Abortion is the ending of pregnancy before the fetus can live independently outside the mothers womb. Pregnant mothers who use abortion, use abortion as an option because they have the fear that their family will judge them by their mistakes. () 50% of U.S. women having abortions are younger than 25. Women between the age of 20-24 have 33% of all U.S abortions. There are 17% of teenagers having abortions. Abortion to a minor is easier to persuade to, because a minor has no idea what will happen. They have their whole life ahead of them and their future my just be starting. Along with minors, adults use abortions as an early choice. Girls who become pregnant use abortion as an easy way out. The complication in an abortion results from the different type of abortion taking place.
The most common type of abortion is taken place during the first trimester. The first trimester is before the 12th week of pregnancy. In this stage the fetus can turn summersaults, suck his or her thumb, frown, jump, and move his or her tongue.Vacuum aspiration (the suction method) is the most common type of abortion made during the first trimester. It is a surgical procedure that involves anesthesia. During vacuum aspiration, the cervix is gently dilated, and a narrow tube with a knife-edged tip is inserted into the womb. Then the vacuum tears the fetus and the placenta into pieces and sucks everything out of the womb. If all the contents are not out, the doctor has to go in and scrap out the remaining materials. During this procedure the fetus is unable to understand what all is happening but they are still human. The mothers who choose this option ignores the fact that fetus is growing and that ever since the day he or she was conceived, the tiny characteristics of the mother and father are being formed into this child.
Another method used in abortion is Dialation and Evacuation. Dialation and Evacuation is used up to 18 weeks. In those 18 weeks the fetus has already grown 5 inches long, has eyelashes, eyebrows, fingernails, can blink, grasp, move its mouth and has hair

This specific author performed studies, exams, courses, and clinicals and discovered the facts about the harm that takes place to your body after having an abortion. Bertha discusses the hard, mental griefs and traumas that follow the procedure, as well as the uneasy argument about the virtuous worth of the human fetus. The author brings experience to the discussion through the psychological department, being an Associate Professor of Philosophy in the School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies at Arizona State University, as well as having written many informative and knowledgeable articles.

The way late term abortion are performed after 20 weeks gestation, are most commonly performed by dilation and evacuation (these procedures are used for 96% of abortions at 13 weeks of gestation) or dilation and extraction. Neither of these methods involve “ripping babies out of the womb” and the fetuses are not alive during such procedures. During the dilation
During the second trimester, a method is used called Dilation and Evacuation (D&E). During D&E, a forceps is used to take out larger pieces of the child, while a curette scrapes the smaller tissues out. Following this, a vacuum extracts any remaining pieces of the child. During the third trimester, a (now outlawed in most states) procedure is performed called “Partial Birth Abortion” During partial birth abortion, the child is partially delivered, and the skull is subsequently crushed or drilled into, thus killing the child.
According to “Facts on Late-Term Abortion” by Meg Brannagan, more than 1 million abortions are performed in the United States per year. Roughly 12,000 abortions are third-term abortions, meaning they occur after 21 weeks of gestation. The most common procedure for third term abortions is called a dilation and evacuation surgery. During this procedure, an abortion specialist terminates the fetus with a shot through the mother's stomach and into the baby’s brain. Later, after three days have passed, physicians remove the fetus in pieces. According to these facts, the termination of a baby after 20 weeks is not only inhumane and cruel, but puts the mother at severe risk of infection, and therefore, should not be allowed in the United States of America.
The resource and textbook both share information on abortions. There are different types of abortions, but the most commonly used method is the surgical abortion. This method is used by a vacuum. Many patients get abortion during their first 3 week or first trimester. “Surgical methods are most common in this country, but the use of medications is also possible, as is suction” Many women typically get surgical abortions in the US. “Over 90% of all abortions occur in the first 3 months of pregnancy, and 63% occur in the first 8 weeks” (328) Many women get abortions before their second trimester starts because it’s easier and simpler that
Just about all abortions take place early in the pregnancy like the first trimester, when a fetus does not exist without the support of the mother. Because it’s attached by the placenta and umbilical cord and cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot survive outside her
How does a child enter this world? Well, answers can vary. Most of the time, the child is born into a loving home that has anticipated his or her arrival for months. Other times, a child may be born into a loosely structured family that has no idea how to raise it. In more rare cases, a baby could be born into a dangerous environment; especially if it was conceived by rape or by people engaging in an abusive relationship. People cringe when they hear of a child being abused or neglected, but they never ask themselves how all of that suffering could have been avoided. Although some people may not agree, availability of abortion exercises women 's rights, saves children from a life of foster care or orphanages, and from unfit parents.
The process of abortion is performed either medically with a pill or done surgically. Since abortion is legal in most states up to the 2nd trimester, imagine how developed some of these unborn children are at the time of abortion. The pill method causes a miscarriage to occur, while the surgical methods physically remove the baby. Vacuum aspiration involves removing the fetus by suction. The 2nd procedure of dilation and evacuation involves medically ripening the cervix and the manual removal of the fetus and placenta with forceps (Lohr, Fjerstad,
This usually occurs during the second or third trimester. The cervix is dilated for the entry of surgical forceps (AbortionTV). The fetus is partly pulled though the vagina in a breech style. The legs of the fetus are hanging out of the womb. The doctor forces the scissors into the back of the head and spreads the scissors to increase the wound size. A suction cup is held over the fetus’s head as the brains are sucked out (AbortionTV). The body is removed and the womb is cleaned of any other birthing particles. The partial abortion procedure can have fatal side effects such as infection of the cervix, excessive bleeding of the womb, chances for the mother to be fertile decreases, and causes scarring of the uterine wall. Medical experts thought the fetus couldn’t feel the pain of the scissors going through its head but, they were wrong. Studies show that it can feel the pain three to five times more than an adult that would experience it (AbortionTV). The tiny fetus’s are sedated and numbed up so the won’t feel the intense pain.
It is considered minimally invasion as it only local anesthesia is used to numb the cervix. Aspiration is another first trimester abortion method. This is also referred to as a D&C (dilation and curettage abortion). This procedure will not generally be done using local anesthesia alone. Medication based abortion procedures are not an option during the second trimester of pregnancy. Local anesthesia is used and either a D&C or a D&E (dilation and evacuation) method is performed. Less than ten percent of abortions are done in the second trimester. Third trimester or late term abortions are extremely rare. Third trimester abortions are no longer legal in most states, as a result of the “partial birth abortion act” except under certain extreme medical conditions. These were known as late term abortions. In the medical community the point of viability is still a grey area, but most consider the twenty-fourth week the earliest viable period. Until approximately the twenty-fourth week of pregnancy an induction abortion is used to terminate pregnancy. Previous to becoming illegal, intrauterine cranial decompression was used to end late term pregnancies. (americanpregnancy.org)
At 13 weeks into her pregnancy, 29-year-old Jessica Smith lost her 5th baby, lifesitenews states. “I expected to be handed a blob that early into pregnancy. But instead, I was handed a perfectly formed tiny baby. He had perfectly formed fingers and toes. He had tiny, completely identifiable ears, nose, and mouth,” Jessica Smith told lifesitenews. According to Procon, abortion is one of the most debated topics in the United States (Procon). Planned Parenthood states, there are two different ways a woman can undergo an abortion, the abortion pill, or an in-clinic abortion. The pill only works up to ten weeks into a pregnancy. The doctor will give a woman her first pill in the clinic, and anywhere from six to 48 hours later, a woman can take the second one at home. There are two different types of in-clinical abortions. A suction abortion is used for a pregnancy anywhere between ten and 16 weeks. It uses suction to empty the uterus. Dilation and evacuation is used for a pregnancy anytime after 16 weeks and involves suction, and medical tools to empty a woman’s uterus (Planned Parenthood). Abortion results in terminating an unwanted pregnancy and should be illegal worldwide.
xAn abortion is defined as a deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. There are many chemical contraceptives and morning after pills that some would also consider a form of abortion though for the sake of this paper we will only define the two main methods for performing an abortion. An Aspiration is a surgical abortion usually performed within the first month gestation. This 10-15-minute procedure involves the suction of the uterus to remove the fetus and placenta. Recovery time can take as long as a few hours after the procedure. Dilation and Evacuation is a surgical abortion performed beyond the 16-week gestation period. This involves a synthetic dilator the day before, as well as using a shot to guarantee fetal death. After this, removal of the tissue away from the lining will begin. Suctioning completes the process to ensure all contents are completely removed. This procedure usually last between 15-30 minutes. Both Aspiration as well as Dilation and Evacuation procedures can come with the risk of side effects including cramping, nausea, bleeding, sweating and infection.
The most probable method of abortion is called dilation and curettage. General anaesthetic is provided to the pregnant mother while the gynaecologist opens (dilates) the cervix with instruments called dilators, and then inserts a hollow tube through the cervix. Suction is applied to remove the retained tissue in the uterus. If the abortion is to be carried out on the 20th-24th week, 2 general anaesthetics with 2 nights will be supplied.
Descriptive: Abortion is the termination of an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. It is a controversial issue affecting our society and raises ethical issues. Abortions can be performed before nine weeks from the last menstrual period and is performed either surgically with the removal of the fetus or medically with drugs. From nine weeks until 14 weeks, an abortion is performed by a dilatation and suction curettage procedure. After 14 weeks, abortions are then performed by an evacuation procedure. After 20 weeks of gestation, abortions can be performed by labor induction, prostaglandin labor induction, saline infusion, hysterectomy, or dilatation and extraction.
