Easter 1999: The Day I Almost Lost Everything
The vibrant sun was shining its warmth upon the green, wet grass. There were puddles of water everywhere due to the past night’s rainfall. I was thirteen years old, short, and chubby at the time, with strawberry-blond hair and blue eyes. I was wearing a denim skirt and a blue t-shirt, which had a cute little bow at the top. My mom, with her curly red hair, blue eyes, and a constant smile that always lit up a room, came into my bedroom, which was purple with butterfly lights. She asked, “Are you ready to go honey?”
I said, “Yes,” excitedly, as I loved Easter at my grandparent’s house. As my mom and I locked the black doors of our white house, we were greeted by my father, a big

I saw the white medium-sized car, and I knew it was not going to stop. I screamed, but inside I knew it was too late to do anything. The impact was sudden, even though I saw it coming. We t-boned the car and I heard the crunch of metal and the screech of our truck tires trying to slow down. Due to the high speed of 55 miles per hour that we had been traveling, we flipped over this tiny white car and went rolling. At the moment of impact, I felt my body lift as I flew forward. At the time I felt a bit of a headache, but had no knowledge that my head had gone through the very window I had closed seconds before. I closed my eyes tight, somehow believing if I did I would wake up and the current events would all be a dream.
The truck rolled. As we rolled I kept my eyes closed tight, and I realized that I felt no pain and that was scary to me. We rolled five times until we landed upright in the ditch. When the car stopped I opened my eyes and I jumped out of the truck. It no longer looked brand new. The glossy red truck was crushed. The front end was pushed into the passenger seat. Broken glass was everywhere, not one window was left unbroken. I looked down shocked by the presence of blood all over my navy t-shirt, denim skirt, and arms. It looked like I had just come out of a horror movie. My first thought was, “Oh my God, the blood is Mom’s.” But it would soon become apparent that the blood was mine. I realized I felt a warm sensation
I unbuckled and went to my passenger door, I pulled the handle to open the door but it didn't work. I slammed my body against the door but it still wouldn't open. The flames getting bigger, the car filling with more smoke. I looked back into the back seat where all of my stuff that I had moved out of my summer college dorm just the night before was sitting there. I climbed to the back and got the back driver door opened and I crawled out. I could hear the man from the other car screaming in anger. “What do you think you’re doing?” He said “Didn’t you see my blinker?” I smelled the smoke from the car. The crackling from the car and hearing other people calling nine-one -one. I pulled my phone out and called my mother. She answered so calmly like I just needed directions. I said “Mom I had a wreck”. She then began to get concerned and ask me what had happened. I looked at the car to describe exactly how it was but by this time the flames were to the back doors. I told her “Mom the car is on fire!” She told me that I need to calm down and listen carefully. She told me you need to get your license and registration out of the car so you can give them to the
My brother kept on crying as I pulled him closer into my arms, listening to the sirens blasting the in distance. As the ambulance pulled up, I couldn’t move. My body was frozen holding my brother watching the paramedics pull my mom from the car. I tried to call out for her, but nothing came out. They worked quickly strapping her to a gurney and whisking her off into the distance. Through the fog, I watched the ambulance until I could no longer see the lights. It was then realized that my mother was gone, and we were all alone. As a policeman approached us he got down on one knee to be face to face with me.
I woke up and rustled all my things together and jetted down stairs. I see my mom across the room eating her favorite cereal, Lucky Charms. I slugged around the kitchen still half-awake trying to find a bowl, cereal, and milk. Then I heard a whistle and realized she had my breakfast ready on the table. I sat across from her on the table. The scent of perfume hit my nose, it smelled fruity. Her hair was combed back into a sleek bun. She was wearing a formal white shirt and a black skirt and some heels. I slurped the last of the milk as she was almost out the door. I walked outside and ran to the car. I opened the door and got inside. It was 7:59 am.
I heard myself scream. Crash. Glass from the back window flies forward in slow motion, it looked like snow. Jolted forward, I hit my head and
As we flew through the air, in the moment, it was all slow motion. I blacked out for a split second, then opened my eyes, as I was in midair, and I slammed my head on the rough, rocky ground. My head felt like it had cracked open.
I decided to sit in the front as the navigator alongside with my father having possession of the wheel. As my father was driving, my sister was explaining why she is so excited to watch the movie. My sister then proclaimed, “It’s a movie that is based on the novel written by Suzanne Col--.” At that moment my sister stopped midway through her conversation, pointing with fear at a motorcyclist having blood gushing through his leg. The man glanced deep into my eyes, and I thought in my mind that will never happen to me. It was a tragedy when I observed the accident, and I was acting a bit too conceited. Two miles had passed the traffic from this accident was tremendous, a full stop. Luckily, my father spotted in the corner of his pupil that the nearest lane to the sidewalk was accessible, and nobody was driving on it surprisingly. We went ahead to move to the right, changing lanes carefully to reach the lane. At that instant, my dad then increased speed to 45 miles per hour to get to the theatre slightly quicker. As we were advancing through this lane at immense speed, a Toyota Civic with a brown tint then tried to change lanes. My dad was furious that he did not want the car to cut him off when it was his right of way. My dad then commented with a temper, “No!” Stomping on the gas pedal, he increased his acceleration to a rushing 75 miles per hour to prevent the car from cutting us off. The car continued to change lanes carelessly without a turn signal. At that moment, all I remembered was glass being shattered everywhere. My heart then stopped, and I was whiplashed with massive force having my head collide with the dashboard. Furthermore, all I saw was pitch black, and I did not know what was happening. After six minutes have passed, I regained some consciousness, shaking my head and trying to gain coordination with my eyes. All that I could hear is an old woman’s voice with
Then, I begin driving and heading home listening to some old summer songs and gazing at the scenic lively orange sunset. A red traffic light was ahead of me and the Silver Toyota Camry in front of me touched her breaks and so I followed. My car was almost on a complete stop and then I heard a thunderous noise, the airbags deployed, my body hit my steering wheel and my car hit the Camry in front of me. My heart begun aching and beating certainly fast. I just rested there trying to figure out what had happened. Then a tall thin male that appeared to in his early twenties arrived and removed me out of my car. He said, “I am so sorry for rear-ending your car, I wasn’t paying attention.” I was confused. I was furious. The police, fire truck,
I left the house quickly without saying goodbye so I could avoid the questions from my father, one of the boys piercing blue eyes caught my attention, Frances gave me a smile and wink and turned around to the other boy running up and catching her in his arms, I could tell I was left with the other young man that had caught my attention before, I looked over at the driveway to see a 1940's red corvet to match the colour of my lipstick. The young man held his hand out and guided me to the car. Frances switched the radio on and Judy Garland - Drummer Boy played through the radio in the gleaming moonlight as we drove off to the party. We arrived at the party, in the distance I could see a fire set on the beach with people surrounding it Frances and her new found lover ran off while I was left with "blue eyes". I turned around and gave a smile as I didnt know how to react in this awkward situation Frances had put me in. "And your name is?" the young man smirked, still daydreaming at the ash floating into the sky almost looking like a million fireflies to me. "Helloooo?" he says laughing at me, "Oh sorry! what did you
I was driving a truck and I had some people in the truck. It late at night and I was driving on an empty road out in the countryside. I tried to slow down the truck but it just kept speeding up. I didn’t tell anyone and kept stoic facial expression, but the passenger noticed that my leg was repeatedly hitting the brake and that the emergency brake was on. Everyone started to freak out, I stayed calm until someone from the back reach and turn the steering wheel with force. A soon as the truck hit the side of the road, I woke up.
I stayed inside my house because I felt my life would be in danger if I stepped out. Thirty minutes later, the big armor ambulance with Christmas colored sirens came in a rush. The Paramedics took the man on a stretcher and left to the hospital. One of my neighbors told me who got shot, and his name was Alex. I completely broke down and especially mentally. My knees were on the ground, my hands over my face, and my whole body was shivering. In my head the world was moving in slow motion and you can actually see my tear drop crash into the ground. How the tear scatters its particles on the dirt and instantly becomes soggy. Suddenly, I just woke up like I was having a terrible nightmare and adrenaline rushing through my body. I ran to my Honda Civic car like there was no tomorrow. Quickly I turned it on and press the gas pedal, leaving burn marks on the ground. I really felt like I was in a race because I was hitting around 70 MPH while passing street
I was fearful as the car seemed to be traveling much too fast to be considered safe. As our car passed over the crest of the hill and down towards a left curve, our tires lost traction, and the road became a glass plate. We slid left across the water, hydroplaning as we neared the shoulder. Our tires touched the gravel on the roadside, and our car spun down into the bowl like median with thick trees in our path. The car spun three times, then shuddered as the side was crumpled in by a large pine. The window to my right imploded as crystalline stars filled my vision and the world slowed down, then blacked
I breath between tears with at least some hope that my mother will still be alive when I hear a moan on the other side of the bed. I gasp when I see her face down I pick her up and I hold her in my arm and she coughs up blood and between little murmurs I catch her telling me that she loves me and that I need to be strong when all of sudden she stops breathing. I stop to sob because for some reason I forgot who to cry instead I held my mother. Sirens get louder and louder when the front door opens and a bunch of people come in repeating into their radios “two people down and one alive” and five people surrounded me ask me “are you okay” and I just look at them with confusion why would ask me that when it was clear that I had just lost both of my parents. They took my mother away and took me to and ambulance outside of my house. As I was close to the ambulance I look over at the police car and found this teenaged boy who look at me with fury that when I realized that had to be the boy that killed my parents everything went black and just felt my body drop to the
Halfway home I saw this woman crying over something ,but I was not close enough to see it. Being the nosey person I am I just had to go see what the big fuss was about. Not the best idea ,but I still went on with it. I walked up to the women the tapped on her shoulder; when she turned around I was frozen we fear. The object was no long unidentifiable ,nope it was as clear as day that the women had been crying over a dead guys body. I was petrified, I could not think, talk, or even begin to understand why this beautiful women was crying over this dead body. So I asked her, “umm..ma'am… are you ok?”,she did not answer the first time so I poked her again and asked “do you want me to call 911?” that's when she finally reacted. The women went ballistic on me and began to call me very mean names she jolited up and made a move as if she was going to come after me so I did what everyone would do...run. I ran till my legs gave out. I stopped when I realized I had no clues where I was and did not have my phone on me. My head was spinning I know that this is when I was going to die. I did not have it in me to keep on going; my feet were bleeding from these heels that I somehow still had on. I was just about to lose all my hope ,but then I saw bus stop and decided I needed to sit down and rest. I had not realized just how tired I was until I felt my eyelid flider
Boom! I heard a crash of a car. I looked up , I thought I was in shock for a minute just from the loud sound! Once I came back to earth I saw what had happened I just didn't know it. As if it was a video the incident played back in my mind. I saw a big medal dump truck turning the corner, as a red pickup truck stopped in the middle of the road the dump truck driver tried to cease ...but it's was too late. I heard a bash and then for just a second everything was silent .
It was a sunny morning in California,it was also my 15th birthday.I got out of bed and did my morning routine. I opened my closet to chose what I should where today, I found a dress that was white until your stomach and then was purple with a flow free bottom.I matched some white flats with my dress and headed downstairs.I greeted my mom “Good morning mom.” I noticed that dad was nowhere near by. “Mom where's dad ?” “ Honey something urgent came up so your dad had to step out.How about we get some breakfast from dunkin.” I nodded my head so we stepped out the house. When we arrived I ordered a glazed donut, mom got herself a chocolate sprinkle donut and got dad a pumpkin spice donut. We finished up eating and headed home.
