A Japanese invasion that same year caused his forces to leave that country. a year after that he made many successful offensive operations against the Japanese military in that region.in 1945 president Harry S. Truman appointed MacArthur supreme allied commander. For the next six years he stayed in japan to command the occupation forces. Americans started to understand that MacArthur’s recommendations might have led to a massively expanded war in
George S. Patton was one of the most highly regarded and successful military leaders in the history of the United States. His military career spanned from the expedition into Mexico throughout WWII. His ability to inspire his troops with his profane filled speeches and his position of always leading from the front gained him vast popularity and fame. Many political leaders considered him too controversial and intemperate at times. This reputation often overshadowed his determination and success as a commander. His bravery and many contributions to several of America’s war efforts has established him as one of the greats in American military history.
President Eisenhower was the greatest president in United States history because he instilled firsthand his experiences from times of war and times of peace, to increase the government’s power during his presidential term and years to follow. He was a well-established military general during many United States campaigns, before he took office as president of the United States. The most notable campaign he took part in was World War II, where he was the Supreme Allied Commander of European Forces and held the highest rank a United States officer can obtain, 5-Star General. He was one of nine generals to ever hold the rank of 5-Star General, which greatly gave him an advantage when he later ran for president. But he also used the side of
General MacArthur was the leader of the allied forces in the pacific southwest during the duration of WWII. When the Korean War broke out and North Korea invaded South Korea he was assigned commander of the United States Forces. While he was in charge during the war some say he was a genius for his defeats. “As U.S. and United Nations forces turned the tide of battle in Korea, MacArthur argued for a policy of pushing into North Korea to completely defeat the communist forces. Truman went along with this plan, but worried that the communist government of the People’s Republic of China might take the invasion as a hostile act and intervene in the conflict ("Truman Relieves MacArthur,")”. However, his victories were short lived once China entered the war, causing him to withdraw his troops from North Korea. By April 1951 the military was stable but General MacArthur could not keep his opinions to
For a united nation to prosper, its people must overcome obstacles and take on numerous responsibilities. Throughout our lives, there are problems occurring continually in our world related to war and combat. During these times of hardship, we must remind ourselves to persevere and continue to defend the country. Douglas MacArthur was a US soldier, born in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA. In World War 1 he commanded a brigade in combat in France (1918), where he earned a reputation for bravery (wounded three times) as well as foppery - he carried a muffler and a riding crop into the line, but not a helmet or a gas mask. After serving as the superintendent of West Point (1919–22), he completed his second tour of duty in the Philippines.
In 1981, a time that was recovering and healing from the Vietnam War, Ronald Reagan was elected president and gave his first Inaugural address. Despite what many Inaugural addresses tend to do, Reagan decided to not just talk about his plans for the country, but take the country by the reins and lead it triumphantly into conservatism. Ronald Reagan’s first Inauguration address, evoked and pointed out that the United States’ greatest weapon is far from a gun, but rather “Freedom” (Woolley). Through the use of allusion and repetition, along with sudden pauses and nostalgic patriotism over words to demonstrate love for fallen heros, Reagan secured many future voters and motivated many citizens to come together and unite as Americans to reveal the hero that is within us all (Brockway).
In 1941, President Roosevelt recruited him to return to his duty in the US army and he was appointed as the Commander of US Army Forces in the Far East to defend Philippine against the Japanese attacks. He was unable to protect Philippines and he was directed to escape to Australia, where he became the supreme commander of Southwest Pacific theatre. Unhappy with his defeat in the Philippines, he began to plan his counterattacks towards Japan and slowly took over all of New Guinea, the Admiralties, western New Britain, and Morotai. Japanese surrendered in 1945 and he was sent to Japan to occupy it until 1951. The Korean War broke out in 1950 and he was appointed as the supreme commander of the Allied Powers. However, in 1951, President Truman and General Macarthur had conflicting policies for Korea and the President relieved him from his duties. In April 1951, he gave his farewell speech to the Congress (Gale Research).

He was a democrat and the only president to be elected four times into office even though he was unable to serve his full terms; he was still able restore the economy from The Great Depression with his New Deal domestic policies. The New Deal named the four important things to America during those times which were relief, recovery and reform. Establishing programs such as the Public Works Administration and Social Security which helped Americans back to work and help give aid to elderly people. FDR would also face other problems during his presidency such as pressure to get involved in World War II. Many actions would cause America’s involvement in World War II such as the Japanese assault on Pearl Harbor, USS Panay and Germany’s unrestricted use of submarine warfare.
How can one determine if a speech is admirable? The speeches “Why I Love a Country that Once Betrayed Me” given by George Takei, and “A Time for Choosing” given by Ronald Reagan, can aid in answering that question. Ronald Reagan’s speech deals with controversial topics in our government, poverty, and taxes. Takei’s speech pertains to how Japanese Americans, including him, were imprisoned because of WWI, and despite being prisoners previously when called to fight, they volunteered for their country they loved. Ronald Reagan's speech is more compelling because the rhetorical techniques show more variety and intelligence than George Takei’s points which tend to be more straightforward.
