While most cities have much in common, each location tries to put a stamp on itself that makes it unique. Because of their large populations, all cities offer their own sites and activities. Indianapolis, the capital of Indiana, is no different from any other metropolitan area. When visiting Indianapolis, tourists can take advantage of professional sporting events, prestigious museums, and affordable family activities. Indianapolis offers a number of professional sports teams and opportunities to see top-level professional racing. The city’s professional basketball teams, the WNBA’s Indiana Fever and the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, host games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse downtown. Just down the street is Lucas Oil Stadium, home of The Indianapolis Colts, who compete in the NFL (Visit Indy). Downtown Indianapolis is the home of several museums, including the Indiana State Museum, The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, The Colonel Eli Lilly Civil War Museum, The Indiana Historical Society, The National Art Museum of Sport, and the NCAA Hall of Champions (Visit Indy). Moving away from downtown, tourists can discover The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, which is the world’s largest children’s museum. Over one million visitors work their way through the five different levels of this destination (Children’s Museum). In addition to hosting races, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway features a museum in the track’s infield.
