“Please, would you look at me? I am an old man, and the only thing I can do is collect cans and bottles to help keep food on my table, and I have no reason to go up there. Is there anything else I can do?” Ernest spoke so convincingly the officer believed him. Handing him a card, he said, “If we have any more questions, we will return. If you remember anything, please call us.” Convinced, regardless of what the neighbors had said, Mr. Cassidy knew nothing about the mountainside, the officer thanked him and went to his car. Ernest grabbed his keys, went out the back door, got his truck, and drove around the neighborhood to make sure no one was following him. While driving to his friend’s office, he kept thinking about the many animals they had rescued through the years and refused to feel guilty about what they did. Arriving at the hospital, he rushed into the building and down the hallway to his friend’s office, calling his name. …show more content…
“What is wrong with you,” Don asked, knowing something must be drastically wrong. “We have some major problems on the project. Do you know if the guys are still here?” Picking up the phone, Don said, “I’m sure they are, but let me check, Larry, please, come to my office? Ernest is here.” “Sure, bring them with you,” he said and looked at Ernest. “They will be here in a few minutes.” “That’s great, I need to talk with them,” Ernest said and walked around the room wringing his hands. “What is wrong?” Don asked again, but Ernest ignored him and continued walking the floor. After a few minutes, Larry and his friends entered the office, “What’s going on with you?” He asked when he saw Ernest. “What’s the problem?” Frank asked, “You look as if you lost your best
“Excuse me mam but I would like to explain what happened tonight and apologize for the behavior of one of my co-workers.” said officer James
Isaac’s body heated from the embarrassment. “I kind of forgot to. What were you trying to tell me?”
The officer said, “Well, you two did the right thing. Thanks for helping, I am sure those two are grateful for all you
“Oh yeah. Do you really want to know what you did wrong?” Don mysteriously asked.
“I’m sorry,”” Charlie said, pulling Elliott closer to her, “I didn’t realize we were missing.”
“Yeah, hello. Who is this?” My voice was rough and scratchy from the early morning. “Oh hey Charlie, where? Oakwood Meadows, got it, I’ll call up Ethan and we’ll be down there in a few. You can fill us in when we get there. Bye.”
"A fine representation of the Marching Knights you are!" he yelled. I must have missed the meeting that decided nothing cordial will be said by, and no questions will be asked of, an officer of the law. The officer's eyes widened and he yelled, "You leave my family out of this!" I guess that was his way of saying yes.
“I didn’t come to make a report. I came to have a discussion with you about how things are going to work around here,” he said stepping further into the room.
“All right. Let’s check on … “I wanted to say ‘check on Dave’ but stopped it because he just entered the room and went to the sink to wash his hands. His face was still calm, no sign of tiring after loading Lizzy’s stuffs.
"Certainly". Mr. Martin said "I shall explain the whole situation to him. I know that he will understand".
Leaning his bike against the fence, he went up the steps and knocked on the door several times. Opening the door, Ernest asked,“What’s wrong with you? What happened to your head? Why is it bleeding?”
“What are you trying to say? Why didn’t you tell me that before?” Ernest asked and sat down to wait until his friend finished talking.
“W-What are you guys doin' here?” I asked them while practically choking back a sob that had snuck up on me.
“Yeah he’s with me.” Malessica said. “He protected me from the gunman, but we need to get home. I have to talk to dad now.”
"Carl where were you? What's going on?" She nagged with the same questions a few times as Carl remained silent.
