I joined the IEMS at the beginning of this semester. I took the CPR course and worked at a lot of events. As a CPR member, I do not know a lot on how to treat the patients, but I try my best to help my lead EMTs and learn something from them. During the event, I heard a lot from my lead EMTs about what they learned in the EMT course. I am really interested in the topics that will be covered in the EMT course. I love to interact with people and use my knowledge to help them. The EMT course will give me the ability to help people and save their lives. In addition, I want to go to medical school after I get my undergraduate degree here. The EMT course will give plenty of patient interaction skills and help me get prepared for the medical
Through this program I have gained so much knowledge. Being a student in this program for two years has been a blessing. It has allowed me to get hands on patient care as a junior and experience five different careers to begin to rule out what careers are not right for me. Now as a senior, I have been able to have a year long internship at McLaren Bay Region in the Emergency Room. I have learned so many skills like blood glucose monitoring, electrocardiograms, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. While being in this program I have truly found my passion for emergency medicine. This program has given me opportunities that most high school students don't have the chance to experience. The Health Technology Program has also prepared me for college. This program allowed me to write a career summary on my future career to explain what the job is, types of work and possible places of employment. I also wrote out a career plan. This made me sit down and plan out all of my classes for each semester at college and see how much it will cost. This has made me more aware of the importance of being aware what classes I need to take and what ones are not important. This class there is always something to do and it is important to write down due dates so all assignments are turned in on time. This really allowed me to prepare for college and understand the importance of
One day a couple years ago I was at daycare playing with my friends and it was a normal day. My mom soon called and said that my grandparents had been in a tragic car crash. Their car was totaled and my grandparents were not in good condition. They were soon rushed to the hospital and taken care of. They are doing fine today and still have their up-beat, friendly attitude. If not for those EMTs that were on the scene, sad to say, they probably wouldn’t be here today. I chose this topic because I want to help other become healthy again and to be around for there family. This paper will talk about why I wanted to do this job, other names for an EMT, summary of what an EMT does, the kinds of EMTs and what their specific job is, the qualifications, education path, salary, job findings, jobs related to an EMT, benefits, and if I still consider being an EMT.
Several years ago, my appendix nearly ruptured and I had to have surgery. At that time, the staff was caring, kind, and aware of my pain, and the environment was never boring. Everyone was in a rush, and there was never a dull moment. The atmosphere is exhilarating; nurses, doctors and emergency medical technicians are always in a rush to help patients. Afterwards, I realized I wanted to help people in the same way the medical personnel helped me. This inspired me to pursue my EMT certification, but my ultimate goal is to attend medical school and become a surgeon. To be able to pursue my dream, I hope to attend (School) because of the strong curriculum and capable instructors.
When I arrive to the facility this morning I was informed that one of the patients had passed away during the night, which was quite sad. Today I was in the acute ward all day and was able to watch the RN perform an ECG on a man that was bought in via ambulance who was complaining of chest pain. I watched as she placed the ECG leads on different positions of the chest. The RN showed me what a normal heart rate should look like. I also went around the ward taking OBS and notice that one of the patient's O2 levels were very low at 73%, the RN then gave the patient some ventolin through a mask to increase oxygen levels and they rose to 95%. The RN also showed me the medication charts and how they are to be read. I went around with her watching
The Medicine Wheel is a traditional Indigenous educational process that to teach people which create a relevance about the space, pedagogy and atmosphere within the culture. It is used to help people learn and understand the subjects which they are hard to learn or understand because the Medicine Wheel is ideal and not real objects (Bell, 2014). Also, it contains many rings of teaching, such as the seasons, the moment of a day, steps of life. The Settlers reconciled the First Peoples’ culture, language, the Medicine Wheel and the land. Reconciliation is a process and action that the government deep apologized to the First Peoples for what they did. It is not only an apology but also is a way to undo the damage as possible as the government can and they promised that will not happen again. Also, reconciliation is a way to promote the First Peoples’ culture and communities to the public and eliminate the gap between the public and them, and the stereotype of the First Nations. From this essay, it shows the concept of reconciliation from personal experience, the reading concept and the action for reconciliation to promote and protect the First Peoples.
Above all, Berkman says that volunteering as an Advanced EMT-Critical Care has been a rewarding experience and encourages fellow students to follow suit. “It’s a tremendous opportunity to get involved and help your campus,” he said. “I would encourage everyone to look into volunteering regardless of their career path, as the skills you acquire are useful in every profession and make you a stronger
I entered into the world of EMS in December of 2008, when I obtained by EMT-Basic certification in the State of Maryland. I started volunteering for a fire-based EMS system, Baltimore County, where I functioned as an EMT/ Firefighter. I also started working as an EMT at a private ambulance company. After functioning as an EMT for 5 years, I graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Health Services, Paramedic track. For the next couple of months, I worked on a critical care ALS unit that offered interfacility transportation, ranging from neonates to geriatrics. Although I was not certified as critical care paramedic, I functioned with a critical care nurse, as well as worked
Currently I do not participate in any of the EMS Field. I work in mental health St. Helena Hospital, and we receive many patients from the emergency room, but are not directly in the EMS Field. Within the next few weeks I will become an official volunteer EMT at Angwin ambulance. I personally have always enjoyed helping others and that's what brought me into the healthcare field. I look forward to working as an EMT because that's more along the lines of what I want to do as a career, which is an emergency room nurse. I chose the EMS Field because not only do I love helping others but I enjoyed the challenges that EMTs face and the constantly changing environment. I enjoy being on the front lines of the action and getting to play an instrumental role in everything from holding a hand saving a life.
This year I chose EMS as my senior year rotation. In this class, I experience what it is like to be a first responder since we find out what is wrong with our patient with the given information at the scene and then we plan a course of treatment for our patients depending on the site of the incident. This class has helped shape my knowledge of medicine even more and has helped carve us students into becoming EMT’s. Although the life of a doctor and a first responder are completely different, they both practice the same set of skills such as taking vitals, patient assessments, cardiopulmonary resuscitation,
You are a bystander to an accident on the road. You notice a person pleading for help as they are screaming in pain, what do you do? Well, it honestly depends on which profession you have chosen: Medic or EMT? When I compare being a Medic in the United States Military to being a civilian EMT; I think that being a Medic is better. Upon comparing the credentials and future availability to attain additional credentials, individual capabilities, and impact on health of those treated, I believe that you too will agree with the idea that being a Medic is more beneficial.
I like to share with Taylor and Madison about your EMT experience. I work in the Acute Rehab Unit at night shift. Last week I floated to a Med Surge Unit. I had an admission of a patient from the ER. The ER nurse gave me a brief report on the patient, before bringing to the Unit. The patient was diagnosed with lung cancer with mets to the liver. She received last chemo in December 28, 2016. She called the paramedics because she was feeling very weak and have not been able to eat anything for the one week. Last two days she has been drinking water only. She complain of lower back pain and nausea. In the ER she received Morphine IV for pain and Zofran IV for nausea. In the ER when they were drawing blood for different test, inserting IV, and
.) Overall professional impression of the presentation is that I have learned more about the benefits of telehealth such as reduction of cost of treatment of acute cases, real-time communication, decreases number of visits to medical facility and allows patient in rural area access to healthcare. Although I learn that we have a lot to work through with telehealth care such as maintaining confidentiality, education the benefits to patients and cultural/aging population differences consideration. The objective was exactly what was being covered. I really liked that your group had visual component for example the avoided emergency department visit and cost saving by using telehealth in rural area table. The presentation talks about the importance
As my career advances I want to use my Master’s degree to help me propel myself above other. Furthermore, I am looking for the next step to improve my resume when promotions come around for the Dearborn Heights Fire Department. I believe this degree will help me stand out when I interview and show the necessary skills of motivation, desire, leadership and loyalty when entering a leadership role within the department. Secondly, we are looking to pilot a community paramedic program which I am very interested in leading and helping organize within our community. Furthermore, I am looking to expand my skills and knowledge as a skilled professional. This degree will allow me to grow as a nurse and apply the knowledge learned within this program in a real life scenario. I would like to work as an advanced practice nurse in an acute care setting where I can help the most amounts of people possible. I also want to give back as well and teach others as much as possible. In our department we have hired many new registered nurses who I have been trusted to orient. This has given me the knowledge and confidence needed to prepare myself for a leadership role within the department and provide the necessary feedback to others to allow them to continue to grow as
igh-power laser diodes are addressing an increasing number of applications, which demand higher performance in terms of output power, power conversion efficiency and beam quality, such as additive manufacturing [1]. High output power from a single emitter can be achieved by incorporating a large gain medium, which also helps in increasing the catastrophic optical mirror damage (COMD) threshold. Although, laser diodes are becoming more attractive in direct applications, nevertheless, they are almost always operated with external feedback. The optics causing this feedback range from simple optics, for shaping/focusing the output beam, to sophisticated optics configurations, required for wavelength stabilization [2], and phase locking [3].
When I saw the firefighters training, I was like wow. I really admired how these firefighters enjoyed their job, even though it wasn’t easy. I could really tell that they were diligent and hardworking. They were devoted to being the best firefighters they can be. When Tony said “Being a firefighter was the closest thing to being a superhero.”, I thought it was really inspiring. The part of the documentary that really made my heart drop was when I saw smoke coming out of the first tower. I was so shocked when the World Trade Center went on fire. Everything was normal that day, and then all of a sudden this terrible event just had to start. Thinking back about it, I would have been so shocked, confused, and at the same time afraid for what’s to come. The firefighters were just bonding, and then out of the blue, the building just started smoking and debris was falling. I was heartbroken thinking about how unfortunate for the many people in the building. I could imagine how many people were in there, thinking that it was just another ordinary day; however, these innocent people had to suffer because of these terrorists. Lives were ruined and destroyed. This one bomb caused mass destruction, and this made me think about how one thing could cause so many things to happen. For example, the endless ripple effect. It made me wonder, how much better this world would be if everyone used this effect for kindness, instead for hate or destruction. It was absolutely
