Because electronic devices are fragile and contain important data, it is important to respect the following procedure when handling them and preparing them for lab observation: 1-I must first follow the right procedure before proceeding to the packaging which is to properly document the USB disk by taking pictures to verify or enforce its authenticity, then I’ll have to label it properly which is another way to authenticate it later on, if I need someone else to retrieve it at the lab, or for easy reconfiguration. Let’s not forget the imaging of biological evidence (like hair, tissue, blood, teeth, etc.) before it gets further analyzed. 2-The packaging can then be done in antistatic packaging, like paper bags, envelopes, cardboard boxes, or antistatic containers for the fact that they reduce the production of humidity or static electricity. Since we are dealing with a small device we will use an envelope for packaging. Furthermore, the packaging should be done in a way that the item will not bend or be deformed. 3-The last step should be to label the package with my name, date of packaging, name of item followed by a small description (for instance, white and blue USB flash disk) and reference pertaining to the case ( for instance, MR Yourprop E0012) * I would ask the lab to look at possible damage or scratches on the device.
