Education is taken advantage of every day, but do we ever realize its true values and the opportunities it provides? Education and literacy, provide the key in furthering one's self into new things. Education provides the opportunity to explore one's rights, further ones in their career, and provides independence in a dependent society.

Education can be said as one important aspect in human life. Because education can help people in many aspect and bring people to the better life in the future. According to H.H Horne, education is a device that can use by social group to continue existence renew themselves, and able to define their idea. Different with Thedore Brameld, he said that education contains extensive functions of the breeder and the improvement of the life of a society, especially bringing new citizens recognize the shared responsibility in society (MY Article, 2013).

Higher education has a vast history; beginning in the early colonial period and spanning ten generations. With its wide range of history, aspects of higher education have changed as the ideals and reforms of society adjusted. Albeit, the missions and purposes of college have remained the same. In this paper, I will clarify the three main missions and purposes of higher education. Then, I will shift the focus of the paper to the area I would like to pursue in higher education and how it reflects those purposes.
