Energy Flow In Food Webs

Decent Essays

Food webs are a very important throughout our everyday lives. We may not notice it, but we are in a food web ourselves. A food web shows how an ecosystem transfers energy throughout the different plants and animals. This is important because it shows the transfer of carbon throughout the ecosystem as well. Knowing how energy and matter is transferred throughout the ecosystem is important because it helps us understand and study the world that we live in. In a food web you have three types of organisms’ producers, consumers, and decomposers, each of them have a specific job in the food web. Producers are at the start of the food web, they create food through photosynthesis. Consumers are at the middle of the web, they eat producers and use the producer as energy, and …show more content…

Photosynthesis is a process that plant cells go through to create food. It takes in energy from the sun and matter (water and Carbon Dioxide) from the earth. The plant goes through photosynthesis and creates oxygen and glucose (sugar). Cellular respiration is the process animal cell goes through to turn food into energy. Cellular respiration happens in the Mitochondria in a cell. The Mitochondria take in sugar and output ATP (energy) and Carbon Dioxide. The Carbon cycle is very important throughout the ecosystem. IT starts out with plants who take in Carbon Dioxide which is used to go through photosynthesis. The Glucose from photosynthesis, which contains the carbon, is transferred from the producer to the consumer. The Animal breathes out the carbon dioxide after cellular respiration turns the glucose into ATP and carbon Dioxide. Without the food webs we wouldn’t be able to understand how energy and matter is moved throughout the ecosystem. Photosynthesis and Cellular respiration are shown throughout all food webs and is the reason that all organisms are able to have energy. We have to be able to understand the world around us to better improve our lives and the
