When somebody gets killed in the street for not following the order of a policeman or woman they deserve what they get. Sometimes killing people on street is to far. If they are surrendering to an officer the officer should not jump on the innocent victim. No matter how harsh the officer is to the victim you should always stand up and salute the flag for our troops that are overseas risking their lives so we do not have to. It does not matter if you are making millions of dollars in the National Football League, you should still have to stand for your country and if you do not like what we are doing you can always leave. All pro athletes should stand and not kneel during the National Anthem. During the Kaepernick’s protest many athletes from different football teams are starting to sit and some raised there fist during the …show more content…
To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.” (Zirin 44-45). I understand where he coming from in this quote. You can not ignore bodies lying in the street dead. Cops can not have the right to do whatever they want. Just because they are a cop does not give them the right to shoot someone and say that they were charging at him and decided to shoot him dead. If anything they should have tazed him instead of killing him. You can not ignore when someone is being choked to death in the hands of another person. Colin has a freedom of speech just like everyone else in world and he made his presence known. I do not think that he should have been suspended for what he did, he was supporting something that he believed in and many NFL players followed the support of Kaepernick and they did not get suspended for kneeling down or raising their fist during the National
The freedom of speech states “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers." (Freedom of Speech, (n.d.). Kaepernick was not interfering with anyone’s life, inflicting pain or committing a crime towards someone else, this is important to keep in mind since he faces large consequences such as being kicked off the San Francisco 49ers. For the football player being hated amongst and suffering consequences, it means that his freedom of speech is being restricted. But the citizens of the U.S are also using their freedom of speech to showcase their opinions on the issue even though others may not agree. Which is very
I also believe that he wanted justice for those innocent people who got killed. According to my source from the website “Business Insider”, some military or veterans support Colin Kaepernick’s decision and beliefs, that he’s doing the right thing. This is where many people would probably object that Colin Kaepernick influenced the people to do the same thing, on kneeling down during football games and other sports. Social media would certainly have an issue with the argument, that he was disrespecting the American Flag. Social media, of course, may want to question whether Colin Kaepernick should leave this country or abide to it. As stated in the article, “Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for president campaigning on a slogan implying America has ceased to be great and who broadsides against “political correctness” delight his fans, urged Kaepernick to leave the country for expressing the incorrect political views”. Why? Even though, everybody has a right to their own opinion. I respect Donald trump’s opinion but to say someone should leave the country because they are voicing their own opinion just doesn’t seem right to me. This is what America is known for, “freedom.” We have the freedom of speech and the freedom to do what we think is right. You can’t just tell a person to leave this country just because of his incorrect political views. We will always fight for the right to
Colin Kaepernick has been in the headlines for the past few weeks due to his protests in response to conflict between the African American community and the police force. Many disagree and prosecute Colin for his actions while others encourage and stand behind him and I’m happy to say I’m in the latter.
I didn’t have to read this article to form an opinion on this topic. Being that this topic is not new, I have already developed a strong and distinct point of view. Colin Kaepernick, who is a black, former, American football player, is one of many participating in the Black Lives Matter movement as of today. I for one commend him for his displays of courage and activism throughout the 2016 football season. But he could have chosen a different way to protest.
Colin Kaepernick has the right to not stand for the anthem. Kaepernick had the audacity to not stand for the anthem! He has the right to not stand for the national anthem. Even though he has the right to sit for the anthem, because of free speech given to him in the constitution. Also, the National Football League (NFL) has no rule preventing the players from sitting for the national anthem. Even though, he has the right, to do what he did, it was tremendously disrespectful to the military and other people
While most have considered Colin Kaepernick's actions as the lack of patriotism and respect for America, others have considered this as the greatest sign of sports activism. It is also an opportunity for people to open their eyes to the issues affecting minority groups in the U.S. it is evident through his interviews that his actions are intended for sports activism and representing people the way its supposed to be done. Colin Kaepernick has received support from a wide range of players in his stand for protesting the National Anthem. From September 1st, other players such as Jeremy Lane, Megan Rapinoe, Brandon Marshall, and teams such as Dolphins, Chiefs, Patriots, and Seahawks also led this type of protest during the National Anthem . These kind of patriotic actions have been criticized by many as the lack of patriotism to the American National Anthem and flag but on a closer look, Colin Kaepernick's actions have initiated a national awareness of the critical discrimination issues in America. Such actions therefore publicly represent discriminated minorities in the U.S who would otherwise go unnoticed if it was not for such patriotic activism by Colin
On September 21st, Christine Brennan reported Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand while the national anthem was being played in National Public Radio’s (NPR) online portal (www.npr.org). All through the National Football League 's preseason matches, Colin Kaepernick, a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, refused to stand for the national anthem. He clarified that he took this stance to point out what he sees as wrongdoings against African-Americans and different minorities, especially with regards to certain atrocities in police activities. Kaepernick has stated he is showing support for the Black Lives Matter movement, which was sparked by a number of police killing innocent black people. When addressed by journalists after the first occasion when he did not stand for the national anthem, Kaepernick stated that, “he would not show respect or pride in a flag for a country that continues to oppress African Americans and people of color.” He added that this was much bigger than any game and that it would be selfish on his part to look away. He also claims that there were bodies lying on the streets and people were getting away with murder. I don’t think Brennan understands why he chose not to stand fully. I think this also could have led to more attacks from other writers and reporters that have been inform of his true reasoning. I do not think he was disrespecting the flag or people that fight for it, but just making a stance to get
I was terribly disappointed when I witnessed the act of Colin Kaepernick kneeling for the National Anthem at the 49er’s first preseason game. He is protesting to show support for people of opposite ethnicities that are being oppressed in the United States. He is trying to bring attention to the police killings. A similar protest about being oppressed and the police brutalities is Black Lives Matters (BLM). They are taking the protest to a more violent level. Such as destroying police cars, motorcycles, beating people, burning the American flag, and so on. I understand the purpose behind the protests, but there are other ways to get their point across without disrespecting the country and everything it stands for. Not only are they disrespecting
Kaepernick was joined in protest by his teammate Eric Reid. Likewise, players from other teams joined in protest.
In 2017 controversy struck when the NFL tried “taking a stance” and protesting the National Anthem. In this protest, many NFL players one by one knelt down while the National Anthem played at their sporting event. The National Anthem is a song for our country and symbol to represent all of the men and women who have fought in our military. This song is not played just for our entertainment, it is to honor the flag and what it stands for. The protesting was started by Colin Kaepernick, last season, when he was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. He was the first player to take a knee during the playing of the National Anthem, now many other NFL players this season are following in his path and doing the same thing. Many players and viewers claim it is for police brutality and the injustice that is being served, while other viewers see it as entitled millionaires disrespecting the flag and the military. Everyone has different opinions on the issue, but no matter what the country needs to respect one another as humans and be united; the American Flag is a symbol of our freedom and the NFL needs to recognize the National Anthem rather than kneeling and disrespecting what it stands for.
So with all the cops killing innocent people “Colin Kaepernick” didn’t stand up during the National Anthem because of all these cops shooting innocent people. He believes that america is not getting better. From all these innocent people dying he thinks that when these killings stop that america will get better and he will stand up during the anthem. He does that because that’s what he believes in.And that’s a good thing. You should always stand up for what you believe in.Like Martin Luther King Jr. He believed that all black people should have all rights. He was
The current debate over kneeling or sitting in protest during the national anthem to protest police brutality was ignited by Kaepernick in 2016, and later adopted by many other professional football players, high school athletes, and professional athletes in other sports, all who have refused to stand for the national anthem. These protests have created disagreement and sparked a public conversation race, police brutality, the flag and if the NFL is the best forum for to protest such issue. Colin Kaepernick has since said “he’s not protesting the flag but police brutality against African Americans. www.Procon.org
Protesting in the National Football League has been going on, as some of the country’s most beloved and highly recognized athletes are seen disrespecting the United States of America on national TV every weekend. The players’ reason for the protesting is police brutality, you can see them kneeling, raising their fist in the air, or even sit in the locker room while the national anthem is being played. Although I do understand what they are trying to do, I believe that there definitely better ways to go about their protest. The protests started in 2016 when Colin Kaepernick, quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, took a knee during the national anthem. When question about his actions he responded by saying, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour”(Lake). While some people sided with Kaepernick most people took offense to his decision to kneel. In him doing this it has caused a league wide outbreak in protest; as players and sometimes even whole teams take a knee or show some type of protest during our country's anthem.
As time goes on, the people of America continue to discover and create more issues that have affect on each person in the country. Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers took a knee during the playing of the “Star Spangled Banner” in protest of police brutality and racial injustice in America. Since then, NFL players from all over the country have joined in on this silent protest.
Today, athletes are kneeling while the national anthem is being played, the reasoning for this is they are protesting against police brutality and social injustice. The protest started when Colin Kaepernick first kneeled during the playing of the national anthem at a football game last year. Since then the nation has been debating whether this is disrespectful to the country or not. Colin Kaepernick never meant to disrespect America; in fact, he said “I love America. I love people. That’s why I’m doing this. I want to help make America better. I think having these conversations helps everybody have a better understanding of where everybody is coming from.” (Kaepernick). Many people will disagree with Kaepernick including soldiers, but a few
