Obesity is an increasing problem in the United States, in which “the incidence of obesity among adults in the United States increased by 50% per decade throughout the 1980s and 1990s” (Morrow, Heesh, Dinger, Hull, Kneehans, and Fields, 2016). The current statistics that describes college students as overweight and obese is overwhelming since “38.5%” (Silvestri, and Bonis, 2009) of students are in this category.

Many people ask me what are my plans after high school? Luckily, I have come to the decision to be in the military and attend a postsecondary education and major in Nursing with the intention of becoming a Pediatrician or becoming an Architect.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This quote from Nelson Mandela always clicked with me, because while many things can change the world, education is always at the root of it. The Ottawa County Early College program is an opportunity for me to practice with this essential tool. I feel that I am a good fit for the program because I have passion for my studies, am proactive in them, and I flourish under challenge. This amazing program excites me because it will help me to achieve my overall goal for my education; to positively impact the world. Royalton High School follows a 7 period day schedule, 50 minutes class periods, typically 5 days a week beginning at 8:15am and ending at 3:22pm. A regularly scheduled day consists of seven four minute passing periods and a 15 minute homeroom at the end of the day. Homeroom is not considered as a scheduled class, and even though it is not required, it is still beneficial to many students. The sole purpose of homeroom is to inform students of extracurricular activities, scholarships and college visits, the announcements, and reduce class absences.

Early College High School at Delaware State University is a place to save time and money, and earn up to at least 60 college credits in high school. If I were to describe ECHS in one sentence, I would say that they move very quickly, but are very helpful. Although this school is very helpful there is a downfall, that downfall is that they are unorganized. One thing that made my 9th grade year here at The Early College High School at Delaware State University more smoothly was that some of my teachers had a sense of humor which made the environment feel a lot more positive and it made me feel comfortable that this school isn’t severely strict. Attending Cross Creek Early College High School is interesting to me because I will be able to complete high school and some college courses at the same time. I have always dreamed of going to college and this is school will allow me to get a head start on my goals and ambitions. My goal is to be the first person in my family to attend and graduate from college with a bachelor’s degree. Here you need to explain your career goal or what you want to major in. It is my belief that Cross Creek Early College will provide me with the support to reach this goal and to let my other family members know that a college degree will allow me to be a productive citizen.

Throughout our lives, we will endure plenty of mistakes and take ownership of situations we did not mean to create. When asking the question ‘If you were to get one do-over in life, what would it be and why?’, my answer would be to attend an early college high school.

Freshman 101 is a class adapted from the parrot program (Fay & Medway, 2006, p. 226). The parrot program was designed for college students at Cornell University. Freshman 101 is the first of its kind in the state of South Carolina and the first to extend Parrot’s college program to high school freshmen (p. 226). Each two-hour intervention class contained 25 to 30 freshmen students. The objectives of the class were to have participants understand the definition of acquaintance rape and the frequency that it takes place along with South Carolina’s laws regarding rape (p. 226). Junior High is a scary thought. You are little and going to school with the big kids. It wasn’t to bad after I got used to it.

Freedom is all about being independent and making your own choices and decisions. Freedom is about not having to listen to other people and being able to do what you want and when you want to. With making all these choices on your own requires responsibility. Responsibility and freedom go hand in hand with each other.

County Prep high school has always had my interest. With all it has to offer, I’ve decided to make it my high school of choice for several reasons. There are things like the extracurricular activities they offer, the amount of AP courses they have. They are also offering vocational programs and LEAP courses. We all regret some of the choices we’ve had in the beginning of our high school journey. Since we can’t go back and change them, we can always give advice to the incoming freshman who may need our advice. Coming from middle school can be a hard transition because there are so many new things to learn. New students will face a new campus, teachers, friends, and overall a new way of life. I believe that freshman students who struggle to adapt into high school can lead to poor grades, peer pressure, and losing focus of long term goals. Here are some suggestions to help incoming freshman have a successful high school experience.

Being a freshman in College could be troublesome for others. Some find it easy and breeze through college; some takes time to find their comfort zone. A student must be able to know their positive and negative aspects of everyday task throughout College. Responsibility, motivation, and knowing the benefits and drawbacks are some of the qualities that a student must possess in order to be successful in College.

Being a sophmore in Highschool, I need to think about my future. I don’t have a lot of time left, and taking these high level classes have started to help me accurately prepare for College. After reading “High School to College Transition, Part Two. Academic Expectations,” by Brian Harke, I was challenged to answer the questions that were given on the end accurately, in order to test how I would actually stand in College.

I have always wanted to be a lawyer. I will have to go to Harvard University first in order to get my Undergraduate and Masters degree. I wanted to attend Law school to achieve this dream of mine to be Successful in life also I have always loved to debate and that’s what I can do when I get a good paying Lawyer job. I want to go to Harvard University, that means I have to get a job, than take my S.A.T test in high school, and I will have to get at least 3 scholarships in order to attend my dream school for 4 years. Once I attend Harvard I shall work on getting my Masters and Undergraduate degree then I will attend Law school. The cost of my Undergraduates tuition will be about $46,340 buts that’s not including the textbooks, now my textbooks for Law school will cost me $46,240.
