Many people believe that there are different reasons for the cause of World War 1, also known as "The Great War", or the "War to End All Wars". I have made this to tell you what mainly caused World War 1. It all began on June 28, 1914 when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie were assassinated by a terrorist group that called themselves the “Black Hand” during a parade. This event triggered a chain of events that later led to a long, catastrophic war that will be remembered for many generations. The motives of the Black Hand were unknown, but some speculate that they were angered that Bosnia was annexed which divided the larger area’s Slavic population. The parade route that the Archduke Franz Ferdinand was going to take was announced to the public, which resulted in the Black Hand putting assassins all along the parade route. Reports say that the first 2 assassins were planning to throw bombs at the Archduke’s car, but they were unable too due to the large crowds. The 3rd assassins threw an armed grenade, but it resulted in the Archduke himself knocking the grenade out of the car, where it exploded underneath the car behind them which put 2 military officers in the hospital. The Archduke and his wife decided to go to the hospital to check on the injured military officers, but however the driver did not know of this change. When the driver thought he had made a wrong turn, he tried to reverse, which caused confusion. During this confusion Gavrilo
On June Twenty Eighth Archduke was traveling with his wife, when the driver got lost and went down the wrong road. Gavrilo Princip was a Serbian assassin who shot and killed Archduke and his wife. The assassination was used to start a rebellion that would create a much larger Serbian nation. Austrian ambassador was very unsettled by that, so he decides to get a friendship with Germany. They become allies on July fifth. Austrian wanted an apology from Serbia. But did not receive one. Austria-Hungary then declared war on Serbia. Therefore caused a giant war to break out (DBQ Project Essay Background).
World War 1, also known as “The Great War” occurred due to many causes. It was the result of aggression towards other countries. Rising nationalism of European nations, economic and imperial completion, and fear of the war prompted alliances and increase of armed forces. This created tension contributing to the outbreak of war. But it was assassination in Sarajevo that triggered World War 1.
Gavrillo Prinicip along with seven other members were waiting on the route that Archduke Franz was going to take to assassinate him. One of the seven Black Hand members by the name of
World War I, a war that started out locally in Europe between Austria-Hungary and Serbia that later ended up including thirty two different nations. This war has been around for almost a century and yet the causes of it are still being debated. There are many different scenarios that have been considered. Some of the key reasons that were believed to have instigated WWI were nationalism, imperialism, militarism, and an arrangement of treaties. Also the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was believed to be one of the immediate causes.
The assassination of Franz Ferdinand is what lead to the immediate beginning of the war. Franz Ferdinand was in line to be the next heir to the Austria-Hungarian throne. He was later shot to death along with the wife during a visitation to Sarajevo in 1914. A Serbian group, known as the Black Hand, was blamed on for the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. This event lead Austria-Hungary to declare war on Serbia for the assassiantion, which led to the beginning of World War 1 (History.com Staff,2009). Other WW1 analysts believe that there might be no single reason that can be attributed for the main cause of the war. These WW1 analysts think that the war might have started as a result of several other factors that lead to the buildup of WW1. These factors could included the development of militarism, imperialism, and nationalism. These factors contributed heavily to create the conflicts that led to the beginning of WW1.
Great War, also known as The First World War, lasted for four year (1914 to 1918). It brought a huge development of war technics and weapons. More number of countries had been involved in the Great War than any previous war. It involved the mobilization of the whole nations, not just an enormous army that turned the war into a “total war”. (Clare 6) However, historians are still arguing about the major cause of the World War I. The major cause will be one of the four long-term causes of WWI, which are Militarism, Alliance, Imperialism, and Nationalism. In my opinion, the two major causes would be Alliance and Nationalism. Alliance is an association between two or more countries for mutual benefits that formed with different treaties, while
As soldiers went away to war, waving at their family and friends goodbye hoping to see them on Christmas Day, instead were blown across a field, torso and head 50 feet apart. World War One, or the “War to End all Wars”, started when a Serbian terrorist assassinated ArchDuke of Austria Hungary, Franz Ferdinand, on June 28, 1914, which led to disputes and chain reactions of declarations of war between countries. Although this event was said to light the fuse, the big wires that were attached to the bomb consisted of alliances, militarism, and imperialism.
On June 28, Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, were riding through Sarajevo in an open car when suddenly, a young terrorist by the name of Gavrilo Princip stepped from the curb and took aim at the couple with a pistol. Just like that, the heir to the throne and his wife were
There were many underlying causes that could have been used to lead up to World War I. World War I had many turning points throughout the war. The war took over a huge piece of land and water for each country involved in the war. There were four main causes that have been believed to be the cause of World War I.
A Serbian nationalist terrorist group, the Black Hand, assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand which in turn triggered a turn of events, starting the first World War.
There was a lot of reasons World War 1 commenced imperialism, assassination, nationalism, alliances, and militarism are a few of WW1’s causes. On June 28th, 1914 archduke of Austria-Hungary and his wife were on their way home from an event when their driver took a wrong turn and Blackhand member Gavrilo Princip just happened to be in the alleyway where they stopped to turn around. Gavrilo Princip quickly pulled out his gun and shot both Archduke and his wife. This Assassination caused Serbia and Austria-Hungary to declare war which lead to WW1. Militarism is the belief or desire of a government of people that I country should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or promote national interests. Militarism denoted a rise in military expenditure, an increase in military and naval forces, more influence of the military men upon the policies of the civilian government, and a preference for force as a solution to problems. This caused the war because it built up nations armies and when you have a huge army that's good you use it. Imperialism is a policy of extending another country‘s power and influence through colonization, and use of military force to create empires they exploited weaker countries. This policy of one nation dominating other countries or regions caused the war because countries wanted to be huge empires like Great Britain. There were many causes of World War 1 but the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand,
The assassination of Franz Ferdinand on the 28th June, 1914, precipitated WW1. He was shot by Gavrilo Princip, a member of the Black Hand, a Serbian group set up to fight for the unification of all South Slav territories that had been annexed by Austria-Hungary. Two months after the shooting Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, setting off the next chain of events that brought
The Serbian nationalists were the main cause of Franz Ferdinand’s assassination and aided in the start of World War I. After the Austria-Hungary Empire annexed Bosnia-Herzegovina, the country of Serbia encouraged Serbians living there to rebel “against Austria-Hungarian rule in frequent protests and civil disturbances” (Pendergast 16). The Serbians began to fight for independence against rule of Austria-Hungary which led to the assassination of the Archduke of the Austria-Hungary Empire, Franz Ferdinand. The Black Hand was the terrorist group that murdered Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie. Not only was it “led by Colonel Dragutin Dimitrijevic, the head of Serbian military intelligence” but Austria’s Serbian ambassador is said to have known about the assassination beforehand (Pendergast 21). Serbian’s were sick of being ruled in an empire, so “militant groups like the Black Hand, wanted to untie the Slavic people in an independent pan-Slavic state” (Pendergast 45). They were determined to put all the Slavic people together as a separate nationality and destroyed people who got in their way, including Franz Ferdinand, the Archduke of the Austria-Hungary Empire. With Franz Ferdinand being the heir to the Austria-Hungarian throne, the Austria-Hungarian Empire began to call for a war against the Serbians but needed allies in order to have a chance of winning.
Franz Ferdinand can be said to be the reason that WWI happened. An archduke, he was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian empire. Ferdinand, with his wife, decided to make an inspection of troops in the capital of Bosnia. While there, a Sebrian terrorist group of seven, The Black Hand, was going to try to assassinate him. The first two assassins were unable to kill him, but the third was able to throw a grenade that landed under the car in which they were traveling in. Although it did not injure him or his wife, Sophie, it did harm some of his attendants. After this point, no one knows for sure what happens. Some say he went
World War 1 (better known as The Great War), was caused by a great many elements, some long-term, some short-term and the spark. Together these reasons created a brutal war involving many countries across the globe and also killing a vast number of the world’s population. In this essay, I will thoroughly explain what started this war and which reasons made it start sooner.
