On September 26, 2016, the first of four debates was hosted by Hofstra University in New York. The debate was between Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican candidate Donald Trump. This was a much anticipated debate because it was not only the first of four, but it was the first time for divided America to pick a side and candidate that they could identify with after the primaries were over and we were left with these two options. These two candidates were asked questions by moderator Lester Holt, anchor of NBC Nightly News. In this essay I will go over the different topics that the moderator asked Clinton and Trump. Also, I will go explain the different rhetorical appeals and rhetorical strategies that were employed by the candidates; …show more content…
She claims that building the economy from top to bottom, raising incomes, helping small businesses, fair profit sharing, and paid family leave will be a great start in achieving prosperity. Her credibility came from being a government figure for the last thirty years. She was a Senator of New York and the Secretary of State during the Obama Administration. To evoke emotion in her audience and the viewers she brought up her granddaughter and how she wants to leave a great future for her. She also speaks about how logically we should be building our economy from top to bottom and help spreading the wealth. Donald Trump claims that he wants to achieve prosperity that manufacturing jobs need to be brought back into the United States. Trump’s credibility comes from being a business man and knowing how to make money and how to keep money in the US. He creates emotion with his rhetoric by explaining how the jobs are leaving the US and more and more Americans will be unemployed. Trump states that if they lower taxes on big companies in the US then they will more than likely bring their businesses back to the US and in turn it would allow for businesses to grow and
To keep the American tradition, President Obama signed an executive order requiring the loser of the Presidential election to leave the country. Obama stated "No Matter who that loser is".
Presidential nominee, Hillary Rodham Clinton, in a recent speech at a private fundraising event geared toward LGBT rights supporters, addressed her political opponent, Donald J. Trump and his supporters. The fundraiser was hosted by singer and actress, Barbra Streisand and her wealthy counterparts. The former Secretary of State argued that half of Donald Trump’s supporters can be put into a “basket of deplorable” and alluded that the other half are simply anti-government. Clinton supported her assertion by using logical fallacies by making hasty generalizations, faulty cause and effect, and bandwagon appeals. She also solidified her reasoning by stating, the supporters in the “basket of deplorable” are racists, sexists, xenophobic, and many
In this address Clinton uses a combination of all three to try to convince people of her being the right candidate for the job. Clinton’s rhetoric depends largely on the fact of her being relatable in comparison to the millionaire Trump who makes up the much envied American and criticized elite.
With the presidential election coming to a close, the campaigns of Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump are doing their best to attract voters now more than ever. The question is, who will be more successful? When analyzed in detail the Hilary Clinton campaign is appealing to their targeted audience in a way that makes her campaign more successful.
There are even more people engrossed in Trump's campaign as his contentious rhetoric is spreading and becoming exponentially obscene. His words foreshadow what he'd do if he were president. My teachers have said that they "don't care" if Trump becomes president because "he wouldn't have any power, thanks to Congress." Obviously, that's false, and as we all have seen, his divisive words have been significantly detrimental to unification in this country - and he's not even in charge. I can imagine how he'd undermine the liberties granted by this country from the start. As he gains more advocates for becoming President of the U.S.A, I'm sure everyone else will be even more surprised by what he has to say because he'll have more leeway for his
Conservative dignitaries, friends and Distinguished speakers of this year’s Conservative political action conference… I want to first say thank you for inviting me to speak… It is not only an honor but will be the highlight of my life to not only address some of our party’s rank and file but, to also place emphasis on our core principles and just what it is that makes us conservatives.
In my opinion, on the first 2016 Presidential Debate, Donald Trump and Secretary Hillary Clinton did have a fair debate about topics of the host’s, Lester Holt, choice. Hillary Clinton did, in fact, win. I think this for many reason but some in particular stand out to me.
Donald trump is a wedge in the coggs of progress. His inauguration proves that much. He masks divisiveness with a thin film of lies like a blanket draped over a bear. He lies openly and his mindless followers eat it all up like moths to a flame. Yet his style is clear and understandable and his message is clear, as well.
The presidential race for the 2016 election are in full effect. The candidates are campaigning hard and debating on various issues all for one thing the chance to become the next president of the United States. The reason people vote is to make a change. In order to win, they must convince voters that they are the best for the job, a part of a politician's job is to address issues. How do the candidates successfully do this? By the use of rhetoric, whether it be through oration, discourse debates, television, or radio political advertisements. A rhetorical situation has three components exigence, audience, constraints. According to Bitzer in order to have a rhetorical situation you must be addressing an issue, or else there is no 'situation'.
The second presidential debate was held at St. Louis, Missouri on a Sunday Evening, October 9th, 2016 at 9:00PM. The debate lasted until 10:30PM. The debate involved presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Just like the First Presidential Debate, this debate mainly focused on the candidates and their plans for the future. That night, there was a lot of opposition in opinion on both sides. It was a heated battle. Both Trump and Clinton battled it out with facts, some of which were both very strong and very weak.
Throughout the their article “Donald Trump, Abortion Foe, Eyes ‘Punishment’ for Women, Then Recants” by Matt Flegenhiemer and Maggie Haberman analyzed Donald Trump recent comments the he made recently about his feelings about abortion. While I wasn’t surprised to hear this come out of Donald Trump mouth, I was slightly surprised of the reaction that came out of it. Especially from his opposing candidates and anti abortion settlements. I did find it interesting that his opposing candidates had something to say against it, even though all of the Republican candidates are strongly pro-life. So that does that even make a case? Not really.
On September 26th, the world got a glimpse of who could potentially be the next U.S. head of state. This inside look came from the first of three presidential debates, moderated by NBC news anchor Lester Holt, in which the Democratic and Republican parties displayed their representative candidates. The Democratic choice is Hillary Clinton, the previous Secretary of State, Senator of New York, and First Lady to Bill Clinton. Her Republican opponent is business tycoon Donald Trump. Mr. Trump is well known for his vast real estate business spanning Europe, Asia, North and South America, his infamous reality T.V. show The Apprentice, and his notoriously unpredictable, larger-than-life personality in the media. However, Hillary Clinton proved to have a better economic stance for the upcoming presidency as she proposed fiscally responsible plans for improving the United States’ economy during the debate last week. Some of these plans include investments into the middle class, increasing the minimum wage, and waging a higher tax rate, which would be more proportional on the upper classes income.
One of her quotes from her speech is about Donald Trump. She says, “He wants us to fear the future and fear each other.” This statement speaks to our nations emotions because she wants to persuade us that Donald Trump is not a good fit four our country. To make this statement more logical she could have said “Donald Trump has proven himself not fit for our country because he has not paid personal taxes in years; he criticizes his own nation’s racial differences, and has on numerous occasions picked on women’s flaws and body types.” This statement now contains facts but can also appeal to emotion at the same time because it is supported by factual statements.
This is the time of the year that all Americans anticipate. Every 4 years the election time comes around. Candidates from different parties, representing different sides come together and fight for the job as being president. Before the actual Election Day, there are multiple debates between the elected candidates, which is normally one from the Republican Party and one from the Democratic Party. These are two of the largest parties that we have in the country. Each candidate gets around two minutes to answer the question that is being presented by the hosts. For this year’s presidential debate, we have Mr. Donald J Trump representing the Republican Party and Mrs. Hillary Clinton representing the Democratic Party. Each of them participated in a series of debates. First debate was on Monday, September 26, 2016, Second was on Sunday, October 9, 2016, and third was on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Overall from the first debate each had good points to present to the public. The second debate went quite well with the questions that were picked out and highly rated. Candidates answered the questions and presented their plan on how to improve certain areas, such as Economy, Obama care, Gun Control and abortion. The third debate was a little more organized, as each candidate prepares themselves, because this was the last debate that they will have before the Election Day. It was concerning that each candidate was not answering questions as efficiently; each did the same mistake of
Being a politician, every word in a speech must be said in a way to make a lasting impression on the crowd, and Clinton did just that. Her strong use of diction gave the nation a feeling of connection that many struggled to find earlier in her campaign. From the beginning of her speech, Clinton’s “we” language established a sense of unity
