. Others may think they are in a conflict situation, when the other side may feel that they are just discussing opposing views. His situation depends on our effects can result in damaging our relationship. As a charge nurse, we have to be aware how this issue arises and how to overcome and manage this conflict. If this conflict causes an unhealthy situation and we are allowing it to develop , the side effect can result in lasting damage to the relationship between the staff not only in the working place but also a personal relationship. The workplace conflict may come out to be strictly interpersonal; however, it is important to ask yourself if it is possible that workplace conditions were the catalyst or the enabler. Maybe a charge nurse or head nurse ignored the system of budding. The new nurse shoud work together (working side to side) with senior staff instead of having her work entirely by herself. Eventho the charge nurse is always assisting her, but the charge nurse has many other duties to bear away.
Often, when the conflict happens, it is more volatile and more debilitating to the organization than it was initially. An open conflict or interpersonal disagreement festers just below the surface in the work environment. It comes up to the surface whenever enabled, and always at the worst possible instant.

In today’s organizations conflict and power are important elements to the success of any company but can also create negative long term impacts if not addressed. There are two different types of conflicts that could happen in a work place which would be functional and dysfunctional. A functional conflicts is a healthy, constructive disagreement between a groups or individual. A dysfunctional conflict is an unhealthy disagreement that occurs among an individual or groups of employees. A functional conflict will leave employees on a positive note it would only bring awareness to both sides of the issue, improvement of working conditions due to accomplishing solution together, solving issues together to improve overall morale, and making innovation and improvements with an organization. Yes, our unit also has charge nurses. At one time, we did have a set RN on each shift, that just did the charge nurse role, but now we rotate the position. It has its pros and cons with the rotation. Having different RNs take charge, gives everyone a chance to experience and demonstrate their leadership. The downside to rotating is, everyone has different ideas, skills and ways of handling situations. I guess there are more ways to handle being a charge nurse, as long as patients needs are being met safely and patients are happy. As for the nurses, its not always possible to make everyone happy, but for the most part, that goal is met. In my opinion that nurses must understand that their leadership is as important to providing quality care and know when delegation duties to nurse assistants to deliver care to patients in safe and effective manner. As a charge nurses, must learn the manager role, ability to be risk taker and how to uses their nursing experience. They must lead in improving work processes on the front lines, working with others, and following facility protocol. I am getting a little nervous and anxious how to prepare for this challenge just think about start taking care of patients all on my own. Every day as something new as a new nurse must deal with, this means thing are a lot different than what we have been taught in school this will be a big challenge.
After a certain level of conflict or numerous issues, there will be some nurses that will decide to seek employment elsewhere thus causing increased turnover of personnel.
