Digital Changes: Google Maps
Growing up in an age where technology is flourishing I have witnessed huge changes in technology and digital media. One of these technologies that have made a huge impact on my life is Google Maps. Google maps is not only easy to use but also free technology that has made driving and finding locations much easier in modern day society for many individuals. Google maps can be accessed on numerous devices like your computer, iPad, and even your phone. Personally, living in such a populated city and being new to the Orlando area, I depend heavily on Google maps to help me figure out where I am going in a timely matter. Without Google Maps, I probably would be extremely lost more often then not when traveling to more distant places in Orlando because it is such a large city.
Google maps benefits my life by making it so I am not late when I am going places. Sometimes I volunteer on the other side of Orlando and need to figure out the fastest route to get there and Google maps, with its traffic feature, has saved me the headache of figuring out when I should leave to avoid being late. My current volunteering position is working with animals and I like to be able to give the animals as much attention as possible and Google Maps allows me to get there in time to hang out with all of my animal friends who need love and affection. Not only has the traffic feature saved me from being late but it also provides alternative routes that saves
For example, you can get live traffic camera information. I know for a fact this can benefit many of people who have to drive on the interstate during traffic hours. Another benefit is being able to get highway road conditions, so you won’t come across any accidents, road closures, flood, damage, or construction. It also shows residents of Texas how to file a complaint, find meetings, and report fraud. This website is just full of great information to keep residents update about transportation issues.
According to “Real Adventures Read Maps: Using Maps vs. GPS” written by Steven Kurtuz on July 19th, 2014, there are many reasons why a GPS is helpful but having a paper map as a backup can ensure that you can get to your destination. Throughout the generations of technology, paper maps have become less common, and GPS’ is usually the way that people get to places. For example, in the text, the wife had said that she likes the ease of the GPS, and she likes that she knows she is on the best route. In my opinion, I like GPS because it does tell you where to go, but in some cases it can make your trip longer due to new roads or a malfunction, so it always good to have a paper map ready to go. The paper map “engages you actively with your surroundings,”
I agree that the autonomous car is beneficial for someone who doesn’t really the area. I have lived Florida for only three years, so I am still not familiar with this area. So, if I have the autonomous car, I don’t have to look up the map every time, when I go far away. But I am afraid of computer system takes full control of driving.
Haloperidol is one of the choice treatments for treating MAP. Haloperidol is also an aggressive dopamine blockade (antagonist) which has been hypothesized to worsen craving and reduces motivation to continue medication and which may lead to a high chance of a drug relapse. Quetiapine targets dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors and therefore may have fewer side effects that may lead to a lower risk of drug relapse. “The aims of this study were to compare the antipsychotic and adverse events of quetiapine, an atypical antipsychotic drug, to haloperidol, a standard treatment for primary psychotic disorder, in individuals with MAP.” It is hypothesized that overall Quetiapine may be a better option for treating MPA because it may help
Maps have been around for centuries. We begin with the simple paper map and then move to an electronic map. Google Maps have been recreating and improving some time now. Now the maps have the ability to show areas of high attraction or interest. With these high quality techniques there must be no flaws included in the process, right? Wrong. All maps have some form of fault or distortion. The advanced google maps that have become a part of our everyday lives through technology has their flaws. In a sense the maps lie. Author Henry Barber of the article “All Maps Are Biased. Google Maps’ New Redesign Doesn’t Hide It”, tells us of how the google map covers up places. The map is biased to its sponsors. Barber says, “Google maps is flawed because
Data visualization is “a unique blend of graphic art and data science that’s helping both researchers and everyday people make sense of the ever-growing databases that increasingly influence our lives” (PCWorld 2013). From figure 1 in my appendix, the map represents the data visualization I developed. The numbers are the data that were significant to me and the entire map is the visual. The data that I collected and translated into numbers are able to help people identify what is around my community. For instance, figure 1 data 1 represents a memento to Italian-Americans. If people were to follow my map they can use my data to track where all the mementos are located. Another reason why data visualization in the form of mapping is beneficial is that it has potential for developments: “giving people a visualization just so they can see the kinds of things that can be done with data …constructing cities” (Mashable 2012). Data visualization can also be used through satellites for tracking military troops movement (The Atlantic 2015). As a result, maps as a form of data visualization has potential to improve the way the future develop as long as the data can be
It is likely to give as news that the world's most widely used site changed its logo is like saying that it's raining, but still at least worth mentioning, since it is neither more nor less than Google, the king of Internet.
Geocaching is an effective way to spend an afternoon, a day, or a weekend. This procedure seems to be taking the rustic thru storm and is answerable for the rising reputation and availability of GPS and auto navigation strategies available on the market in recent years. Many people don’t seem to be simply purchasing minimal strategies that data them to their coordinates with beeps and blips alternatively investing in whole strategies that can provide much more useful tracking and mapping utilities.
Although Google, Wikipedia has changed the world; however, its said to have changed for the worse as expressed in “How Google, Wikipedia Have Changed Our Lives..” by J.W. Maderazo. To begin with, Google and Wikipedia may give people information without picking up a book, but it is not challenging anyone to do the research themselves. Maderazo stated, “I am also feeling unchallenged and reliant on this type of convenience.” People who use the internet are not using their own intelligence to enhance oneself but relying on a sole source to do all the work for them. Also important, In this time and age, everyone is using Google, and Wikipedia sources for everything they can think of, which makes everyone so impatient when trying to get information.
If you do not have the latest iPhone with accounts in the most popular apps you are the odd one out these days. Phones are not phones anymore; they are capable of too many things to be just a phone. Now you can take out your phone and know exactly where you are in the world, live stream what you are doing at this exact moment, the possibilities are almost endless. One of the best apps I’ve seen take advantage of what the phone can do is the Geocaching app. Geocaching is able to use the phone to help the user find their cache, and as media changes this app has been able to not only stay relevant but begin to flourish. Geocaching is a relevant app because it unites the paradoxes of media, is a good
It facilitates the tasks when I cannot find any accurate information about a place that I need to map. I would input the address in Pictometry and it gives me the location and the picture of the area. That helps me in finding whether the place is still existing or not.
A key area that will have to be addressed in order for Google gain competitive advantage in this market is safety. Safety is probably the single most important concern surrounding Google’s self-driving cars or any other Companies pursuing this emerging industry. Because this is a new technology, Google will need to gain consumer trust by ensuring that their safety will not be jeopardized if they plan to invest in these cars. A lot of the doubt stems from the car’s ability to drive safely regardless of unplanned or sudden changes in either road or driving conditions. Some of the key questions that will need to be addressed are: will the car’s sensors recognize sudden movements made by people, bicyclists, etc. and efficiently use its braking system to either make a sudden stop or be fast enough to maneuver around them? Will the car be able to recognize construction zones or other road hazards that may not necessarily show up on their GPS software? Will the car’s autonomous features enable the car to drive safely in stop-and-go traffic? According to an MIT Technology Review article, Google’s cars can handle some, but not all objects that do not appear in their mapping. As an example, if a new stop light appeared overnight, the car would be able to visibly detect that it’s there, but not abide to it unless their mapping software was being continuously updated. Additionally, the article cautions that “Pedestrians are detected simply as moving, column-shaped blurs of
The user simply provides an origin and destination before requesting an optimal route. Google Maps identifies this optimal route based on the fastest travel times, up-to-date traffic and road closure information, and user define constraints (e.g. avoid highways and tolls). Google displays the result without revealing details of their sophisticated data collection, model representation, and optimization routine. At this point and at various points during their route, the user makes a choice either to follow the path that Google suggests or to use their favorite shortcut.
There has been a massive usage of computer networks and the internet over the years, people are trying to get connected and updated with what’s happening around the globe while on the go. It used to be televisions, radios and newspapers that would connect us to information and keeps us up dated but times have changed, we living in an information age now an era where information became easily accessible through publications and through the manipulation of information by computers and computer networks Google has become one of the dominating technological tools to help us have the privilege to information.
There are some special health situations that just deny certain people to drive a car therefor their mobility is in blocked in some sense, of course public transportation could be helpful but a car that is driven by itself would guarantee a dynamic life for this individuals allowing them to explore the joys of life under certain degree of independence and confidence.
