Do you think kids should be limited on screen time? Well, kids invest almost four hours daily watching TV and playing video games. Kids could be getting exercise for four more hours. Another reason is kids should get fresh air. In fact fresh air is better for you than the air you breathe indoors. Also, TV and video games are a waste of time. Many kids don't get their homework done for class, but they have time to play video games and waste their time. Two to five year olds should have no more than one hour of electronic time daily. Anymore than that can damage their eyes at a young age. Kids in the range of five to eighteen shouldn’t be on electronics for more than two hours daily. Children in this age range should socialize and actually talk
Imagine a teenage boy in his last year of high school being stressed out at school from too much homework and an important test coming in a few weeks. He’s been studying for months and can’t stop from being stressed from the test that will determine his future. He comes home and pulls out his tablet. This screen time allows him to calm himself from the stress at school. Who would deny the teen some time to calm down? I believe that teenagers should not have to limit their screen time because it allows for relaxation, amusement, and socialization.
One reason why a limit for screen time is not a good idea, is because for educational reasons. Children can develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills by playing computer games designed to develop these skills. Also, joining online clubs can help children practice using social media safely. This is for internet safety reasons as well
Screen time has numerous negative effects for children which can be putting them at a disadvantage later on in life. Parents are starting to rely on screens as a cheap and convenient
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children under the age of two years have no screen time, with the exception of video chatting. Children younger than two benefit from a hands-on learning approach, therefore, introducing them to a digital device takes away time they need to be socially interactive to develop their cognitive, language, motor, and social-emotional skills. By the age of two, and through the preschool aged years it is recommended that children have no more than 1 ½ hours of screen time per week, and that screen time should be monitored to ensure it is educational as well as age appropriate. There are even television channels and computer applications that are dedicated to creating educational, engaging, and enjoyable content for such young viewers, however, it should be noted that
Research shows that the majority of screen time has a negative effect on children of all ages. Children ranging from ages two to 11, on average, spend anywhere from 25 to 35 hours a week in front of the television, or other forms of screen time. At such young
Some people say they shouldn't allow kids be able to spend as much as time as they want on the tv or any other electronic device. I think that we should let the kids play on the devices and watch T.V whenever they wany but I don't think they should be able to sit on it all day because children in the United States have an average of 7.5 hours of screen time per day. Thats alot of screen time considering the American Acadmey of Pediatrics say that children older than 2 should only have 1-2 hours per day on screen time and younger they should have none.
Although both arguements seem reasonable I feel there should be a screen time limit for children. Being in front of a screen takes children away from human interaction. Children should be playing and using their imagination whether its inside or outside. In personal experiences, screen play takes a mental and physical toll on children. In my personal opinion there is no reason to have children in front of a screen for longer than an hour or two a day.
A park that used to be filled with kids is now filled with people of all ages. No, they’re not socializing or hanging out, they’re playing Pokemon Go. A research by Morgan Hampton showed that most children and teens spend 75% of their lives with their eyes on their screen. Students who unplugged their devices for 24 hours felt extremely lonely and didn't know how to fill their time. Give your kid a voice. If you’re wanting to limit technology time ask them about it, don't make it unfair. A researcher from Time Magazine says “They are familiar with kids who are game-addicts, textaholics, and Facebook freaks. Use the wisdom of your kids to help knit together a strategy to deal with media screens in your home,” says Ratner. Older kids who are
"It's Time to Let Go of Screen Fears". I can't help but be oppositional to this side of the argument. When it comes to the health of our society, we need to listen to people that can be trusted. That is why we can't ignore the advice of the American Academy of Pediatrics when they say the reccomended screen time for children is 1-2 hours. The growing number of different devices has been linked to a lower test scores and a decrease in kids' creativity that hasn't been seen in fifty years. Technology is one of the industries in this day in age that is always growing so we need to put a limit on how much screen time we're getting before it is too late.
First of all, screen time gives kids role models. Some news stories, TV shows, and video games give kids role models, which can benefit them since it will encourage them to engage in good behavior. In addition, the article "Media Benefits for Children and Teenagers" stated "For example, by observing good role models in the media." Although some people argue that there are too many negative role models in the media, the children should be responsible enough to know right from wrong. As you can see, this is one reason why screen time shouldn't be limited for teens.
Today screens are every where, at home, work, schools and even in your pocket. With technology all around us in a daily basis, we have to ask ourselves, does screen time mean a bad time for kids today.
Screen time is going to happen in a childs life weather it be monitored by the parent or not. I believe that its important for children to be physicaly active as well as mentaly. I somewhat agree that watching tv is not good for children, however if shows are designed to teach children I feel that it could be very benificial for the childs development. I feel that children should be allowed to play outside with proper safety and supervision to encourage real world development, but when they are inside they are most likely to have a screen in front of them. I think because of that fact, we should select content that aids in developing mental health. Such as parents playing video games with their children. I feel that parents playing video games
I can see with all the studies that have been done and why things are so unclear on what is best for kids. 7.5 hours a day is the average screen time that children spend. I feel that is way to much time wasted. The recommened time is 2 hours a day, which I feel is to little. I believe wiith all the technology these days, kids are in need of learning differently then they did 20 years ago.
Now of days all the little kids want to do is grab a phone or a tablet . Kids these days are getting an average of 7.5 hours of tv per day. Between 2011 and 2013 , children ages 8 and under doubled their useages of media devices. Younger children should be only allowed to watch 1-2 hours if that .
Critics today believe too much screen time takes a huge tole on todays children. In the passage "Screen Time Limits Are Vital for Children", they state, Children in the United States have an average of 7.5 hours of screen per day. this is despite long-standing guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics that children older than 2 years should be limited to 1-2 hours per day and even younger have no screen at all.
