The focus of the Board’s decisions was on the attainment of educational goals, and in the enhancement of the research reputation of the university. Success measures for educational initiatives were normally expressed in terms of student achievements, enrollments, and applications to the university. Success measures for research efforts were counts of the numbers of articles published and research grants received. Financial measures of success, when they were used at all, mainly comprised summaries of budgeted expenditures versus actual expenditures. The most significant costs and risks a company can take are in re-aligning its core business processes and systems to allow for greater responsiveness to market opportunities and threats. Increasingly Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are being used as the unifying platform for all systems throughout an enterprise. As a result, the project, implementation, training and support plans often must be carefully devised and implemented across nontechnical and technical personnel to ensure the overall project's success. ERP systems especially are fulfilling a critical role in the managing of enterprises, taking on the tasks of managing accounting, financial reporting, supply chain management, logistics and ongoing quality management of products, processes and the role of people in adding value to finished goods and services (Ash, Burn, 2003). ERP has become the catalyst of entirely new approaches to using information, including the ongoing development of analytics and business intelligence (BI) applications that are giving executives greater visibility into their operations than ever before (Ash, Burn, 2003). Enterprise Resource Planning is a term formerly invented in 1990 by The Gartner Group to describe the next generation of MRP II software. The purpose was to integrate all facets of the professional creativity under one group of software requests. The meaning of ERP would be broadened to include almost any type of large integrated software package. Webopedia offers a widespread description of ERP as a occupational organization system that integrates all facets of the occupational, with planning, trade, sales, and marketing. Selecting and implementing a new ERP solution has traditionally been a long and painful process that most CFOs would prefer never to do again. At the same time much has changed over the years, and things that were painful 10 years ago, may not have the same relevance today. We are in the midst of a technology change to configurable and cloud based solutions, and away from customized on-premise ERP.
ERP have been generally oriented towards big companies, however, recently ERP designers are looking for extending the market. This project aims to study the acquisition, implementation and use of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to achieve improved business intelligence and decision making for the company ABC. The project further aims to identify the requisite data input and analysis needed for optimizing the ERP services used to improve productivity and efficiency for ABC. Although all businesses are unique and their administrative needs differ, ERP systems have been shown to provide a valuable framework that combines a wide range of organizational business functions into a single comprehensive system that facilitates informed decision making. While ERP was originally created for manufacturing applications, these systems have become the dominant form of business information systems
The implementation of any ERP package is a matter of concern for the management of any enterprise, and the same needs to be undertaken after a considerable amount of planning and with a long term an analysis of the situation. Changing from an existing package and moving to a completely new package involves considerable amount of efforts and shall have an effect on the entire organisation, and hence, they need to be undertaken with thorough planning. The new package installed shall materially alter the manner of working of the people in the enterprise, and shall replace all the existing operating procedures. People require time to adjust to this, and to get along well with the new software. The management while deciding to implement any such change, must analyse the current situation and develop a strategy for implementation of the new package and only then the idea may be moved head, and given a concrete form.
