For as long as I have though about a career I have always wanted to help people, more specifically children. As a young child I was diagnosed with dyslexia I know first hand what it is like to struggle to feel equal to ones peers. I have always been drawn toward helping children learn especially those who had difficulties in high school I would volunteer at our school daycare and would spend most on my time with children who were struggling with their ABC's or not getting along with the other student because of behavioral problems I have been fortunate enough to have had three semester of lab experience while working on my bachelors of science in psychology at the university of southern Mississippi. In this lab my task were to run the experiment

For a long time, dyslexia has been causing many humans, especially children, to have learning difficulties. The World Federation of Neurologists define dyslexia as, "a disorder in children who, despite conventional classroom experience, fail to attain the language skills of reading, writing, and spelling commensurate with their intellectual abilities" ("Dyslexia," 2013). Sometimes the letter m might look like w, and the number 3 might look like 8; dyslexia basically makes it harder for people to improve their language abilities. This is the behavior I wish to change because of the many negative impacts it has on people's literacy skills and lives. Many dyslexic children have considerable disadvantages while reading out loud or taking
When it comes to my career objectives, I am not completely sure on what I want to do. When I was in high school I set on that I was going to be a teacher because my mom is a teacher and I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Now that I changed my major to Human Services, I do not see myself working a classroom, but I know the population I still want to work with is children. I know that I want to work with children who are in need.
Research in the field of Dyslexia has grown twenty-five percent throughout the last few years. From recent studies, we have discovered new and improved ways to help people who are hindered by Dyslexia, even though we are still learning more about Dyslexia every day. Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that hinders the academic progress of over 40 million American students who struggle daily, and can be helped with accommodations. In order to help these 40 million students, we must acknowledge what is Dyslexia, recognize what it is like to be Dyslexic, and explore what accommodations should be given to those who need it.
the career i have picked is teaching i want to teach because i love being in the room with kids i can relate to i enjoy helping them and i like the challenge of teaching them.in teaching there is alot of stuff u have to do to be come one to be a good one here are some examples. (1) you have to learn from your students as well as they learn from you. (2) you have to respect them and they will respect you. Strength is said to be the quality or state of being strong-willed. The lack of state or condition can be portrayed as weakness. Comparing myself to the definition of a normal persons concept of strength and weakness is impossible, because of what has been embedded in my head confederated me to view and value my weakness as a strength.
When one hears the word dyslexia one may find them a slow learner or stupid. Students with dyslexia can go through their whole academic life not knowing they have it. Throughout students’ academic life they are taught one way to learn. It’s crazy to think one out of every ten students will deal with dyslexia. When one labels someone with dyslexia as stupid, one may feel misunderstood. I can relate with students that have dyslexia, I hate how I felt being called different or how I don’t learn correctly like other people.
Things happen sometimes in an unexpected way to bring the best out in ourselves. I know that I am a part of the millions of people that have dyslexia but every dyslexia is different because it affects people differently and the effect it had on me was that it gave me a lot of anxiety and uncertainty of success. Fortunately I was diagnosed with the dyslexia in the second grade and had time and faith to overcome the obstacles that dyslexia brought into my life.
Question 1: The main idea of this selection is to understand the effect of the disability called dyslexia.
I have been diagnosed with dyslexia tendencies. School has never been easy for me, I have always had to work hard at my studies. My disability has made me a better person. Instead of giving up, and saying I can’t do this I just work that much harder. I am proud of the GPA I have maintained through my High School Career, it shows that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. With that being said, test taking is not my strong area and continues to be an obstacle, my ACT score reflects that. I was obviously disappointed in my ACT test results, and decided to take the test a second time. I spent a lot of time preparing again and got the exact same score, again being disappointed with the results. I feel the ACT score is not a direct
Perhaps the most significant challenge that I have faced in my academic career has been my Dyslexia. I found out about this learning disability when I was young and one of my teachers noticed my test scores were not matching up with my skill level and when I was given a written test and a verbal test I preformed significantly better in the verbal test, which they said was due to the Dyslexia making it difficult for me to write down information that I already knew. After they noticed this I spent roughly five years in special education classes trying to learn how to overcome this disability. After those five years I was able to prove to the administration that I had overcome my disability to an extent where they took me out of the special education
This strategy usually takes place when the dyslexic child shows an indication of becoming more self-assured at reading aloud. In this step teachers or parents can start to read more quietly, therefore permitting the child to take the lead, or remain quiet. These techniques can be done progressively, allowing the dyslexic building up his/her self-confidence when reading (Reid, 2011, 63).
According to Endler & Parker (1999), task, emotional and avoidance plays a big role in coping.
One learning experience I had to overcome was the learning disable, Dyslexia. When I started elementary school, my teachers saw I was struggling with reading. They were not too concerned about my reading level because all students start kindergarten at different levels. As I began second grade, my mother would help me with my homework and would realize that I could not read the math problems. Math was always my strong content area when it came to school work so for me to not be able to do the problem surprised my mother. My mother would then start reading the problems to me and I was able to do the math problem without struggling. Once this experience happened, I started to get tested
Someday I want to use my passion for knowledge in my career. I want to help others learn and further my own knowledge. The only career I can think of for myself that would do this is teaching. I want to teach kids that it's okay to enjoy learning. They need to know that knowledge is a strength, and that if it's used right, it can actually be
