Technology has dominated our lives in every direction. Children are growing up in a digital era; a world full of technology. Since our world is full of technology every child is growing up wanting to be a part of the latest portable technologies. Children younger and younger are exposed to the latest technologies as the technology advances. Determining whether or not it is appropriate for elementary school students to be able to carry their cell phones in school is very difficult. Parents and guardians are under the impression that technology is beneficial, but they don’t understand how children are using the technology to their benefit. Robin M. Kowalski, Susan P. Girls were twice as likely to sext as boys, and sexting increases as young people get older. A journal article written by Robin D’Antona, Meline Kevorkian and Ashley Russom says “Cell phones and internet communication do not allow the opportunity for the parties to read visual clues.” They also go on to say that students who receive these texts and view cyberbullying online also feel nervous and anxious over the exposure.” This means when children feel that another child is bullying them they tend to get nervous and anxious over the exposure they tend to either get violent or be disconnected from the rest of their class. To get in touch with their parents they need to do it the old fashion way just like we did growing up. Ask the teacher can you go to the office to phone home, or if the parents need to speak to the child then they should call the school. They lose that face to face interaction that they should have with their kids and teachers because of the over dependency of technology.
