Elisha is an amazing prophet of God. His name means “My God is Salvation” and the entire ministry of Elisha would prove his name to be true. Elisha lived in the dark times where Israel’s enemies were around, but through every situation he stood as a light in the darkness showing that God was truly alive. Elisha the prophet continued the efforts of Elijah. Elisha’s work teaches faith and righteousness through his miracles and trust in God.
Elisha, the son of Shaphat, was a prophet and Elijah’s student and successor. Elisha was a farmer in the northern kingdom of Israel and was plowing with 12 oxen when Elijah came to him. He was called to follow Elijah and followed him without saying goodbye to his family. He roasted the oxen he made with the fire from the yoke and gave it to the people, there was no going back. When the Lord was about to take Elijah up in a whirlwind, he told Elisha to stay and not follow him any longer. Instead, Elisha was persistent and would not leave Elijah’s side. This showed Elisha’s faithfulness and unwavering loyalty and trust in God’s plan. Then Elijah was taken up into heaven in a fiery chariot (Elisha, n.d.). Elisha picked up Elijah's mantle and struck it on the waters

He brought back to life the dead son of a Shunammite woman; he cured Naaman a general from Damascus, of leprosy. Also, he multiplied loaves of barley and ears of grain to feed a crowd of people; he caused a metal ax head to float on water and he caused an attacking Aramean army to go blind and then returned their sight. Among these miracles, he filled large empty vessels with oil (Bible Prophecy Corporation, n.d.). This showed his humility and love for God’s people. Even when Elisha passed away he was able to perform a miracle. He became sick and was buried in a tomb. The Moabites put a dead man into Elisha's tomb, “And when the man was let down and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.” (p. 2 Kings
Elie and his family never thought the rumors would ever reach them. Until one day it did. Sending them to ghettos, making them leave their lives behind. “I looked at my house in which I had spent years seeking my God, fasting to hasten the coming of the Messiah, imagining what my life would be like later. Yet I felt little sadness. My mind was empty.” (page 19) Elie didn’t know what to think. No one had a clue as to where they were going to be located now. The place where he used to worship his god was beginning to be taken away from him. He doesn’t realize that his god would make him feel so betrayed and little
At the beginning of the story while living in Sighet, Eli has a strong belief in God and he worships him. For example, Elie befriended Moishe the Beadle who is trying to teach him everything he knows about God. Eli mentions how he and Moishe would spend hours talking about God. Eli says, "And Moishe the Beadle...spoke to me for hours on end about the Kabbalah's revelations and it's mysteries"(pg 5). This quote explains how Eli is prone to learning everything Moishe has to teach. Since he mentions hours and hours, it shows that he is willing to spend a lot of his time trying to learn as much as he can. Which should lead the reader to see how much Eli worships God.
In the beginning of the book, Elie’s faith in God is so strong that he never questions His existence. He went to the synagogue every day after school unlike other boys this age. He wanted to get closer to God by studying the Jewish texts more. He thought that the closer to God that if he was close to God than God will save him from anything. “One day I asked my father to find me a master who could guide me in my studies of Kabbalah” (Wiesel 4). Elie’s
he said he never wanted to become. John Dawson was the man who would change Elisha’s life
Eliezer uses his patriarch to represent the complementary relation between God and the one he has with his father. As Night progresses, Elie starts to give up on his faith in God. In the memoir, it states, “ I listened to him….He was right, I thought deep down, not daring to admit it to myself. Too late to save your old father… You could
Understanding how his life is centered around religion is important in understanding how he has changed throughout the story. On page one of the book Elie states “During the day I studied the Talmud, and at night I ran to the synagogue to weep over the destruction of the temple”. The way he spends his time and his life devoted to his religion shows how dedicated he is. On page sixteen as he leaves his house before going to the ghetto one of the last things he states is “ I looked at our house, where I had spent so many years in my search for God; in fasting in order to hasten the coming of the Messiah; in
No matter how hard life can be, we can overcome it with God’s help. He is the reason he survived. He is the reason we are here. Elie kept his faith through the whole experience. That is amazing for someone who faced that much persecution and kept on worshiping
Elie was deeply devoted to his faith at the beginning but as the story progresses he loses that devotion and barely believes that there is a God that exists. The first signs of him losing his faith was when he arrived at the first camp and saw the horrible things people were doing to the Jews. Other people around him had already lost faith in God and Elie was beginning to doubt God due to Him allowing people to do this to others. “His
“Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams into ashes,”(34). It takes a lot of events to take your soul and dreams to be burnt into ashes. Eli was going through a really hard time and wanted answers that were not heard from God. Without the closure of the events going on he started to question if there was even a God at all.
Moses is an effective Prophet due to his faithfulness to God; his unification of the Hebrews; and dedication to his mission. Like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Moses sees the harsh persecution of his people in Egypt. Fleeing for his life after killing an Egyptian, Moses is living a quiet life, married, tending to his children and his father-in-law’s flocks. However, when God interrupts Moses’s life and calls upon him to deliver the Israelites from purgatory, Moses answers God’s call. Despite his fears,
Eliezer spent all him time with his religion and strengthen it, everyday he seeks knowledge of what he wanted the most to understand his religion and God. He wanted and deepest connection he could get by “ We would read , over and over again, the same page,” the reason he would do this is to understand and “discover the very essence of divinity”. HIs religion , his relationship with God taught him the way to live life ; by that it helped to escape from reality and just focus on one thing.
When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell backward off his chair by the side of the gate. His neck was broken and he died, for he was an old man, and he was heavy. He had led Israel forty years.
1.What are three things that you noticed about the Egyptian creation myths? How do these myths compare to the Enuma Elish?
Based on how Elisha's father, Abuyah, was treated for being a Jew but teaching his son Greek, it was not common. Jews from all over knew of Abuyah's unfaithfulness to the Jewish faith and regarded him in a negative manner. Once Elisha started to question his own belief, he was afraid to tell anyone, even his closest friends because he knew people would be shocked and upset. When Elisha spoke to his friends about wanting to research a different religion in order to become more knowledgeable about the Jewish faith it took a little coaxing before they agreed. Through the character of Elisha, we were able to see the internal conflict it caused Elisha because he knew he would be excommunicated. In Elisha's case, he decided it was worth it to make
