Equal Pay is a topic that has been highly talked about for decades in the professional world. Whether it’s between men and women having “same pay” or whether its race, this topic will always have a significant place in the work world. What exactly is “equal pay?” Equal pay entails that an employer must pay a male or female employee equally for the work

In no way is it trying to be conveyed that men and women are exactly equal. They both hold equally valuable qualities and abilities, but nonetheless, are different. Some men work more hours and earn more pay than their female counterpart, and the flip side of that is also true. There is much to remember when learning and understanding the issue of pay gap and the discrimination it sends towards women. The idea that women are being discouraged and pushed out of high paying jobs possibly because they are women is the root of the issue. In a survey conducted by Pew Research, 42% of the women interviewed said that they felt discriminated at their workplace, and 25% of these women felt that they actually received less than their male counterpart for the same work. These percentages show that despite the fact that women in today’s society have earned the rights to have these jobs, they do not feel as though they are treated equally in these said jobs.

Women’s pay has long been a subject in the economic community and to a further extent society. With arguments being presented from both sides, but one thing cannot be disputed there is a gender based wage gap between women and men. Why is there a gap and how can society in the United States change that? First we must examine women in the workforce. Then ask why it happens then figure out how we can put an end to the pay gap.

The claim that women make 79 cents to a man's dollar comes from a poorly misunderstood statistic that does not include many crucial factors such as hours worked or even education level.

However, men still tend to receive more pay for the same jobs than women. This disparity has continued for many years in spite of the ongoing public outcry that women deserve equal pay for equal work. The vast difference in pay has been reasoned and explained more than once throughout the years since it was first brought to attention of the general public. At this time however no explanation has been forthcoming that can adequately explain the reason behind the wage gap, nor why it persists.

Companies around America have unequal pay between sexes and the topic has brought up some controversy. Companies will say that it saves them money by paying women less. Female employees should not have a lesser pay than their male coworkers for the same work because unfair pay is illegal and women put just as much effort into their work as men.

The understanding of importance of equal pay on the matter of gender is important to be fair to both females and males. The three main points is the causes to pregnant mothers along with single mothers and women just in general.

Traditional views of women have existed since the first known civilizations. Typical gender roles would include women taking care of the children, cleaning the house, preparing meals, and taking care of her husband; all while the husband works and supplies his family with what they need. Although there is nothing wrong with these traditional gender roles, times have changed and a lot of women are expanding against societal norms and doing more with their life than just the housekeeper. Women are achieving higher education, obtaining stable careers and financial stability for themselves. They are also choosing to not have children, or they will still return to work after their maternity leave. This era of revolution for women is taking the world
