Everyday a different crime is committed; however, the reason or motive behind it is not always understood. Over the years, theories were developed to explain why certain crime occurs. For example, Andrea Yates was a mother of 5 who drowned her children due to a mental illness she endured, but there are many theories that play a vital role in explaining why she committed this crime. The theories that will be discussed throughout this paper are the Biosocial Trait Theory and the General Strain Theory.

On June 20, 2001 a woman by the name of Andrea Yates, stunned the whole country with one of the most bizarre acts of violence that a parents could ever do to their own children. She called her husband at work and told him “I did it” confused by what was going on, he rush home only to find his house filled with officers of the law. The husband asked, “What is going on?”, and only to found out that his wife had drowned all five of their children.

Mollie Goodnight did all that she could throughout her whole life from taking care of her siblings right after both of her parents’ deaths, to just teaching some of her husband's farm hands how to read. Mollie tried to do her best even in the darkest of times, which is one of the reasons that she is one of the best women Texas has ever had.

Emily D. West, who is called Emily Morgan by those who know her by a slave of James Morgan and the "Yellow Rose of Texas" by twentieth-century myth-makers, was born a black in New Haven, Connecticut. Emily was a long haired black little girl who no would have assumed grow up and trick a major leader of the mexicans. Emily Morgan is a very significant lady from the 1800’s. It was a privilege to listen to Stephanie Garrison share her story and provide encouragement for our own lives. Personally, I found it very admirable how willing she was to share and be vulnerable. Anyways, Stephanie is currently in her 14th year at Southeastern and serves as the Assistant Athletic Director under Drew Watson. Beginning in the athletics department in January of 2014, as the Director of Operations. Western Iowa Tech Community College draws all kinds of people in from a variety of different states. Western Iowa Tech is located in Sioux City, Iowa. One of the students that it drew it is Alexis Johnson. Alexis is a freshman attending WIT this year. There are many reasons on why you would choose a school and hers is very specific. Alexis chose to attend WIT for its has an outstanding Police Science program. She is enrolled in the forensic science program for a very inspiring reason. Her aunt and uncle were involved in a bad car crash about 5 years ago, which resulted in Alexis’s uncle being paralyzed from the waist down. This not only has affected her way of life but her future as well. The driver of the other car was drunk. The drunk driver that was involved in the car accident with her aunt and uncle was only put in jail for 6 months and this was his 3rd offense of driving while intoxicated. Not only is Alexis against drunk driving but it also motivated her to want to become a cop to help stop drunk drivers.

Amanda Ard, freshman, is involved in the Red White Brigade band at Fort Osage High School. She plays the clarinet, and has been in band for four years. During her eighth grade school year, she got to participate in two festivals, one held at Blue Springs South and one held at Worlds of Fun. “It’s kind of nerve wracking because there are a lot of people and schools, and you don't get to see the judges, but I can shut them out. Being with the team and knowing we’ll do good helps,” says Ard.

Erika is part of National Honors Society because of her outstanding achievements these past few years. She’s been able to show great, qualities, involvement and pride as a Streamwood High School student. Erika is an exemplary student and peer to many around her. She is respectful and responsible. Her pride is shown through events that she helped organize such as the “Teacher's Appreciation Week Entrance Welcoming” and her participation in the Streamwood High School Marching Band and Streamwood High School Pep Band. Though she believes that school spirit is very important she also knows that school is all about education and learning. It seems like Teen Mom 3 and 16 & Pregnant star Mackenzie Mckee's battle with diabetes is getting tougher and tougher for her. The young mom rushed to the hospital after she suffered complications from diabetes and her blood sugar went sky high.

“Amanda Clark’s phone conversation came to an abrupt end when her Chevrolet Trailblazer rolled three times before landing on its roof. She had run a stop sign and was broadsided by another driver. Amanda Clark survived her first car accident caused by distracted driving, but wasn’t as lucky the second time. After she started driving again, she pledged to put her phone away and focus on driving. Clark’s Mother, Bonnye Spray, said, “I thought this would be a wakeup call for her, and it was for a short time she wouldn’t talk on the phone, she was more cautious. But she got more confident in her driving and a sense of ‘Hey, I survived one, I’m invincible, nothing is going to happen to me now’” (Tracy). Have you ever heard about the Kathryn Adam murder? Well if you haven't it’s okay because I will tell you about it right now. Kathryn adam was a young woman working for a company named L’eggs and she delivered boxes of stuff to different places. Some people say that she committed suicide and others say that she was murdered and taken somewhere that nobody knows. Her doughter was the one that reported her missing because she didn’t come home for two days. In the case of Kathryn Adam, know one really knows what happened to Kathryn on the night of April 23rd 1993, I know that when she went missing her L’eggs van was parked outside an abandoned restaurant.

Angela L. Shine, LMSW is a local, regional and national champion of increasing mental health awareness, especially working together with interfaith organizations and communities. Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Angela currently lives in Columbus, Mississippi. She is a graduate of Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where she received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degree, respectively, in social work.

Annika Santos is fifteen and lives in Manchester Hills. She is the middle child; her older sister Erica is sixteen, and her younger brother Sam is seven. The Santos have lived in both McDonna and Atlanta, Georgia, as well as Florida before coming to Michigan. Annika currently attends Forest Hills Central High School as a ninth grade. To say that she is very involved with her school is an understatement.

Jens Pulver a UFC fighter, is also known as little evil. He grew up a rough life in Seattle, WA with a drunk, abusive father. Jens is a strong young kid, he takes beatings from his father. He picked up wrestling when he was young and loved every second of the tiring workouts.
