What Websites Do To Be Persuasive ATI, a physical therapist website uses effective rhetoric devices such as ethos, logos, pathos and visual attraction to persuade an audience to choose their clinic. Rhetoric can be found in different places and in many mediums, some may take the form of an essay, video, or picture, others may be a bit more complicated, such as a website. A website would be complicated due to the fact that it may contain several mediums within it. The artifact chosen for this assignment includes several different mediums such as pictures, videos, blogs, and much more. This website goes as far as including an advertisement of an app they created for the patients so that they have easy accessibility. The website also …show more content…
A medium would not be effective if rhetoric isn't used correctly through out it. The physical therapy website uses all the Rhetoric devices, logos, pathos, and ethos, in a way to get potential patients to consider their program. The website uses logos (the logic of a thought) to persuade the audience by giving them resources such as ‘Why Choose ATI’ (main page). For example, in the video they created, the employees being interviewed say that they make sure the patient gets everything out of the sessions and that many, if not all are satisfied after the sessions (youtu.be/V-ngXhM94zA). The website also uses Ethos ( the character and credibility) to persuade the targeted audience and this is used in the medium by the blog section. In the blog section one will find many articles written by employees and their experiences that they have written down which is credible because the employees are sharing out information (that is credible) to their patients. This website also uses the last rhetoric device, pathos, which I find to be the most persuasive. They use pathos by having a ‘Patients Stories’ tab for access to the audience. This is persuasive because once it comes to human interaction and feeling it becomes more real to many people. Hearing a story about the healing process and then the success is very powerful due to the fact that it is a real
The website my group choose to do our rhetorical analysis on is CNN. CNN stands for Cable News Network. CNN was founded by Ted Turner and 25 other members in 1980. CNN was originally a tv channel. CNN lasted from 1980-2003 on tv. In 9995 CNN was made into a website. The website attracted growing interest and is now one of the most popular news websites in the world. The widespread growth of blogs, social media and user-generated content have influenced the site. The website CNN helped us find the observations “(what)”, examples “(how)”, analysis “(why)” to rhetorical concepts. We figured out how to use the concepts and how not to use the concepts. The rhetorical concepts are audience, purpose, Ethos, Logos, and Pathos.
Rhetoric is an act of persuasion. Aristotle believes that the most persuasive technique is the truth. He taught others that rhetoric is to be used for persuasion and not manipulation and that it is to be done ethically. When using rhetoric for persuasion, it is important to recognize the rhetorical triangle. The rhetorical triangle includes the speaker, the subject, and the person being addressed. This triangle also demonstrates the three modes of persuasion, logos, ethos, and pathos. The author must embody all parts of the triangle. The speaker must exhibit ethos through their credibility. The subject must encompass logos by making logical sense. The appeal to the audience must use pathos to be persuasive. When these three parts come together, a persuasive speech can be delivered. Of the three sections of the rhetorical triangle, the audience is the most important. I will demonstrate my argument of the role of audience in the rhetorical triangle throughout the essay.
The four texts that I have read seem to all use a variety of rhetorical appeals. After analyzing them, I noticed each had a speaker, an occasion, an audience, a purpose and a subject. Not only did they use “SOAPS” but they also used ethos, logos, and pathos to strengthen their speeches and to really connect with the audience. They proved that they’re credible, then they used sources and quotations and eventually they hit the audience with emotions.
The use of rhetoric is important, especially depending on your audience. Rhetorical devices are known for being used by Aristotle in 384 BC and even in today’s era where it is used by political leaders, spokesmen, etc. In a document written by Benjamin Franklin “Benjamin Franklin: Remarks concerning the Savages of North America” and in Red Jacket’s speech “Red Jacket Defends Native American Religion, 1805.” Ethos, logos, and pathos, along with other rhetorical devices are used by both Red Jacket and Benjamin Franklin, which is very important and can help with informing people, and even persuading them into side with a person during their speech.
The first chapter introduced the reader to the art of rhetoric. He describes how rhetoric works through real life examples. He demonstrates ways that rhetoric persuades us like, argument from strength, and seduction. He tells the reader that the sole purpose of arguing is to persuade the audience. He showed that the chief purpose of arguing is to also achieve consensus, a shared faith in a choice.
The multimodal text our group chose was a Pop Tart box. The box color is a deep blue that catches anyone's attention. The combinations of pictures and text make it a great example of rhetoric. Their main audience is people who are grocery shopping. The Pop Tart company is trying to entice people to buy their product. They clearly used several examples of ethos, pathos, and logos.
I feel the usage of pathos is the most powerful in persuading others to do something to change their minds. When one decides to change someone’s perspective on a certain topic, they must decide their audience. For example, a pastor wouldn’t want to persuade his followers that their religion is false and inaccurate. The pastor would want to persuade the non-believers that whichever religion they follow isn’t correct, and try to guide them to his/hers faith. Pathos is one of the world’s leading tactics used this day and can be seen in remotely any area. Humane societies use pathos on their heart-jerking commercials. Food banks use pathos on persuading common folk to give a dollar to feed starving children. Even more commonly, parents use pathos
Whether it is by using the written word, a speech, or any other medium, in order to convey a message to an audience, one must have an effective way of communicating one's ideas. The Greek philosopher Aristotle believed that effective speakers use three kinds of appeals to make their arguments convincing; ethos, the credibility of the speaker, logos, the speaker's actual message, and pathos, or the emotional appeal the speaker arises in its audience. These rhetorical appeals are present in many aspects of everyday life, including in websites. Websites such as the El Paso Zoological Society use these three appeals to effectively communicate with those who visit their page.
The Loving Life Therapy web site uses many rhetorical devices to exhibit their mission and services. The web site is able to utilize rhetorical devices such as logos, pathos, and ethos to appeal to visitors who visit their web site. In addition, Loving Life Therapy uses different pictures to make the web site look peaceful and relaxing to make the visitor feel comfortable. Which then it would reach their goal to get the visitor to book an appointment at their location. In this analysis I will further discuss how Loving Life Therapy uses logos, pathos, and ethos to speak to an audience through rhetoric.
Rhetoric is the idea of persuasion. Its basic idea is to influence someone to believe in our idea or help understand the message we are trying to deliver. In our daily life we use rhetoric in many places. This includes verbal communication as well as non-verbal communication such as body language and facial expression. In the workplace it can be used to communicate with people effectively.
After their success in their first video, Haida Raid 2, the song writers and producers came together once again to produce a second segment. In their first video they showcased their views on the pipeline and oil dilemma as well as trying to reach the audience of the general public, they did so through rhetoric. Rhetoric is a technique used by most authors to assist them in persuading their specific audience. According to the Oxford English dictionary rhetoric can be defined as “the art of using language effectively so as to persuade or influence others “(Rhetoric, n. d). With this definition in mind, and “others” as the specific audience, this document will provide an analysis of how rhetoric was used to persuade the audience by the author,
Modes of persuasion are rhetorical appeals used in writing to persuade an audience (Worthington 58). The rhetoric appeals are divided into three categories; ethos, pathos and logos. Writers and speakers alike must have the ability to use the three appeals within a text to persuade a particular audience. Ethos refers to the author’s or writer’s credibility. The writer or the author has to establish his or her credibility for the audience to consider his or her views. Pathos is appealing through the audience’s emotions. As an author or speaker, it is important to create a certain sense of curiosity and imagination in the audience’s minds in order to have them identify with the speech’s or text sentiments. Logos is the most important of the three
Using a website as my multimodal presentation medium, suited the topic of my argument, social media. Since the website connected to the internet I was also able to connect to social media platforms. It made it difficult, however, to present my argument because of space and design limitations. The website's design and space forced me to present my argument in a different way. I developed my argument orally, using the web pages to present real world example of each type of individual social media use that I discussed, from private to public and personal to professional. The introduction was easy enough to place on a home page, but because of the way my argumentative was designed in my essay, with each piece connecting several other ideas of my
Multimodal allows communication through several different mediums this allows websites to blend videos, social media, and photos to convey their message to a directed audience. Multimodal is essential in today’s society, especially in activism. Throughout this paper I will be analyzing how multimodal activist website uses rhetorical situations and design choice to cater to the demands of their targeted audience.
Persuasion is a part of our everyday lives. Whether we are persuading our mother, using persuasion through speech, or threw advertisements, we are using rhetoric strategies to get the response we desire. With the help of minor details in many advertisements, Ethos, Logos, and Pathos are a way of persuading the audience to buy or think a certain way. A Colgate toothbrush commercial used Logos, Pathos and Ethos to spread the word that they have the best toothbrush of all, in which they target everyone who has teeth. Through the use of advertisements, Colgate has convinced the world that they have the best toothbrushes, they’re even recommended by dentists.
