The critical lens I am going to be using for the book Divergent is the gender lens. The book divergent is about a girl named Tris, who has decided to betray her own faction and live in a different faction. When the kids in Chicago turn 16 they have to choose a faction to join during initiation. If they do not pass initiation then the live factionless which as also known as homeless. The Gov. is ran by the Abnegation faction. the abnegation faction is selfless so they want people who are not greedy to be in power for each faction. Erudite doesn't agree with Abnegation so they start out a giant war. The argument I am trying to argue is that this book goes against gender. The first reason I think that Divergent is going against gender is because, when reading through this book they treat girls completely different, the reason I say this is because they treat these teenage boys and girl very differently. The reason I am saying this is because when they are fighting the dauntless leader put Tris up against Peter in the ring. Now in reality you are NOT supposed to hit a girl but in this book it's all part of initiation. Dauntless is basically the police of the state so they have to fight one another wether its boy on boy, girl on girl, or boy on girl. …show more content…

The reason I am saying this because when the girls were going through initiation the boys and leaders had no respect for them they put them up against each other during fight, they ranked them on the same board, they basically gave the girls no lean-way. When they finally passed initiation the leaders had so much more respect for the ladies. Now, in reality most guys will never have respect for ladies.
