Edward Weston was born on March 24, 1886, in Highland Park, Illinois. He was an American Photographer; living and taking pictures in Chicago for the majority of his young life. At the age of 16, Weston was given his first camera, a Kodak Bulls-Eye number two, by his father. Weston furthered his school career at Illinois College of Photography in Effington, Illinois then later moved to California in the year 1906. Weston had four children with his first wife, Flora Chandler: Edward Chandler Weston, Theodore Brett Weston, Laurence Neil Weston and Cole Weston. He had then opened a portrait studio in Glendale, California. Shortly after the birth of his fourth son, he met Tina Modotti. This was the foundation of their long romantic relationship and photographic associations.
Weston was later inspired by ARMCO Steel Plant in Middletown, Ohio. In 1923, he moved to Mexico City and opened a studio with his lover Tina Modotti. Tina and Edward moved back to California in 1927, where he developed his exceptional photographic techniques that have made him famous to this day. He began taking pictures of the West and the Southwest United States with assistant and future wife Charis Wilson. He was known for his work with shells, vegetables, abstract nudes, natural rock and tree formations. His portraits were frequently framed filling and sharp. His photography seemed luxurious with abstract shapes and heavy contrast. Weston was considered a Modernist photographer as well as known for "straight photography" which was the renunciation of manipulation of the photographic procedure.
