After her biology teacher had died, she had wanted to find the killer thinking that it might be connected to her mother's murder. To do so she had needed some DNA, Victor fleming had said, “Fifty percent of human DNA is identical to the DNA of a banana” (Scarborough, 78). By this quote, it shows how Erin was so desperate and willing to risk her reputation to find the killer and her father. Another example is that she had changed in a emotional, and mental way. She had gained this crush on Journey Michaels, a popular boy at school. She had said, “It’s not that I don’t want to see my friends, It’s that I’m missing Journey. I want the freedom to think about him with no distractions”(Scarborough, 182). Before the murder she has had a huge crush on him and would usually only think about him during school, but after the murder and they had became friends she can’t stop thinking about him. By this, Erin is being taken by her thought and really only want to hang with journey and setting her friends
Lady Brett Ashley is heartbroken as her true love was killed in World War I. She is also promiscuous and parties non stop. She has short hair like a man and is still attractive to all the men in the book and many of them fall in love with her. Her looks and Jakes feeling towards her are shown in the quote “Brett was damned good-looking. She wore a slipover jersey sweater and a tweed skirt, and her hair was brushed back like a boy’s.” Brett also does not seem to have any female friends and seems to only enjoy being around men. She is in love with Jake, the count and Mike Campbell all at once and they seem to not care about her sleeping around with other men. Lady Brett Ashley is also very unhappy throughout the story. “Oh, darling, I’ve been

People try to hard to be popular in Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. Stargirl becomes Susan to try to be popular, but it did not work. The most important lesson that we learned from Stargirl is that popularity does not matter, no matter how much you are hated.

“God deals us all different hands. How we play `em is up to us.” This is a quote from Jeanette Walls’ True-Life Novel Half Broke Horses. Adam Casey taught this Lily, as their house gets washed away by a flood. It illustrates Adam Casey´s attitude towards unpredictable happenings quite well.
I would describe Alicia from the book Things Not Seen by saying she is kind, independent, and a little sarcastic. In the book, Things Not Seen, on chapter 20, page 175, it states, “…, I go up to the third floor of the library, find Alicia, and in five minutes we’re looking for a cab to take us to the Sears corporate headquarters in Hoffman Estates,”. This quote shows how Alicia is kind and would do mostly anything for Bobby, like help him sneak to Sears cooperate headquarters at night, for Bobby to find out who else had problems with their electric blanket. Also, Alicia is very independent, in the book Things Not Seen, on chapter 17 page 137 it states, “Just because I’m blind doesn’t mean I’m stupid,”. This quote shows how Alicia doesn’t want to be treated differently and that she isn’t a little kid who can’t do anything.
I am kind of on the fence with Hester Prynne's way of handling her punnishment. It was incredibly brave of her to own her mistakes; however, her child will have to live like an outcast just his or her mother.
The novel In search of April Raintree by Beatrice Culleton Mosioner allows non-Metis people an idea as to what it was like to grow up being metis as well as the story of two sisters. The novel is told by April Raintree the eldest daughter of Henry and Alice Raintree. Her father is described as being of mixed blood a little of this and a little of that and her mother Alice was part Irish and part Ojibway. April describes herself to take on her mother’s features more than that of her father . (Like her I had pale skin, not that it made any difference when we were living as a family.) (p.1)
In Lauren Kates, Fallen, one vivacious character named Luce, a girl who grew up in a un-prosperity town is transferred to a different kind of school has strong internal conflict with herself throughout the book. Luce finds her life to be toil and is encountered by these mystical things called “Shadows”. Although she tries to shirk them and is the only one who see them, she denies the fact that they are there and is haunted by them from time to time and is the main faction to her life.
Cheryl Fynn is Maddie’s mother in the book. At the beginning, she can be described as uncaring, depressed, and addicted. For example, “ Still, it’s not like Ma takes care of herself. She smokes, drinks, but mostly doesn’t care.”, Maddie says. It also shows this trait when Maddie states, “ Ma won’t even answer the door for sweet Mrs. Duncan, who used to bring over cookies and baked goods all the time.”
In the novel My Antonia, Jim states “to be dissolved into something complete and great.” He also stated “When it comes to one, it comes as naturally as sleep.” This means when you are involved in something you are good at and enjoy doing, it will come easy to you. Learning quickly is easy if you enjoy it and have a natural talent in doing a certain job. It could also apply to all life styles or situations.
Rose, Troy’s wife, is characterized by her responsible and guiltless actions toward her family. She sings to Jesus to be her “fence all around” and “protect” her. ( 21) Bono tells Troy, “Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you.” (61) This quote describes how caring and devoted of a character Rose is, because she wants to keep her family together by building a “fence.” Her supportive character is shown when she encourages her son to play football even when Troy refuses to let him play. (39) She claimed she had “dreams and hopes” but took all her “feelings” and gave them to Troy. (70-71) This declares that Rose, unlike Troy, cut off her ambitions and need for the sake of her family. She reminds Cory that his father tried to make everyone’s
The message that Ariana Grande is trying to say is that even if you are being bullied, things can be turned around if you be true to yourself. “And all that you have to do, is be true too you.” I think this quote means be yourself because there is only one you on this planet. This relates to the main passage because Ariana is struggling through high-school and is saying if you be true to you, that’s what will make you successful, and that’s exactly what the quote is saying. “Dunk me in the toilets now it’s you that cleans them.”
Love is a powerful word that can be used in the wrong context very easily. Love is part of our lives on a daily basis. Learning how to love on can teach us how to accept events for what they are, both negative and positive, moving on from it, and acknowledging death. In the novel, Morrie teaches Mitch that people still live on within others even though they are gone. “I’ve got so many people who have been involved with me in close, intimate ways.
One of the few times in this novel that hands are ever noted as being covered by something is at August’s fathers funeral. Interestingly this quote is placed in the beginning of the novel at present day in the narrator's perspective when she and her brother are attending their fathers funeral later in life. Fascinating it is for the author to include that August hand was “In the silver light of morning, my brother reached for and found my gloved hand” (pg 4) The language in this quote emphasizes the importance due to phrases like reached out and found her hand. I chose to draw attention to this line because closely reading and analyzing this novel you see almost no other instances of characters searching for a hand to grab, whether this be August or her friends Gigi, Sylvia or Angela their hands
