The electrical contracting is a highly competitive industry that is also experiencing consistent growth in demand. This is evident in the state of California which has seen a rapid increase in commercial and residential buildings in the last decade. Southern California was one of the fastest growing areas in the entire nation in the late 1990s and early 2000s and it led to most upstart electrical companies basing their operations in that region. While there had always been some huge national companies there since the mid-twentieth century such as Bergelectric and Helix, there was still an opportunity to be filled by smaller enterprises. Companies such as J&J and Buck were founded to take advantage of the emerging market which seemed to
I feel very honored to be one of many students nominated for the National Technical Honor Society. When I first received the news I had been nominated I was very surprised and I felt very accomplished. Being nominated is one of the highest honors, it means I have been recognized for outstanding grades, I show up and do my work, and I am willing to help others. I believe I should be a member of the National Technical Honor Society because I am a hard worker, I am dedicated to my work, I am reliable, I am honest, and I am a leader.
Electrical – The electrical service is considered to be adequate for the current use configuration and in good working order but was not inspected. I am not qualified to inspect such systems.
It is always a good idea to take actions that can help protect you should an event occur — even if it is unlikely that anything bad will happen. For example, even if they have never been in an accident, many people still buckle their seatbelts every time they get in a car. Despite owning a home in an area that has never experienced a flood, some people carry flood insurance. Other people refuse to shower or talk on the phone during a thunderstorm even though the chances that lightning will travel through the phone lines or pipes are not particularly great. In short, it is human nature to attempt to reduce risks as much as possible. However, many people overlook the risks that uninsured contractors can pose. If you truly want to protect yourself, you should only hire asphalt contractors who are fully insured.

Working in a sales environment presents numerous opportunities to evaluate competitors and opportunities for customer growth. In the industry of home warranties, there are several competitors for consumers to choose from to service their homes. I work in the sales department and hear customers concerns and inquires about differences between my company and our competitors. The availability of substitutes does effect the price elasticity of demand because there are other competitors who consumers may consider doing business with. Although the quality of service is not the same, consumers still have the option. Last year we experienced a slight price increase in certain areas which caused some customers to not renew their warranties for the upcoming year. However recently, those who decided to get services with other companies have returned to my company despite the
Being able to take in the information that is presented and being able to apply it is a crucial tool that is needed in order to be successful. One of the assignments that we were given in ENGR 1000 was that we were tasked to see what type of learner we were. Everyone has their own unique way of learning and I myself feel that I am more of a visual learner than verbal. There are eight different characteristics on a scale from one to ten which means there can be fifty thousand and four hundred different possibilities. This is why it is important to know and understand what type of learner you are because you are only one of that fifty thousand and four hundred. You could and are very likely spinning your wheels trying to learn things the wrong way if you truly don’t understand how you learn. I can read a book cover to cover and at the end, sometimes I could not tell you what I have just read. After taking that survey I was surprised at how much I was heavily leaning only on visual and not verbal. Just this one alone was putting me at a disadvantage in my education because I was only really taking in half of what I could be. I have started to rely different learning styles so that I can be more we

To design a system for consolidated the company needs to make some changes to its structure and organization.
This semester I was elected President of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Team. I know, sounds exciting, right? Maybe not to you, but it does to me. Last year as a shadow I was able to take a trip with the team to the NECA Convention in San Francisco, and then when the former President graduated and his successor didn’t really stand up to take his place I was elected into the position. From there I built my team with some friends I had made in class, and then we found some new friends along the way. You may me wondering how all of this is even relevant to a Mechanical & Electrical Building Systems class, but I have a very simple answer to quiet your confusion. The NECA Team is just an application, a glimpse perhaps, into the real world application of what is taught in this class, and it is so much more. Without the NECA Team what you learn in this class would be irrelevant and useless.

Maintaining electricity seems like it would be easy. Regular safety checks can ensure elimination of fire hazards. Everyone should regularly check smoke detectors and turn off lights and appliances when not in use. Strip surge protectors
This previous summer I was graced with the opportunity to work for my father’s electric company. The job entailed driving a thirteen-foot tall box truck with a coworker to Umpqua banks in Oregon and Washington that had relocated or closed down and “decommissioning” them by removing all technology equipment. That includes: computers, cash counters, printers, telephones, and anything that uses electricity. We would take every piece of technology and catalog them into an excel sheet with their serial and model numbers. Most the trips we went on to decommission the banks would entail us having to spend the night in hotels. I made $12.50 per hour, a generous raise from making minimum wage at my previous jobs. The first trip I was sent on was with Jon, a heavyset man with a buzz-cut. Not long after we left the company shop for Medford, we took a pit-stop at his house so he could change out of jeans into shorts for the drive. He told me the boss, my dad, didn’t like to see his guys working in the field wearing anything but jeans, but assured me we wouldn’t see any customers that day. I drove us to the first bank in Medford. The bank was desolate; everything was there except the people. I walked around and stood in the teller booths, found the silent emergency buttons, and walked inside the vault. Jon and I devised a system; he placed technology on the cart, and I scanned it into the computer. Jon also took over the banks speakers and was the DJ. I enjoyed working with Jon and the
