Gangsta rap poineer Andre Romelle Young or Dr.Dre as he is better known as, was born on February 18th, 1965. As an enthusiastic music fan from the start, Dre started working as a DJ in his teens. His first major success came with the rap group N.W.A. and he later co-founded Death Row Records in 1991. In 1992 his first solo album, The Chronic, became a huge hit. Dre started up Aftermath Entertainment in 1996 and signed Eminem and 50 cent to his label. Today Eminem is maybe the most recognisable name in hip-hop, some even call him a rap god. He eventually co-founded the company Beats Electronics with Jimmy lovine, and made milllions on its 2014 sale to Apple. Dr.Dre is perhaps one of those who have influenced rap …show more content…

He produced many of the tracks from Ruthless Records, a venture he started with Eazy-E.
With Marion “Suge” Knight, Dre co-founded Death Row Records in 1991 and worked an Snoop Dogg´s debut album with Tupac Shakur(2pac).
In 1996 Dre left Death Row Records, and thus escaping from the troublesome west coast. There was an east coast rap feud that arose mostly between 2pac and Biggie Smalls, which led to both of their death´s. Dre started his own label, Aftermath Entertainment and signed with Eminem and 50 cent, who was Aftermath´s biggest successes. Dre was criticised for signing with white rapper Eminem, but he proved them very wrong. Eminem is now one of the most successful rappers ever. Dre has produced several of Eminem´s hit albums.

Dre hasn´t just rapped about violence and reckless behaviour. He has lived some of his lyrics, experiencing numerous scrapes with the law. In 1991 he hit TV host Denise Bannes and faced assault charges, but it was settled out of court. He has been arrested for battery of a police officer and in 1994 he led the police on a high speed chase in a Ferrari while intoxicated, he was sentenced to several months in jail.
