Don 't get me started on the death penalty. I for one am against capital punishment, I think it is barbaric and cruel however I can understand why some may agree with the death penalty. Punishment by death. The sentence that someone be punished in this manner is a death sentence. The death penalty was first introduced in the eighteenth century B.C. Under the code of the death penalty twenty-five crimes were punishable by death.

These crimes included adultery and helping slaves escape. Remarkably murder was not one of the twenty-five crimes. The last executions in the United Kingdom were by hanging and took place in 1964. The death penalty was then abolished in all circumstances in 1998. I mean everyone agrees crime is bad and we need to stop it, this seems sensible and logical in every way, until we ask the question; do we need the death penalty to be ‘tough’ on crime?
