A drug holiday or “structured treatment interruption” is a “conscious, deliberate suspension of medication, usually for a short time” (Manos, n.d.). Drug holidays are commonly used with stimulants or other drugs that can cause undesirable side effects. With stimulant use, medications often used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), drug holidays are often used on weekends, vacations, or for a week every couple of months (Manos, n.d.). There are many reasons that drug holidays are used or considered. The believed benefits include providing evidence that the medication is needed or useful, temporary relief from undesirable side effects, or limitation of drug use (Manos, n.d.). The most commonly reported adverse side effects of stimulant use is appetite suppression and insomnia (Manos, n.d.).

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors can negatively affect one’s sexual arousal and are sometimes recommended by health care providers to avoid on days that an individual might have sexual activity (Harvard Medical School, 2016). Bisphosphonates have associated risk of femur fracture when taken long-term (Harvard Medical School, 2016). Drug holidays for carbidopa and levodopa were formerly recommended to decrease sided effects associated with the medication (Harvard Medical School, 2016). However, abrupt cessation of these drugs is no longer supported due fever, altered mental status, and even death when suspended (Harvard Medical School,
Many doctors, pharmacists, biochemists and scientific researchers have engaged tremendous efforts to providing drugs and supplements that would help overcome sexual malfunction and ill-health.

Summary: This article covers a wide variety of factors that result from the over abundant use of prescription stimulants on campuses around the United States. This includes the consequences of taking said drugs, specifically the medical, mental, and academic effects of stimulants. The author also points out four main reasons behind stimulant use on campuses. The first being the pressure of college life. Many students come into college thinking that it will be simple like high

Stimulants are the common type of medication perscribed as treatment. The stimulants include drugs such as Ritalin, Adderall, and Dexedrine. These medications have the most research to back up the fact that they are working as treatment. The stimulants are supposed to work by increasing levels of dopamine in the brain. (Robinson. L, Smith. M, Segal. J, 2016,) say "Dopamine is a neurotransmitter associated with motivation, pleasure, attention and movement." These stimulants boost concentration and focus, and reduce hyperactivity. There are short-acting and long-acting stimulants used as treatment. Short-acting are used for several hours and must be taken 2-3 times a day. Long-acting also called extended release last 8-12 hours, and are taken once a day. Stimulant medications have side effects of course. Next, the authors of this article take a look at the saftey concerns of taking stimulant medications Patients taking these medications may have personality changes, become less talkative, or may seem withdrawn. These stimulants raise blood pressure, and heart rate so, there are many dangers of taking these medications for long
Anyone who has purchased prescription medications has probably wondered why they cost so much, and rightfully so. Medication prices in the United States have been on a steady increase for decades, however, prices have been drastically increasing as of recent. Pharmaceutical companies have tried to justify these price increases due to the demand, the high cost of research, and the high costs of development and approval. Notwithstanding, the extent to which the prices have increased is not justifiable. Americans should be against these high medication prices and take action because pharmaceutical companies are taking advantage of our health care system in order to capitalize from the sick. In order shed some light on this issue, we must examine the magnitude, scope, and consequences of these rises in price.
When used in school and work it allows them to concentrate and focus on what should be done. For instance Jenny Pearcy a user of Adderall for several years said, “I use to be a troubled student. I use to have consent run-ins with the law. Things never came easy to me and far too often they never came at all. Adderall was like putting on a pair of glasses worn by Superman. Suddenly everything became focused and organized.” However there are several side effects of this drug such as severe weight loss and nausea. Constant headaches and sleeplessness have also been noted. Heart palpitations, cardiac arrhythmia, blood pressure and pulse changes are serious heath risks that can occur using Adderall. Adderall changes the personality of the person making them very bland. Most of the side effects are not hard to cope since the benefits are so high but the question of is the drug worth it and could I get this far without constantly arises from its patients.

As well as additional monitoring of EPI, SC was being stabilized through medications. This includes bupropion (Wellbutrin), which is also a smoking cessation aid and a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI), desipramine (norpramin), which is also prescribed for nerve pain, maprotiline (Ludiomil), mirtazapine (Remeron), and trazodone (Desyrel), which is also used as a sedative. Various surveys report that 8% to 35% of college students say they gave used stimulant pills to help them in school (Connor, 2011, p. 14-18). One problem with such stimulant drugs is that they can be addictive. The feeling a person gets on these stimulants is that similar to a seven hour long caffeine rush. The individual becomes addicted to this feeling and wants it all the time. This can result in the abuse of these medicines. Another problem is that they are easy to obtain. Doctors are quick to give a patient who shows symptoms of ADHD one of these stimulants without realizing the potential downfalls of them. Stimulants such as Adderall and Vyvanse can cause a wide range of side effects including, insomnia, aggression, worsened anxiety, mood and behavior changes, twitching, and shaking (Connor, 2011, p. 14-18). Side effects can be more serious in some, causing a sudden increase in blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, seizures, and in the worst cases, death (Connor, 2011, p. 14-18). Drugs this dangerous should not be prescribed as easily as they are. Patients should have to go through a full physical and mental examination before taking a drug that can be this harmful.
Often, after being on a medication for so long, people can become dependent on them later in life and not know how to function properly without them. For example, a person that is prescribed Adderall may become dependent on it to focus and stay awake in school or work and without it their productivity and motivation levels may plummet. This could potentially be part of the reason why we see so much of an abuse of it in schools and high stress work environments; people are reliant on it and feel they need it to remain competitive.
