I chose to read the book It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini. I’m at the midpoint of the book and so far I have mixed feelings about the plot. I already have thought about the characters I like and dislike. My favorite character, hands down, is Craig because I can relate to his personality the most. If you know me, you know that I’m a very awkward person and can sometimes get very anxious and stressed about things that are not worth working myself up about. Although I relate to Craig very closely, I have contradictory feelings towards other characters. For example, some I have very strong emotions for, while others I find displeasing. For example, I do not like the judgemental quality that Craig’s little sister has, but I do support how she cares for her brother even if …show more content…
Sometimes, I do not even know why I get stressed! I get confused because I can be happy for a long period of time and then in a flash I get sad. I can also relate to Noelle because she likes to hide her feelings (she also has the same music taste as me!). This book reminds me of The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. This book reminds me of another drama filled young-adult novel, not only by the style of writing, but the plot. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is about a teenager who entered a new school after being “bad” for a long time. This relates to It’s Kind of a Funny Story because it is yet another book about a stressed out teenager who entered his first year in a competitive high school. I think Craig will start to get better. While that is a very broad statement - I think it’s 100% true. Craig will have his revival moment. I also think Craig and Noelle will begin to have feelings for eachother just by the way they communicate with each other (sending notes). I believe that although Craig and Noelle came to the mental-health clinic for different reasons, they still have a lot in
Although some people may think this book overexaggerates the stress in a teen’s life, , the author just tries to show the perspective of one teen’s life. The book shows that everyone has their own story and every teen experiences different things, rather good or bad. The book educates readers on teenagers and what some may experience, as well as provides solutions for the hectic lives teenagers may face. Whether a teen uses poetry, like Gabi, to challenge emotions or other activities, teenagers can all relate to each other with the stressful, hormonal life they all

Have you ever read a book with so much irony that it knocks your socks off? Irony takes place in all these stories we are talking about. The Merriam-Webster definition of irony is “the use of words to express something other than, and especially the opposite, of the literal meaning.” These stories will keep you wondering what’s going to happen and when you least expect it, irony will come out of no where and surprise the reader. In the short stories, “The Veldt,” “Just Lather, That’s All,” and “The Ransom of Red Chief,” Irony is active throughout the whole story.

Everyday Craig Gilner studied laboriously to get into the high school of his dreams. When he finally does get into Manhattan’s Executive Pre-Professional High School the pressure becomes unbearable. He feels inadequate to his overachieving peers, academically and socially. The stress then evolves into an eating disorder, poor sleep habits, drug use, depression and suicidal thoughts.
From the moment I picked up the book It’s Kind of a Funny Story, the straight-forward, relatable voice of Ned Vizzini, the author, caught my attention and made me want to read on. With the simple language of a teenager and imagery so descriptive that made me feel like I was there in Craig’s depressed brain, experiencing the ups-and-downs of his life, some parts began to sound strangely familiar. Like Craig, I feel as if everyone else around me is so much smarter, talented, and better at life than me, but unlike Craig, I do not feel it to the point where it is depressing me so much that I want to kill myself.
Anything to do with the word “adolescence” sucks. For 15-year-old Craig Gilner this is an inalienable truth. To him, it opens the floodgates of navigating friendships, rejection, and self doubt. Craig is the protagonist of It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini. It’s Kind of a Funny Story takes place in Manhattan, New York and is a memoir which recounts the events of Vizzini’s emotional decline under the guise of the protagonist.
The novel “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” by Ned Vizzini says a lot about adolescent mental illness and how teenagers cope with stress. The main character, Craig Gilner, is a freshman in the Executive Pre-Professional High School, the most prestigious school in his area. He studied for weeks to pass the test to get in, but once he succeeded he felt overwhelmed by school work and anxiety until he stopped eating, started doing drugs, and eventually admitted himself into a mental health ward for suicidal thoughts. Of course, I’ve never experienced that kind of severe depression or been in a mental ward, but I could easily relate to Craig as a teenager with my fair share of school-related stress. Craig shared a lot of qualities with me, like his ambition, social life, and many aspects of his personality.
I am reading It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini and I am on page 140. This book is about Craig Gilner who suicidal. In this journal I will be questioning and
The book, It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini features a teen boy named Craig, who suffers from depression. Craig goes to regular therapy lessons in an attempt to ‘cure’ his sadness and intense amount of stress. Vizzini describes this stress admirably by showing Craig’s thought process. This quote stood out because of the way Craig describes his stresses as a made up term, Tentacles. Vizzini allows the reader to see how Craig’s anxiety can affect his decisions, and how much thought goes into each and every choice he makes. This reveals a significant part to Craig’s character. Vizzini writes, “[...] which meant I’d get depressed, and that was the big one because I knew what that did to me: it made it so I wouldn’t get out of bed, which
Over 350 million people suffer from depression worldwide. It’s Kind of a Funny Story, written by Ned Vizzini, is a realistic fiction novel about a high schooler named Craig Gilner who struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts. This story was a great read and for multiple reasons. Vizzini does a great job of making Craig, the protagonist, a very interesting character, and the novel itself is very relatable to anyone who is/was a student. Craig has many intriguing qualities that are hard to ignore.

I remember one incredibly funny day from last year. It was the day I fell through the glass display case at school. Boy, I tell you that sucked so bad. I know for a fact I’ll never live it down. I’m known for being pretty accident prone so it was no surprise to people when they found out I was the one who had left the blood stain in the hallway.
