A greenish looking fresh Day 1 pitch. Pink ball. Overcast conditions with occasional rain and a lot of moisture in the air. If I was a new ball bowler, I would have been licking my lips. Well, I am sure James Anderson and Stuart Broad, who have 899 Test scalps between them, too thought on the same lines when Joe Root won the toss and decided to field in the inaugural day-night Ashes Test in Adelaide on Saturday afternoon. Traditionally in Adelaide, spinners come into play in the fourth innings. Thus, it is always being considered as a ‘bat first’ wicket. From that point of view, Root’s decision was a bit of gamble. But, considering the quality and experience of the England seam attack, it was a risk worth taking. Experts like Graeme …show more content…
Their defensive line of attack allowed Bancroft and Warner to play no shot 36 percent of the time, well above the global average of 22 percent. Someone like Jason Gillespie feels initially the lengths of English bowlers were at least “two foot short”. “The lengths were wrong,” Gillespie told cricket.com.au. “They were as much as two foot too short early on. After the rain delay [at the start of the second session] they started to get their lengths right and I thought they were better as they went on. When they didn't get it right, they got punished.” In hindsight, I can’t find a logic behind giving Broad just a three-over opening spell. The pink ball tends to soften sooner than the regular red ball and once it loses the shine, it does not do any trick for the bowlers. So, as captain Root should have provided the maximum opportunities to his two experienced pros – Anderson and Broad – when the ball was new. But, he replaced Broad with Woakes early in the day – a decision, which raised quite a few eyebrows. Also, in the first session, it seemed England were more worried about not conceding runs than attack the Aussie batting with whatever they have. Strange! **** Thankfully for England rain curtailed the session and probably the damage. A longer break allowed them a chance to regroup and reformulate the plans and things did improve later in the evening, under lights. In the post-tea session, all three seamers who bowled in the first session — Broad, Anderson

Cricket was a very fair and fun sport until a little rivalry came along to create problems. This rivalry was created when the Quadrangular tournament began and after India was split into two subcontinents, India and Pakistan. “Even the sacred field of sport they would not leave unmolested. That is why things have become what they are on the cricket field today. That is why Quadrangular cricket has degenerated into religious rivalry” (Doc 7).
Centenary got back one, but the Crusaders put the game away with five in the sixth. The Ladies committed three errors which led to three unearned runs for Dallas.

After having gained all the materials needed and having the proper instruction, you can now begin learning to throw different pitches. However, you must first know what each pitch does, what the pitch is used to do, and how the pitch is most effective for you. The three main pitches are the fastball, change-up, and curveball. To start, the fastball is a pitch that has the most speed out of any other pitch. While the pitch is called a fastball, there are two different types of fastballs: the two-seam and the four-seam. The two-seam fastball is relatively similar to the four-seam, however the two-seam will move into a right handed batter and away from a left handed batter. The fastball is used to get a strike on the batter, set the batter nup for an offspeed pitch, and often, it is used after an offspeed pitch to disrupt the hitter’s timing. Now, the curveball is often the pitch with the lowest velocity. A curveball also has the most movement among all pitches.
The day started out with some introductions and then went right into fielding drills. The players paired up and warmed their arms with some long-toss catch.
Game two started off promising for the Ladies when Sexton led off the game with a double and scored on a pair of sacrifices, but that was it for the Centenary offense – which managed only three hits in the game.
People often came to the Engelettes stadium to see Mitchell pitch and were amazed by the speed and control of her pitchers. Only one scouting report describes it, “She uses an odd, side-armed delivery, and puts both speed and curve on the ball. Her greatest asset, however, is control. She can place the ball where she pleases, and her knack at guessing the weakness of a batter is uncanny.”(March 31, 1931, page 7). This caught the attention of Joe Engel, a man known for being a showman. (Gargolia, 70). He thought a

That error did not cost them however, as Walker scored a try just three minutes later after winning the race to a long-range kick and simply planting the ball down.
Mounties led 10-6 after 25 minutes and had been the dominant side, but they would concede 16 points before they would next touch the ball.
The Kennedy and Martin combination was working wonders, and they linked up again for another try soon afterwards. Kennedy drifted right, and threw a brilliant cut-out ball to Martin to finished in the right corner to extend Mounties lead to 26-10.
The rest of the first half was incredibly poor for the Magpies, who were flat in defence and struggled to make any impact with the ball in hand.
The Indians weren’t going to make things easy, though, taking an early lead in the top of the second on a Jose Ramirez solo shot off
