In recent years, with the growing popularity of sports, athletes salaries have escalated like that of a superb stock equity. Athletes are taking full advantage of their position, causing the average man to wonder how high will they go. Some feel that athletes are greedy people who have lost care for the true meaning of their salary, the love of the game.
Others feel that if a person is able to earn that kind of money, why shouldn't they? Increases in athlete salaries will bring up the question on whether athletes are worth the money by researching the NBA?s new collective bargaining agreement (before and after the approval), by observing the current salaries of

The problem is they want to do that immediately. "In a couple years, after Garnett develops into a superstar, people will be saying ?Boy, I?m glad we signed him [Garnett].?" Rosen thinks that it was undoubtedly necessary to have rookie salary caps. "If there weren?t those rookie caps, kids out of college, even high school like KG [Kevin Garnett], would be signing these multi-million dollar contracts right after the draft. There is no doubt in my mind that that was a good thing to do." He also feels that these high salaries are good because it shows that revenue is going up (Rosen). Sports salaries have sky rocketed in the past ten to fifteen years. Professional athletes have moved from six figure salaries to nine figure salaries in what seems like a snap of a finger. Michael Jordan, for example, got paid about $35 million a year not counting endorsements. Let?s put that in easier terms: - $439,000 a game - $12,500 a minute played, assuming he plays about 35 minutes per game - $209 a second played - almost $40,000 a jumpshot, assuming he makes 11 jumpshots per game That is a ton of money when one looks at it this way. If one includes the endorsements he gets, which are from Nike, Gatorade, Hanes, Ballpark hot dogs, Jordan shoes and clothing, Rayovac Batteries, and Michael Jordan cologne, he makes about one million dollars per game. Now this is a little too much, even if it is, in fact, Michael Jordan, probably the best basketball
Although NBA players are good and great athletes, They shouldn't get paid as much. Because that money needs to go to kids and families that don't have homes or food or water or clothes. People that need money and stuff to live should get it and NBA athletes should not make that much.
Do you ever wonder why athletes want high salary's.For ex.If you were an athlete would you want a high salary. Many would think If i was an athlete and I was a pro at doing what I do best some would think that I deserve a high salary.
Do you think professional athletes are overpaid? You might think they earn more than what they are worth for playing half a year, but athletes have many things which contribute to their salary. Some of these things include their earnings from endorsements, ticket sales, performance, merchandise, their social contributions, and TV ratings. Although there are many factors that contribute to their salary, professional athletes may be overpaid because as a society, we contribute to their success. So, in the end, part of the athlete’s salary comes from the people who support the sports in the first place. These are just some of the reasons why athletes are paid so much money.
Some people might say there's no guarantee that good players such as Karl Anthony Towns will stay in college. While there is no guarantee that all good players will stay, but paying them gives them a good reason to stay and get an education. According to five reasons college athletes should be paid, paying the athletes could get most of the players to stay longer. They could say you know what I’m getting paid, I’ll leave when I’m ready. The culture has become if you don’t want to stay here go. Instead of it’s good for you to be here. If the public really thinks it’s good to for kids to stay in school, why don’t we give them reasons to
I believe this is not a good reason because even though it is a priviledge they are spending 43 hours for a unpaying job. Almost every highschool athletes dream is to play in college (Thelin). There are only about 7% who actually go ahead and do it and 2% who play in division one leagues. College athletes should recognize the accomplishment they have made becuase they have achieved something that millions of people want to do, which is play in a college sport. People think it should be done for the love of the game and also because it is just a game (Thelin). People are thinking if you pay college athletes then the fame of their sport will be lost
This paper addresses the issue of the extreme increases in salaries of major league baseball players. It looks at the effects of these increases on all areas of the game, from competitiveness, to fan appeal, to financial issues. It also looks at the different perspectives of all involved, including the owners, players, and the fans. Also shown in the paper are the possible solutions to the problem of baseball salaries, along with some of the possible negative outcomes in the future if nothing is done
There are many arguments in the realm of sports and athletics. One of the most controversial issues in today’s sports society is whether basketball and football college athletes should be paid for their performance. With the value of professional athletes skyrocketing, college players deserve compensation. The value of college basketball and football players is underestimated compared to that of professional athletes of the same sport.
In today’s society many will argue whether or not professional athletes are overpaid. In the present time athletes are being paid phenomenally large amounts of money for their entertainment. It is my claim that all professional athletes are overpaid because they do not offer society an essential function that improves or enhances our world in comparison to other professionals such as medical doctors, lawyers, and teachers. Society does not value entertainment enough to warrant such high salaries such as those of many professional athletes. There is no reason that these athletes should demand these tremendous amounts of money. This is why you have to put into question their reasoning for demanding
Then there are NBA players that they can go workout whenever and the only thing they might have to do on off days is an interview. This NBA season will make the most profit ever because the off season turned into a drama show, with rookies exposed to be better than Michael Jordan. The other reason is because of trades, no one could stop The Golden State Warriors from destroying every division, and fans realized that there team had no chance and didn't bother going to games or even watching them, but several teams made some serious trades for some all stars and the fans are loving it because there team has some serious chances of winning it all this year. There are millions of new nba fans and more fans equal lots of more money. Since the money's gonna be flowing with the nba if we took 20% of every dollar for NBA after a while teachers could receive a serious raise and the NBA teams would still be making way more profit than ever. NBA players deserve to be paid millions but not over 100 million, what are you gonna do with all of that money. Teachers have in an important role in America and they deserve way better pay because teachers have been dropping down the polls in jobs and without teachers our country would need some serious
It can be enjoyable to lounge back on your couch, kick up your feet, and enjoy a professional sports game, but have you ever wondered how much money your favorite athletes make? Many professional athletes and entertainers earn large sums of money. However, I believe that athletes should not acquire the income they receive because they get paid for playing a game, they do not perform year-round, and they make more money than the president.
The average annual pay for an athlete as found in the US Bureau of Labor Statistics is $32,086, yet people have the audacity to ask if they are paid too much. I admit that the athletes on the top of their respective leagues are paid substantially more, reaching the millions tier. Even though these numbers are a minority in their respective fields, it is the level of pay that people usually look at and complain about. Some people make the claim that athletes do not earn the money they get because they fail to see the value they give to the table. Some plea that shooting a basketball or throwing a football is not a skill worth paying millions over. Are those acts the only thing behind an athletes career? Professional athletes are paid sufficiently
Are elite athletes/sports men or women being paid too much if not how are there high salaries justified, if so, why, and how could there money be put to better use?
The passages present a discussion about arguments concerning whether or not professional athletes are overpaid. This is an important debate since professional sports represents a multi-billion-dollar-per-year industry. The two positions argue whether or not professional athletes should be paid the large yearly salaries they are paid. Both viewpoints have valid claims warranting consideration. For example, evidence suggests that people with far more important jobs are paid much less than professional athletes; in contrast, opposing evidence suggests that since professional athletes generally have short careers and must train very hard to build and maintain their skills, the higher salary is justified. While both sides of the issue have valid points, the viewpoint that professional athletes are not overpaid is the best-supported position, the position supported by the preponderance of the evidence cited in the passages. The strongest and best reasons supporting this position are that professional athletes must endure grueling and intensive training, they generally have short careers that often end in injury, and the amount that they are thought to be paid is often inflated. Accordingly, these reasons and opposing viewpoints will be discussed next.
In recent years, it is acknowledged that sport professionals earn huge salaries that exceed other respected professionals by far. This situation has sparked a heated debate with opinions on both sides, in favor and against.
What should athletes deserve to be paid? Many players have risen to stardom by becoming a professional athlete. Athletes have come from many different backgrounds; some from wealthy and some from poverty raised backgrounds. Salaries are continuing to rise, and money doesn’t seem to be an issue. Athletes are getting what they want from the owners by negotiating through their agents. Athletes’ salaries aren’t just from their owners, but they come from other sources also. Athletes get paid an enormously high salary for the work they do. Really all they do is entertain us. We should consider the value of their work and pay them accordingly. They do not deserve the extreme amount they get
