Medical Language: Effective Communication between Physicians and Patients
Effective communication can be the main perpetrator in an unsuccessful relationship. Why is it so important? Well communication is one of the building blocks to gaining trust in a relationship. Some physicians fail to realize how valuable their input can be to a patient, these same physicians also fail to realize how much impact they can have on their patients’ lives. It’s important that physicians are mindful of how they interact with their patients because it’s important to have a trusting relationship with their patients. Or else, how would a patient be able to trust instructions given to them in order to have a healthier outcome? Not only is it

In India surrogate mothers are given very little value, they’re simply looked at as a solution to help make ends meet. In India’s surrogacy business, surrogate mothers only purpose is to help families who cannot have children on their own, once this purpose is fulfilled they’re no longer have any importance and are forgotten about. Kumari explains “In this business, the baby is the product. The surrogate is the means of production. Even those who care for the surrogate do so until the product is delivered,” (Kumar.) The problem with India’s surrogacy business is that there is very little concern about shown for surrogate mothers needs after she gives birth. To be fair, physicians shouldn’t be the only people that are responsible to show concern for a surrogate’s well-being, intended parents should also show concern. However even if the intended parents show no concerns for the surrogate’s well-being, physician’s in India should and should build a relationship with the surrogate & provide emotional support if needed. Although these women know once they become a surrogate, they will not be able to keep the child after they give birth, it is very possible they could experience postpartum depression. Megan Cohen, an adoption attorney states that basically if a woman is the biological mother or surrogate mother to a child, it is
Communication is all around us. It’s the way we interact with each other in everyday living. Our senses have a lot to do with the way we receive communication, and even if a sense is impaired there are still ways to get the idea across to people.
Within a health care setting communication is a necessity. This communication not only includes the need for professional communication but also the way in which information is shared to the patient and to other healthcare workers. Another important aspect of health care worker such as a nurse is the effectiveness off a handover. Within the video, Effective Communication in nursing these three aspects of communication (Professional communication, provision of information and handover) were seen and will be analysed further, within this essay. These will be analysed through the three aspects, the care of the patient, the image of the individual nurse and the health outcomes of the patient. All of these three aspects of communication are vitally important to the overall patient needs.
A womb for rent by Ellen Goodman is a good read. The author wrote about the practices of surrogates in third world countries and the united states. She explains that even though the U.S. supports surrogates, other countries like India supports it as well but not just because some women can't have kids, but so that they can have income and other things.
There is controversy surrounding the concept of surrogacy in the United States. There is nothing in federal legislature the addresses the issue directly. Different States have different laws concerning surrogacy. Some forbid it and some enforce surrogacy contracts in court. Finding a surrogate mother, for some is their last chance to have a child that is biologically their own. There are people that believe that surrogacy is morally wrong for several reasons. I believe that if it is done properly then it can be a blessing for a family that would not have been able to have their own children, otherwise.
This is best described in the article “Rules get tough for overseas surrogacy”. People using surrogate mothers in India may no longer be able to do so after the Immigration Department said it would not guarantee citizenship to babies. India is one of the most popular destinations for couples seeking surrogacy arrangements is changing its laws to require prospective parents to obtain a guarantee of citizenship for their child before starting the surrogacy process.
There are two types of surrogacy: traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother is impregnated using the sperm of the intended father by a procedure called donor insemination. In this case, the surrogate mother and the intended father are genetically related to the baby. In gestational surrogacy, a procedure called in vitro fertilization is used to impregnate the surrogate mother using a couple’s fertilized ovum (Chittom and Wagner). There are two types of surrogacy arrangements: altruistic and commercial. In
Surrogate mothers have been the topic of many controversies, regarding how ethical it is. As many know surrogate mothers are women who bear a child for another woman (Surrogacy: the experiences of surrogate mothers, 2196-2204). There has been many sides to this argument, deciding whether it was ethical or unethical. Some people have chosen to support this type of medical practice, while others have shun it away completely arguing against it’s inhumane ways.
Morse’s statements about the negative aspects of surrogacy are completely false, to begin with, not every woman who takes part in being a surrogate mother is a stranger. Many couples like to choose a woman who is a close relative or friend of the soon-to-be parents, some do opt to choose a woman they have never met before through the agency. However, several couples do like to have a close relationship with their surrogate mother since they are going on the journey alongside them, the surrogate is the key component to making the dream happen.
Adversaries of surrogacy see these risks and different issues as destructive to people, families and social orders and they feel that eventually legitimizing the practice would bring about an absence of admiration for the sacredness of life (Parliament of Canada, 2006). Society’s perspective will immediately be altered and surrogacy and surrogate mothers will become the topic of focus and be exposed to a whirlwind of controversy – controversy on that the procedure and technology isn’t the natural way of life. Surrogacy is an extremely exhausting procedure both physically and mentally for the women who put their body on the line. Dangers are like those that may be knowledgeable about every single other strategy for helped regenerative treatment (Better Health Gov., 2012). These dangers exceed the advantages and in view of alternating feelings and dispositions towards the embryo amid development, it is impractical for a pregnant lady to give genuinely educated agree to surrender a new born child until after conception has happened because of these safety welfares (Callahan,
Was the baby Indian or Japanese? Because of different laws between India and Japan, the problem became very complicated. Their surrogacy contract didn’t mention this situation. There are no any existing laws to help to clarify the matter. This case shows that the unperfected contract and laws may make the intended couples into trouble if something unexpectedly happened.
Just as adoption is on the rise of popularity, surrogate mothering is staking its claim on society. Just as most every adoption transaction is monitored by agencies, which are set up by the government, surrogacy is also going to require governmental involvement. Surrogate mothering should be regulated because of the physical and emotional toll it on the birth mother, the lack of science behind the procedure, and the future of the child. With restrictions and monitoring, this program would be safer for the surrogate mother, and also the receiving couple, but most importantly the child or children that are involved. The child should always come first, and to assure its safety, more programs or agencies, should be set up to guild the couple and the surrogate mother throughout the whole process. Setting restrictions on these transactions would make it more equal and fair, but also easier to do. By the establishment of these restrictions and guild-line agencies, than the liability issues could be subsided, and the incase of a fall out with the persons involved, the agency and governmental involvement would insure the best possible solution for any issue that might be presented throughout the course of the pregnancy. One of the most unpredictable aspects of surrogate mothering would be the dependency of the surrogate mother herself. Though the child
Surrogacy is the arrangement of a birth of a child when the parents are not actually childbearing. This involves a legal agreement between the surrogate and parents, that puts the child under the care of the parents immediately after birth. The surrogate has no legal ties to the baby and formally renounces her rights as a parent to the child. There are many different types of surrogacy and ways in which one can do this procedure. Traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy are two of the most popular and well-known forms of surrogacy. Traditional uses intrauterine insemination to implant the biological father 's sperm into the egg of the surrogate. This procedure is typically used when the mother 's eggs or father 's sperm is no longer viable. Also, this procedure is less expensive and complex than in-vitro fertilization. This procedure allows the father of the child to be the biological sperm donor, and feel possessive over his kin. Due to the genetic relation of the baby to the surrogate mother in this situation, the surrogate is often a relative or friend of the parents. This can make matters more complex if there is a disagreement during the pregnancy or after the baby is born. Although, this way the baby is still biologically related to the father and possibly the mother, if a family member becomes their surrogate. The first legal case of surrogacy was in 1970 with a baby by the title of, baby M. The lawyer who arranged the baby and mother went on to develop
When a couple is unable to have a child, be it due to medical impossibility or high risk complications, one of the options they may consider is using a surrogate mother. Surrogacy is an arrangement between 2 parties where the surrogate mother is to become pregnant and carry the child to term and at birth the child is given to the other party and they are the legal parents of the child. A lot of times a family will try to find someone they know and trust to be their surrogate but that isn’t always possible. Let’s first get a better understanding of surrogacy.
Payment is another issue. Nothing can pay for the psychological and biological hurt of surrogate mothers. Although some people may think they are willing to do that, they are struggling for life. For those uneducated women, they may have no other choices but to take this as a career in order to afford the enormous fee for their lives and their families. However, it's still not a good option for them to
Maternal health includes the physical, mental and social well-being of women during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum period. Reproductive health is an indispensable ingredient of health and a major determinant of human development. Nearly 65,000 women die annually in India as a consequence of pregnancy and childbirth and 17 lakh children die before reaching to age of 5 years (Gupta and Nair 2010). These deaths are unjust and can be avoided with key health interventions, like provision of antenatal care and medically assisted delivery (Adam et al. 2005; MCcaw-Binnsetal 2007 quoted in Chinmankar and Sahoo 2011). Unfortunately, in India the utilization of reproductive and child health services is low and vary across the regions and ethnic groups. National Health Policy and WHO points out that only 36% of infants are fully vaccinated in India and Infant Mortality Rate among tribes is 84 whereas 70 is nation’s average and Mother Mortality Rate among the tribe is 126 and country’s average is 94. National Nutritional Report 2006 reveals that there are 44.7% of the tribal girls are suffering from anaemia in A.P& Telangana. There are around 75 tribal communities, identified as particular Vulnerable Tribal groups (PVTGs) in India
