Within act one, Hamlet's encounter with his father's ghost mentions that his father was killed by Claudius, and urges Hamlet to avenge his father. In order to do so, Hamlet recruits the help of his loyal companions, Marcellus and Horatio, and puts on a facade of insanity. As a result, the dramatic irony of this information creates many interesting conflicts and gives the audience an active role within the story.
