Suppose that you stayed the same height all of your life, would it then be wrong to say you did not grow any? I agree with Emerson that growth is something that you haven't already done. Because growth is new or something that wasn't there before. In life if you do the same things that you once did when you were a kid then you have not grown as a person. Not referring to watching the television shows that you used to or liking the things that you used to. But referring to your character if you still have childish ways when you are an adult you did not grow. Because growth is new or something that is different than before. However, Emerson was referring to personality when he said that "unless you try something that you haven't already mastered then you will never grow". Because like I said earlier that growth is something new and if you do the same stuff that you always have been doing that is not growth you are staying the same and being stagnant. It's like the saying that you don't know what you can do unless you try it. On the other hand, some may disagree and say it's not what you do that determines your growth it's who you are inside. That is only partially true because actions speak louder than words. No matter what I say if my actions go against it or don't follow what I say then my words are hard to believe. Furthermore, you really wouldn't know that you have grew unless you are put into a situation that makes you do something new or that you aren't used to doing. Lastly for example, if a student has a problem with other saying things to him and he gets mad about it everyday. Then after a while he decides that he won't let it get to him or be bothered by it anymore; then, that student has grown as a person. Because he has mastered a new skill. He was put into a situation that required him to do something
