While she was fortunate to be stationed further away than her mother from the dreaded Sphere it’s signal still hammered away at her sanity nonetheless. This combined with the loud organ like dirge that was played within her chamber every so often was scratching at her mind and drowning out her screams. All she could think of is why? Why must she, a lowly person be put through such torture? She pounded on the wall and screamed at the top of her lungs, but eventually after her anger was unleashed she felt that it was futile and started to bite her tongue while tearing up. …show more content…
All Amanda could remember since then was the incident before her incarceration. Her mother Sarah was merely trying to acquire food to feed the both her daughter and herself in the Hive City they lived in, while living in poverty and dealing in adversity on a daily bases was disheartening, it was something Amanda would like want to return back to in a heartbeat compared to her current situation. She could faintly recall what had transpired, her mother was begging for food from a local baker who Amanda could tell was getting rather annoyed by her mother’s groveling as it was disrupting his business. The man summoned the local planetary authorities to drag both Sarah and herself out of the store. However that is where fate took it's turn for the worst. Amanda could envision it very vaguely in her mind, she could see clouded images of her mother unleashing her own psychic powers on the planetary police force. That was the moment where their secret was revealed. Both her mother and herself have been hiding their accursed abilities all their lives living underground fearing the Imperium, and now her worst fears have come to

The last characters who affect Maniac are Piper and Russell.

Amanda Lindhout and Sara Corbett use a series of techniques throughout Amanda’s memoir to help develop the theme. One of the most frequent techniques used were anecdotes. These short passages would often describe a way for Amanda to escape her daily life in captivity. Lindhout also uses allusions to also help escape her captivity. Lastly, Amanda uses patterns of imagery to help the reader feel as though they are sitting in the room with her. Anecdotes, allusions, and imagery help develop the theme; when in dangerous situations, one may have to make difficult decisions in order to
Don't you think I know it? I'm so proud! Happy and - I feel I've - so much to be thankful for" (p. 414).?Amanda has two fears in her life.?One of her worst fears is having Tom grow up to be his father. "Promise, son, you'll - never be a drunkard!" (p. 414).?"When I see you taking after his ways! Staying out late - and - well, you had been drinking the night you were in that - terrifying condition" (p. 415).?Amanda's other fear in life is having Laura grow old without a gentleman caller.?"We have to be making plans and provisions for her. She just drifts along doing nothing. It frightens me terribly how she just drifts along" (p. 416).?Tom suggested to Amanda that Laura just might be what people call home girls but Amanda refuses to believe it.?"There's no such type, and if there is, it's a pity! That is unless the home is hers, with a husband" (p. 416).?Therefore, Amanda sees the fire escape as a way to escape her own problems and invite gentlemen callers into their lives for Laura.?
When it was over, she waited for him to say something. He took his time before allowing her to get away from that stupid wall and she sat down, her legs protesting as if she had been standing all
Even when the reader is shown only small glimpses of Amanda’s personality, he or she should still be able to flesh out her motives through this initial knowledge of her natural state of mind.

I thought that the puppy would be a good idea as a picture because it is kind hearted like Amanda. The puppy was a good idea as a picture because Amanda looked out for Maniac and some dogs are watched dogs, that is a reason that the dog was a good picture. Another reason the dog was a good idea is that it was loving like Amanda. The next reason is when Amanda give up her room for Maniac that showed she was kind-hearted. The 4th reason is Amanda give her book to a stranger and trusted him, that shows that Amanda was kind-hearted to him they became friends. Another idea to show that Amanda was kind-hearted is when she tried to make him stay and not leave to go somewhere else. Amanda knew that she would get her room back if Maniac left but she
In this quote, it is illuminated yet again that Amanda is living in a fantasy world of perfection. Despite the clear markers set forth for her by Laura, Amanda chooses to deny their existence so her fragile world (almost like glass…) can remain unscathed through adversity.
Amanda’s strong and outgoing personality has made Laura become submissive painfully shy and self-conscious. She never let Laura make her own decisions. So, to retreat from the real world, she resorted to playing her victrolla and admires her glass menagerie collection.
