James Nelson, “Legal Scholars: Why Congress Should Impeach Donald Trump”, a retired Justice of Montana supreme court makes a great argument as to how Donald Trump hasn’t been upholding the constitution and why he should be impeached. His article talks about how he is letting business interests interfere with his presidency. John Nichols, “Congressional Democrats are already warning Trump about Impeachment”, a novelist has a similar article on the same topic, but Nichols goes more in detail into the situation. Both Nelson and Nichols make valid points regarding Trumps behavior and what he’s done to potentially be impeached. Nichols does a great job pointing out the apparent issue, explaining to the reader that Trumps has been using his businesses around the world to influence a few of the policies he has been implementing, like the travel ban. He points out that Trump banned seven majority Muslim countries that he doesn’t have business deals in. Nelson on the other hand lists all other countries that Trump has done business in but doesn’t go into detail about how he uses his foreign influences to drive the policies he’s implementing. They both do a good job at addressing the fact that Trump is a businessman, one “with significant …show more content…
Although they both discuss the potential impeachment of Trump, their arguments are similar and but one is organized and presented a lot better than the other. “Legal Scholars: Why Congress Should Impeach Donald Trump” confuses the reader as to what the argument is. They jump from one topic to another as the article goes on. “Congressional Democrats are already warning Trump about Impeachment” is very well organized and supports the thesis in a number of different arguments. The arguments are all well supported in each paragraph of the Nichols article. Unlike Nelsons article, you could read the first sentence of a paragraph in Nichols article and know what the whole paragraph will be
The momentous tragedy that occurred on September 11th, 2001 has been engraved into the memories of United States citizens. What began as an ordinary day quickly evolved into an infamous horror story: thousands of lives had been taken and countless more had been devastated and ruined by the acts of terror. No one could have predicted what was to come, but no one would be able to escape the horrific and frightening news of commercial airplanes crashing into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. As the terrified country anxiously fretted about the future, President George W. Bush delivered a speech to address the nation in order to soothe the tensions and worry. In George W. Bush’s “9/11 Address to the Nation,” the terrorist attacks on the U.S. are confronted with a speech overflowing with rhetorical devices such as parallel structure, imagery, and various appeals in order to inspire and heal the country.
Since the recent impeachment of former President Donald Trump and dismissal of his entire cabinet. The world can finally breathe a sigh of relief. People of all races, genders, and sexualities gathered in the streets to celebrate this momentous event. The wall between the United States and Mexico has been destroyed, refugees and the LGBTQ community are no longer being oppressed and the electoral college has been abolished. Although these two years have been difficult. Filled with the feeling of impending doom that would eventually result to armageddon. We the people have resisted. Looking back and reflecting on these last years the world has finally come to the conclusion that electing Trump was a terrible idea...IT’S ABOUT TIME AMERICA!! It seems that Trump’s legacy can be summarized by the song “Good with God” by Old 97s ft. Brandi Carlile:
President Bill Clinton began an affair with Monica Lewinsky, a White House intern, in 1995. Later in 1998, when confronted with questions in regards to an affair with Monica Lewinsky, Clinton lied under oath in front of a grand jury. This, however, was not his first lapse in judgment as viewed by the Senate and Congress. The President and his wife, Hillary, found themselves involved in the Whitewater scandal beginning in 1978. In addition, during his campaign, Clinton was accused of draft dodging and rumors were spread in regards to his possible marriage infidelity. President Bill Clinton continued to find himself caught in the middle of scandals involving: Whitewater, Paula Jones, and most notably, Monica Lewinsky. The way Clinton handled
The government of the United States controls countless affairs in the world. They control everything from the currency to the court systems. Individuals are suppose to be able to trusting your government system, which has not been the case in many different circumstances. From Richard Nixon to the Whitewater scandal, the government has been everything but honest.
James Madison, in writing the US Constitution in 1787, intended that the system of checks and balances would separate the powers of the government branches and counter a “tyranny of the majority”. He carefully sought to distribute powers in a way that prevents any one faction from dominating. Under this system, the President can appoint federal judges, grant pardons, veto bills, propose laws, reject part of bills, etc. Equally, the Congress can override presidential veto, impeach the President, ratify treaties, etc., and the Courts can declare laws and executive orders unconstitutional. The contemporary system of checks and balances isn’t working as Madison intended as illustrated by the impeachment of President Clinton, the government
I was 17 at the time, I remember walking into the house and my parents were glued to the television. It was basically on every channel, the House of Representative voted to impeach President Bill Clinton. I remember the news asking people what they thought. The people they asked were divided. The older crowd was for his removal from office and the younger crowd was against it.
In 1999, for the second time in American history, the President of the United States was impeached. For those who don’t know, impeachment means to bring a government official to trial over accusations of illegal or shameful activity. President William Jefferson Clinton, more commonly known as Bill Clinton, took office in 1992 as a leader who had promised to bring a more honest and better government to the American people. This Democratic politician would have his two terms in office defined by self-inflicted shameful events. Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky would go down as one of the most talked about scandals known to man.
I believe Donald Trump is technically disobeying the Emoluments Clause of Article 1, Section 9 of the Constitution. The lawyers have strong case due to our President gaining revenue from other countries due to several businesses, which is a direct violation of the Clause, which states any person who holds an office of the United States may not, “. . . accept of any present, Emolument. . . from any King, Prince, or foreign State.” This clause was created by our original Framers to prevent foreign corruption, and internal corruption, such as a President attempting to gain more profits or a foreign ambassador receiving a present from another country's leader. President Trump’s may favor foreign countries over the U.S in order to gain more money.
A controversial issue that occurred not too long ago would be the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton. Clinton was impeached for having an inappropriate and unprofessional relationship with Monic Lewinski. Lewinski served as Clinton’s intern at The White House. The investigation to impeach Clinton began in October 1998 and he was impeached in December 1998. However, “Clinton was spared removal from office after the Senate voted to acquit him in February 1999” (Clinton Impeachment). The argument for Clinton needing to be impeached is that he lied in jury about his relationship status as well as he obstructed justice to cover up the relationship. The argument against Clinton needing to be impeached is the offense he is being charged with is not serious enough for impeachment and if he were removed from
On July 24, 1974, President Richard Nixon was to be presented before the judge for his Impeachment. 7 of his closest closet members were involved in a scandal at the Watergate Hotel leading to the blame for spying landing in Nixon’s lap. Audio recordings within the oval office of Nixon talking with family members, oval office conversations, conversations within other offices and phones within the executive branch had caught the attention of congress. These tapes would later become the lead evidence in congress’s case; however, Nixon believed he could use his executive privilege of subpoena to withhold the evidence. The question that came up next was: Could Richard Nixon use this privilege to avoid conviction or evidence in his trial, or would
Some of the reasons for so many people to take issue with Mr. Trump’s suggested ideas is because his policies are unconstitutional, are ineffective at stopping terrorism, and can not secure our borders from illegal aliens.
James B. Comey refers to the trade-offs as the evidence that will never be found by law enforcement due to Fourth Amendment restrictions. He makes emphasis in how important it is for society that their Four Amendment rights be respected. Evidence obtained by law enforcement during a Fourth Amendment search or seizure might never be useful because it would constitute to a violation of privacy rights, therefore, it would be refused in court. There have been, however, exceptions to the rule. Sometimes even without a warrant, police have been able to obtain additional evidence, depending the circumstance. Coney’s main point is that with the increase of cyber-threats, those who belong to law enforcement will struggle to perform their jobs, due to
Hillary Clinton her self, claimed that President Trump committed crimes of treason by colluding with
Donald Trump is racist, sexist, and he religiously discriminates. Furthermore, Donald Trump should have considered examining the constitution prior for running for the presidential election since many of his proposed ideas would be unconstitutional. The comments he has made toward other religions and races is mind boggling, and the only way he gets around it is by deceiving people and lying. A few people like some of the ideas Trump has proposed, but when they look at him from a distance he is a liar who would not benefit America. Furthermore, only someone with total ignorance could stand behind and vote for a person that is racist, and sexist. The framers of the constitution would look down on Trump because it clearly states that everyone
The impeachment trial of President Clinton originated from a civil lawsuit filed in 1994 by Paula Jones. Jones alleged that in 1991 Governor Clinton asked a state trooper to bring her up to his room at Excelsior Hotel, where she alleged he dropped his trousers and asked her to "kiss it" (Chronology of the Paula Jones Case, BBC, January, 1998). The case made it to the Supreme Court because of the President's request to delay the trial until the end of his term. The Supreme Court ruled that the trial could proceed, and Jones' lawyers began their investigation. On December 5, 1997, "Jones' lawyers submitted a list of women that they would like to depose.
