The story “A Bag of Oranges” by Spiro Athanas tells about a poor family lived in the rotting slum and the boy in this family became a mature person from a childish kid. Because the boy’s father needs to pay his responsibility to his family and the people who he loved, so his rude behavior and act makes his son hate him for a short time. After the boy notice his family’s financial situation, then he realize it’s not easy be an adult to making life run in the society, and you would lose some important things while you are paying responsibility to your family, so he begin understand his father. Like many child, the boy just sit with his father and listen to them without thinking. As the story point out, “The boy enjoyed the talk and sometimes felt he was allowed to hear all the secrets of the world, and was only mildly frustrated by the mysteries he could not understand. (p.218)” That means, the boy feel he is an adult when he sit with his father and listen to their conversation about women and some adult jokes. As it mentions, he can’t understand everything they talked because he doesn’t interested on the topics that they talk.so he is still immaturity at that time because he doesn’t interest on that and has no idea about the meaning of the conversation. But he can understand the conversation like that is only for adult.
Let’s move on to the incident of the story, the boy was very childish after the incident happened and his act and thought was really a kid. As the story says, “He felt the shadow and weight of his father behind him, placid and unashamed. Oh how he hated him and his smug, foreign stupidity! Why did he have to be his father (p.220)?” We can know the boy was really childish after the incident happened. Although his father’s behavior was rude or not good, he is so emotional and doesn’t give his father respect. His father grab the orange form a young man who seemed wants to give help. The boy couldn’t judge his father like that way because he doesn’t know these oranges are for their family and
On 08/04/16 at 8:42pm, I was dispatched to 2087 S. Hamilton Rd, on a injury dangerous or vicious dog/injured dog, serious injury, involving a Columbus Police Officer (CPD) being bit by a dog and shooting dog. I arrived at the location. I was advised my CPD personnel that the CPD Officer that was bite was transported to the hospital and that the dog was still breathing. I was escorted to the area where the dog was. The dog was on the ground, next to the dog was dog owner Jackie Fate. I was unable to see any visible injuries to the dog, the dog had shallow breathing. I asked Ms. Fate to wrap the leash around the dog’s mouth to prevent the dog from biting her or me while I placed the dog on the stretcher. Ms. Fate complied, I slowly guided the dog on the
Lovely short story “The Osage Orange Tree” had been written by the addressed author William Stafford. Throughout this short story, two main protagonist include of a young female high school student named Evangeline, and a young male high school student which who narrates this beloved story. In this short story, there are many major key events that happen, even some that lead to the conclusions of different themes. Evangeline shows affection by buying newspapers just to see the narrator, she acts clingy around the narrator, and lastly the tree which symbolizes protection, is the protection for her and the boy from everyone else. Which with these examples the theme can be seen as, eagerness for friendship can lead to many crazy but
Parenting played a big role in shaping the two boys lives. Having a parental mentor is important because they assist and guide children to take the right decisions about their lives. The author had his two parents at the beginning of his life. Also, the author’s parents, especially his mother, tried to raise him in an effective way wanting him to know the right from wrong at an early age. “No mommy loves you, like I love you, she just wants you to do the right thing” (Moore 11). This quote was a live example of the author’s life with his parents. It reflected the different ways his parents used to teach him “the right thing.” Though his mother was upset from his action toward his sister, his father
The boy is very warm-hearted and appears to struggle to understand that danger could occur at any moment, whilst his father knows a lot more about what some people, “the bad guys”, do in order to survive. It could be seen that the child is very naive and therefore trusts others more than his father. However his trust in others teaches his father a valuable lesson; that not everyone is a “bad guy”. For instance when the pair come across Ely, the father is wary about him but his son is adamant that they give him a tin of food. This shows to readers that the boy has faith unlike his father. Another example is when the son sees the little boy; he begs his father to go back and help him and asks if he can go with them. I believe that he wants to help others as
Parenthood was a factor in the boy’s life, this ideas gives you an insight on what he wanted the reader to convey. here are two different emotions running through this story from both the boys. In the author Wes Moore the emotion you feel while reading it is hurt and compassion.
Because some books that I have read the chacters try to much , but in this book you really don’t know that the boy is telling the story until you slowly read and pay attention to what he is saying. To be only eight years old the little boy seemed to have a a lot more intelligence than people we interact with daily. Whenever he knew something his sister did that was going to up set there mother , he would go correct it. All though he was very smart he still was a little boy who was eight years old. He was the reciver and the giver once they got letters from there father . You also know the father love his children because he had to fact the fact he was imprisoned and didn’t want to hurt his kids feelings. A father fear is to lose his children and to have his children lose respect for him. The fact that this book was written to the author with a smilar family situation at home. The boy also makes the best of any problem . He passes the time by playing war, cops and robbers , and going outside to play with friends. But at the end of the his father absence proves a deep sadness in his life. The boy trys to run to his mother about his dad and she just push him off her , . But the father did try to be there for his family while he was in jail , because he didn’t want to see all the weight but on his wife shoulders. Basiclally this store was about this little boy that missed his dad because he was going to
He is always aware of his father’s commands and follows them at all costs, because he knows that his father knows what is best for him. Three adjectives that would describe the boy are innocent, obedient, and compassionate. The purpose of the boy is to remind the man of what they are trying to do. He keeps his father from becoming too aggressive or too desperate by asking him if they are still the good guys.
The journey that Richard and Mildred Loving took is important for history and for the future of civil rights in the United States. I recently watched the documentary The Loving Story and enjoyed the footage, pictures, and interviews of everyone involved in the Loving v. Virginia case. The documentary addressed the issue of interracial marriage in Virginia in 1967.
The boy and the father have strong morals demonstrating a high level of authenticity, especially in a world where morality is extremely uncommon. To be ‘authentic’ means to genuinely be yourself. Although, as presented by Existentialism, one cannot be their true self until one has defined themselves. First, one must create their authentic selves, then they must live according to that (Varga). The father and the boy have strong principles to do what is right, even when their fellow survivors have completely abandoned morality altogether. At times, the father struggles with following said principles, however, he then justifies his actions which are purely for the safety of his son. This depicts that the father will do anything and everything to assure that the boy lives. The father expresses that “He knew only that the child was his warrant. He said: If he is not the word of God God never spoke” (5). When a man holds a knife to the son's neck, the father does not hesitate to kill him. Although this is
Imagine getting physically abused by your own mom for many years. This story is about a boy named Dave Pelzer. Dave Pelzer got under fed and abused by his mom. Dave's Mom was as mean as the devil. Whenever his dad came home, she didn’t want him to see her abusing David and comes up with an excuse for why he is hurt. His brothers ignore David so that they don’t get hurt or abused. Dave’s mom calls him “It” and “The Boy” because she says that he is a “bad boy” and doesn’t like him. In the story, A Child Called “It”, written by Dave Pelzer, the main character, Dave Pelzer, demonstrates that in life we should sometimes let go and make the best out of life. In the beginning of the book, Dave was dependent on his parents.
He tells the boy that he needs to find other good guys and he needs to remember everything that he's learned in order to survive. The father is obviously worried about the boy, but it seems unlikely that the reason he is so worried is because the boy doesn't know how to survive. It seems much more likely that he thinks the boy will be too kind to others, that he will give other people his food and then run out himself or that he will trust the wrong people and end up dead. The father knows what the boy's perspective on justice is, and that the boy believes everyone in the world should get an equal chance to
Emotions can make a powerful or hollow connection between two people. Although a person’s emotions can define their relationship with someone else, emotions can also separate the two people. Relationships can be more meaningful when the people involved are on the same page. Positive emotional connections create stability in relationships.

The book “Working with Emotional Intelligence” by Daniel Goleman deals with the emotional assets and liabilities of individuals in organizations. Emotional intelligence is traits that go beyond academic achievement or IQ. As a matter of fact he points out that high academic intelligence can sometimes stand in the way of emotional intelligence. Broadly speaking, emotional intelligence determines how well we handle difficult situation, which cannot be solved by logic, but more by a “feel” for the situation. These attributes are very hard to measure, which is why many standardized tests, whether academic or for employment, fail to measure these attributes, even though these are the one which determine

We have to learn how to identify and deal with these emotions because they have a direct effect on how we deal with issues at work.
